Huge thank you to Katherine for pointing this out to me. Whole video is her idea and without her I'd still be calling them "regency knitted pineapples"...in fact I totally slip up and DO in my conclusion....oops
Your viewers who need a more detailed pattern, several years ago, Franklin Habit did one and posted his pattern in Knitty.com where patterns are free.
yes THANK YOU I meant to link that one and in the haze of trying to finish this on time for Cocovid forgot!
Just what I was about to post! I recall it had an attached article about historical knits in general and he definitely had it as a Victorian thing, not earlier.
OMG! I'm glad Dave's not dead. This was hysterical thank you so much.I don't need it much anymore but it was fun seeing how this is done thanks.
A++ Monty Python reference 😂😂 I'm glad Dave is 'rona free, and for this excellent glimpse into pineapple knitting. (Full disclosure: as one of the featured photos, I've made several! I promise they are easy! If you can knit in the round, yarn over, and centre-double-decrease, you can do it!)
Never would have guessed someone could make a knitted pineapple reticule interesting and fun, but here we are.
Great production value too, what a good looking and sounding video!
So, fun and really interesting too! Huzzah!
"Bring out your dead!" - I laughed so hard XD
great video, wonderfully shot btw.
you are doing the lords work: hard core knit pineapple research. Funny and interesting as always, thanks!
Loved it..."Bring out your Dad" LOL! I now need to work on my sister to knit me one OR find the crochet version :-)
Cute! Interesting historical research too, thanks!
Oh, I’m planning on making one of those reticules! Woohoo!
You guys are hysterical! I'm sad that the tintype video didn't happen because I was really looking forward to it (still am), but this was a delightful surprise!
we both really want to do it so I'm hoping sometime in August to get out there and do it!
Rob is such a good sport~
That said, awesome video! Someday I’ll make my own, I swear... I’ve got the silk and the tiny needles.
Woah I never knew that the US knits differently from the European mainlanders. In Most of Europe the yarn runs through the left hand and the right needle just picks up the yarn and loops in a very swift motion.
What a nice and funny surprise on this CoCoVid Hangover Monday :) Loved this last minute video, very funny, and very informative. Thank you :)
In the US they refer to the style I do as "english" and carrying the thread on the left as "continental" I taught myself from a 1983 "learn to knit" book my mom had so I probably have the worst form, but it gets the job done

It just looks so slow and cumbersome, and also not as obvious how the yarn is supposed to move. With the yarn over my left index finger there really isn’t any other way to pass the yarn through the stitches.
@@ragnkja No argument there! It probably is. I know it's a much slower way to knit. I can knit with the yarn to my life but cannot for the life of me purl...
SewLoud
Put the yarn over your left index finger, pull it across the tip of the left needle so that it’s between you and the knitting, and insert the right needle from the side with the pointy end of the next stitch.
Kudos for the alliteration!
I am DEAD from laughter. Once I picked myself up out of the grave I told my husband "I know what my deepest wish is for birthday." Upon viewing neither pine nor apple he asked, "Where do you get those...Claires?"
Thanks for the vid! I am sooo tempted to learn proper knitting now (I can barely knit smooth surface xD). Just because I want to surprise my husband with Pineapples. Our household never has too many pineapples ;)
You can do it! it's really not that complicated.
Thanks for the giggle! Your little pineapple looks cute.
Oh I’m definitely going to have to make a pineapple - and then a period appropriate costume to match - it’s too cute not to! Do you find they need much blocking or is it better not to block to keep the pointy bits?
I did block the cotton ones I made by shaping them over a water glass but I'm not going to bother blocking the one I'm making now as I don't think it made much difference. I DO think it's important to line it to help it keep it's shape with things in it like a phone or keys.
I am C R Y I N G this is so funny, and also educational! Another great video, you guys.
I loved this! I learned something and I laughed sooo hard I had to subscribe!!
I have to learn how to make one for non-regency events.
Thanks! My husband and I seem incapable to making a serious video 😆 but really do make one they're awesome!
SewLoud Indeed!
Recently moved to No. VA so need to up my Re-enactor accessories!
accessoryqueen1 I’m in NoVA, too!
I'm highly interested in how you made the knitted petticoat? Have you a link, a video on that...? It looks really cool and I'm not that familiar with knitted petticoats! How much wool did it take you?
I wasn't on youtube yet when I made mine, but I did do a blog post about it. sewloud.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/godeys-1864-knitted-under-petticoat/ It's very easy just...monotonous as most is just plain stockinette. I wear it under my petticoats but over my shift and bloomers when it's cold, makes a big difference as it's like wearing a blanket.
Great! Can’t wait to start mine!
Nature’s perfect killing machine is legit as heck.
this makes me want to get my knitting needles out!
very interesting. thanks.
Aaaaaaaahahahhaha 💀. Thank you!
