This film is a love or hate type movie I personally love this film tho. Brad Pitt plays one of the best crazy performances i have ever seen. the contrast between Bruce Willis's character and Pitts and their interactions with each other is the best part of the film.

Controversial opinion here but I much preferred Brad Pitt's performance to Kevin Spacey's that year, I really didn't think there was anything special about Kevin's performance, it was pretty much the same character he is in every movie. Brad on the other hand completely astonished me, I think it's really easy to go ott with a role like that but I think there was a perfect subtlety to his performance. Long ass paragraph sorry guys

This movie trailer is timeless. Quite possibly one of Brad Pitt's best roles as well.

A highly intelligent film - carefully crafted, with a deep understanding of artistic excellence. Deliberately causes you to feel disoriented and somewhat detached, which is a strangely incredible feeling.

Mind blowing artwork. A very intricate story with many rebounds. The progressive ramp up of insanity seen in the main characters aggregated with an atypical love story makes it so delightful. I just love the way Kathryn realizes that James predictions are true when James believes that he's delusional, the way she looks around at the end to find the young James. Pitt's performance is jaw-dropping good. A Movie without ending, now take that. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I hadn't watched this movie since it was originally released on VHS. I would swear I remember seeing a scene after the airport scene that had Cole back in 2036. The scientists were gathered around him and he said, "I couldn't stop the virus. He got away." Then the scientists looked around, confused, and said, "What virus, we were sending you back to stop the war (or something else ominous and apocalyptic like that.)" So, then Cole reacts with both relief then terror.
Did I fuckin' dream that? or is it just a weird skewed memory? I can't seem to find it anywhere as an alternate ending or after credit scene... it's kinda disconcerting, to think I am remembering something that never happened. Especially when it's about THIS movie. With its themes of predestined events and single construct time.
Anyway, if anyone else remembers that scene. PLEASE, let me know. It would set my mind at ease. Thanks.

I love this film. I think its Gilliam's best film to date. I like the twisting plot and the fact that we never quite know where we are. Its based on a short film called La Jetée that explored time-travel in a series of still images that were, literally, frozen in time. This is sort of a Hollywood version of that short film but I like them both equally.

@jonathan45278 I believe duelistic is right. It's not that the bullet is aged, that would tell you the bullet is old, not when specifically used. But in WW1 certain guns, and certain ammo were used, which would allow the doctor removing it to know when it was from. Also, it is just a movie. But I'm the same way, a movie can have a fantastic story and be directed great, but those small, yet obvious to me, flaws annoy me. Although I enjoy noticing things that a majority miss.

The director's notes on this movie also states time can not be altered, but it does so in a way to suggest that it can. The scientists gave Cole the gun so that he'd kill himself and not alter the course of history. That means the scientists tried, and succeeded, in stopping time from changing the course they knew.

I gotta get this off my chest. Bruce Willis goes back in time to WW1 and gets shot in a limb. He then goes forward in time to the pressent and the bullet is extracted from him. Then someone says :"Hey this bullet is seventy years old". Nonsense!! The bullet time travelled with Bruce Willis' character so it did not age, its still relatively new. Dammit! Why am I the only person in the world who can see this!?!

Ugh, the ending wasn't about having a "twist." It was to point out that his life was in a time loop and never found out and mankind would continuingly try to go in the past trying to save the future not knowing that it would always end up with it all being ruined. There was much more to it than just "ahhh he's the kid."
