    Devon is so knowledgeable about armwrestling and knowing what to do at the table. I remember watching him explain how he rushed the catch against Taras ivakin and essentially gave Taras all position and tried to catch him the last inch from the pad he had been able to do prior. You must fight them all the way until that catch even though you know they are going to beat you all the way to it. I felt this exact thing in my first tournament. I tried to conventionally toproll, got flashed. Then I tried to dive into a defensive hook, got flashed. I then posted as hard as possible and fought from center. Lost my cup, that's okay, lost center table, that's fine, lost pronation slightly, trust the process... And I was able to keep my post and catch him right before the pin! From there I was able to out-armwrestle him and go on to win the match. All that from listening to Devon explain allowing yourself to lose certain fundamentals to retain others when you're not the stronger man!

      The man is close to fifty years. There is seriously not more strength for him to develop - if any. With age white or fast twitch muscle fibers turn into red or slow twitch fibers which are for endurance. That is why they say: Sprinters are born, long distance runners are made. That's one thing. The other thing is the nervous system. It is mainly responsible for maximum strength and I doesn't get any better with age either.

    In jiu jitsu there is a saying “position before submission.” Which means you shouldn’t always be working to submit your opponent, especially from weaker positions. I think armwrestling is the same. You can’t pin until you have achieved control or have a position of superior court tell over your opponent, whether hand control, or a hook you pull to your side of the table, then you can proceed to pin. I think I’d guys started to reframe the sport as first gaining superior control then working on pinning, you’d have more success.

      there's different styles. Todd hutchings knows that he will never have the biggest strongest hand so he doesn't care as much about position as he does for sideways strength. It really depends on your physical traits, but pronation, cupping and rising will always be the most important things as they get you the position you need to win.

    Greatest and most genuine interview with Devon till day ! Devon's training model was similar with a type of linear periodisation , just the timeframe of 6 months was small , not enough time under high loads of intensity imao .
    I still remember the story of Taras and the door , that once Devon told us !

    I think Levan was so strong that Devon could do nothing to win. In my mind technique rules if the strength difference is at most 25%. Levon was probably 50% stronger. Hard to beat those odds.

      The only way he could've won is if he bulked more during the prep. He was too small and seemed in denial about being able/needing to put on more mass (during the prep)

    Nothing he coulda done different that woulda made the outcome different or more competitive! Only thing i could think of is not pissing the beast off and making it personal! I get how Devon & especially Travis Bagent will trash talk to throw opponent's off their game but it had the opposite effect of Levan..

  • @jimjimmy3131
    @jimjimmy3131 2 роки тому +2

    I would change things...the last time Devon got a lesson was from Michael Todd , he lost to him but the next time they fought each other it was a complete dominance. Levan is sooooo much fucking stronger than Todd ofcourse the difference is that of earth and sky BUT Devon is a devious and smart AND strong man. I think it would go the same way, Levan would probably win but thus time it would not be so definite.

    I still maintain that Devon should’ve bulked and strengthened up more with compound weight training movements, isolation movements only cannot produce as much strength as compound movements , Look no further than Levan, As he consistently uses weight training compound movements, instead of only using arm wrestling specific isolation movements.

If you wanna get in the ring with the king of arm wrestling face up to it and get close to him in strength. He ways over 400lb and can do set of pullups and sitting curls max 1 rep is 330lbs.

    I lived the first 30 years of my life terribly, yet approaching 40 my life is easy. Devon should not have said "no matter how smart you are". If you're smart enough you do not need to grind all your life. Unless you want to become the best at something, of course. But I understand that's his perspective doing a sport which is very hard to make a living with.

    This was the record for the most times Devon has been interrupted during a single interview. Coach Ray on a different level. (the entire interview) I like to respond and interject in to conversations also. Rather than sit and lose your train of thought while the other person drones on and on, you give feed back in real time to display and confirm that you are getting what they are saying. People say I interrupt, I call it a conversation. Ima take notes. Problem is no one else wants to listen, just want to hear themselves talk.

    Very cool. I see where he is coming from because if he goes all in strength he may lose the first few (even without that injury) but it would be more of a struggle later on and the endurance/mistakes/injury, fouls may kick in. Even then 9 times out of 10 Levan would probably win
