Wow, that was some detour! Looking forward to your Grossglockner episode. I never had the courage to ride it...only crossed it by car and in a nasty hailstorm. Folks shouldn't be ashamed to take their bikes on the train thru the mountain from Mallnitz to Bockstein. From Bockstein, the Gastein valley stretch of EV7 is a nice ride. Just bring some earplugs for for the (deafening) Klammtunnel at the north end of that valley.
The Grossglockner Pass was spectacular! So glad I went that way. I remember seeing that tunnel on my route before I left and hoping it was ridable. I saw a video of another rider who got picked up half way through a tunnel he shouldn't have been in by a guy in a van who worked for the roads department and he got driven through and dropped off at the other end haha May have been in Switzerland.
There was a separate bikeable lane in the Klammtunnel but it is alarmingly loud as trucks roll through. And yes, Grossglockner is spectacular, after the hail and rain blows past. Your whole trip looks like it was an epic ride!
I think it's crazy that the Eurovelo suggests the route over the Hagener Hütte for Touringbikes? It's doable with a Fullsuspension-Mountainbike without panniers, but even then you will need good trailriding-technique and be pushing some parts
I think the line crossing the name of the town indicates the city limit. Eurovelo 7 tells you to go to Mallnitz (1190 m which is the highest point) and then take the train through the tunnel (a 10min ride), from there it's downhill till Bad Gastein. I've done it a few times.
Yes Ferruccio haha I found that later when I googled about the signs. The Eurovelo Website also provides a GPX file that takes you over the pass and me being me, there was no way I was taking a train ! haha
Cracking video Steve👍 I've just come to realise that there are a few things us europeans do different than you lot, which is kind of the point of travelling right? Bizarre route selection on the 7.bet you suffered and loved the grossglockner😊
Yes it was hard to understand why they put that pass on the Eurovelo 7. Guess I shouldn't have been surprised after some of the routes between Rome and Bolonga. But yes the Grossglockner was spectacular mate!
Hi. Nice to be taken along this cycling tour. The video series is very entertaining. Cheers!
Thank you👍
The red line means that you've now left the town. Thanks for the great videos. 🎉
Your welcome, thank you!

Happy for you! Beutiful european adventure you had!
Thank you, it was the highlight of my life so far!

Yes I completely agree. There is also a few rail crossings with stairs which are a nightmare for touring bikes.

IIRC, the lines through the town names are shorthand for “you are now leaving”.
👍

Nice Cob
Thanks Cob!
How’s the Sirrus been? Easy to go up hills? Long hours later is the riding comfortable?
I've found it to be great. I have replaced the back wheel with a better stronger rim though so I don't break anymore spokes.
