    Your split screen on the amateurs swing from flipping to compression makes it obvious to us! Always appreciate your explanation, great video once again! Definitely a real tip to take to the course, right knee in front of the ball before the hands!

    Really helpful for realising that its important to have a hip slide first before firing the hip rotation. I can see a lot of parallels here with Stack and Tilt concepts too, which is what I am following. Many thanks Craig.

    Just a tip for the tip. Feeling my knees stay flexed and working lateral to start the DS made a huge compression difference for me. It also made the swing’s low point more forward & easier to reproduce.

    Excellent lesson as always. And what you are explaining here coincides perfectly with an excellent video put out also 3 weeks ago by Shaun Webb and Mike Granato of AMG, (number 1414) titled Tour Shaft Lean Secret No One is Telling You. Shaft lean and compression are not created by swiping the arms across the body as many amateurs think Instead, the arms come down at the beginning of the swing, just as you show, but once the shaft has reached a bit below parallel, the rest of the move into the ball is created by the 4 to 6 inch shift of the hips toward the target that you and they both show and the rotation of the hips. They demonstrate that if you assume the desired position of the arms, clubhead, hips and knees at impact with shaft lean, and then without moving the arms and hands at all you move back so as subtract the forward shift and hip turn, you will end up exactly in the position with the shaft just below parallel to the ground. So the reality is that the strike with correct shaft lean and compression actually occurs on the trail side. The two videos complement each other perfectly.

    I tried this today. Combined with a shorter backswing and a slower initial downswing I’ve been working on had me hitting the same average distance but with a tighter dispersion. Before this, I was bumping the hip but leaving the knee behind.

    Hello there
    Awesome breakdown of the golf swing, particularly the movement of the down swing. I like your breakdown as there’s more detail that you provide.
    I’ve been putting this into my 68 year old body, and gaining in length of shots hit?, absolutely! Awesome.
    I did notice your advocating or recommending a move down with your head at the beginning of the downswing as the best players do, along with a movement albeit slightly towards the target or flag. However, watching you actually swinging at a golf ball, you do lower your head but not forward.
    I’m not actually sure what I’m doing, but noticing that the best players do as you do, of if anything move their heads back, I’m asking if it is ok to move your head forward slightly or doesn’t it matter? Would moving your head forward narrow your arc somewhat? Thanx

      @CraigHansonGolf  Рік тому

      Hi Thanks
      for posting. I have a little to much lag in my downswing swing. So i tend to move back a little with my head to help get rid of the lag.
      I actually don’t want to move back with my irons. With the driver it’s fine to back up a little.
      I wouldn’t recommend it.

    Some of the recommended movements are similar to what's found in Joe Dante's Four Magical Moves . I'd be interested in knowing your solution for the opposite problem: Too much shaft lean, ball flight too low for irons, loss of carry, problems holding greens that are too firm and cut and rolled too much.

      @@CraigHansonGolf More than you think. Just as there are many golfers who hit the ball higher than they prefer there are a lot of golfers who hit the ball lower than they prefer. Very few probably hit balls on their ideal trajectory. However, it doesn't matter how many there are for you if you never make a video to reach them. There are plenty of good golf instructors who post on youtube that will do videos on a variety of subjects if asked. Based on what i've seen on the youtube videos posted on this channel I've seen nothing to suggest I'd find content worth paying for on the WorldClassGolf website, so I'll hold off on spending money there.

    I think one of the biggest miscommunications in the golf swing is "turning or rotating the hips" in the downswing. It's obvious on video that it's everything from the belly to the knees. But, people hear "start with the hips" and think that means ONLY the hips turn and so they have tension that resists anything else turning. As a result, they get the opposite of what they want. Nothing really clears, their hips and chest are only back to the address position by impact, and they have to extend their arms and flip to hit the ball.
