It was such a pleasure to meet and film with legendary Japanese barber Hideki Kakinouchi! Mr. Kakinouchi is known world wide for his dedication to classic barbering and his refined traditional skills.
He opened the iconic Blue Velvet’s shop over 30 years ago which specializes in classic hairstyles - Pompadours and Ducktails.
The artwork adorning Blue Velvet’s walls immediately captures your attention upon entering the shop. Created by a friend, the hand painted tigers and dragons are pieces of art that add a touch of timeless beauty to the atmosphere.
Over the years, Mr. Kakinouchi has been a successful entrepreneur with several businesses that combined his passion for barbering, fashion, and vintage cars from the 1930s to 1950s.
Mr. Kakinouchi’s latest project has been fulfilling a dream to publish a book celebrating the art of the “Pompadour and The Ducktail” 👉🏼 haircutharry.com/8cv8

This is ASMR at it's finest. Mr. Kakinouchi and his shop is "out of bounds" cool... his barber skills are second to none.
The Ducktail is such a cool hairstyle
This is one of the best wet shaves I've seen.
Mr Hakinouchi style is so cool, his hands move so fast he resembled a magician at times.
Some of the razor angle/position changes around Harry's face we're lightning quick, extremely skilful.
A real master at work.
Shop and haircut are both perfect mix of US and japanese styles !

That was really a time-intensive style when it was in fashion in the 50s, I imagine, for men who wore it. I always thought the flat top with fenders or D.A. was interesting too and must have taken alot of maintenance. Thanks for sharing all your adventures Harry.

The work in Japan is just a different breed! I’ve had my experiences in Tokyo and was nothing short of exceptional. Plus their obsession with Americana culture is awesome!

Well Harry, back to the Tigers Den for this one. Nice close shave and that hair styling too. 👌🏻. I thought there was a bit of a wobble in the camera more than normal but still shot perfectly. Looking forward to the next one.
