Bluegill size in specific bodies of water is hard to figure out sometimes. There's a smaller lake here in Michigan that never had decent sized hills years ago. My buddy texted me last year and said he caught some dandies there. I called BS but went to check it out and to my surprise he was right. Not sure what changed in 20 years but there are plenty of tankers to go around now. Weird
I’m in Michigan too, what changed is the zebra mussels in lakes. Clearer water and more vegetation equals more food and has helped bluegill, not so good for some other species like crappie. Some great crappie lakes I fished in the past have non to few crappies but nice bluegills, used to be opposite. That’s my opinion anyway, only thing I’ve noticed in last twenty years
@@gillgetter3004 what I noticed was the lack of weeds compared to what it had been. They're aren't as many gills now but the quality went through the roof

What do you think makes a good casting/ swim bait rod? I got my crappie maxx rod today, the 6ft ML action.
I understand why you like a crisp stiff tip for twitching. That makes sense.
But I wanted your thoughts on what makes a good or acceptable casting/swimbait rod to you? And why?

Swimbait works better with parabolic action rods. Many reasons.. cast better, fight fish better, tip doesn't overload during the retrieve.. I have many recommendations for swimbait rods, both in budget and in high end segment..

i like the black the most, because they look perfect with the black BG-1 jigs. I avoid green pumpkin because my waters are green and its hard to see..

I read that bluegills get bigger when there is a predator fish in the water. If there is no predator to eat them, they reproduce when they are smaller, younger.
this is TN river.. there is DEFINITELY predator in TN river.. : )

Wanted to let you know that my 6ft. Med lite Maxx Pro rod will be here in a few days. So thank you for that suggestion. I’m looking forward to trying it out. I’m more of a swim jig kind of guy. But I’m looking forward to trying this twitching out.
What reel from your videos would better pair with it.. the Shimano Sahara or the Diawa Legalis LT?
Also got a couple floats to try out. And more jig heads!
Legalis for sure. Sahara FEELS just as good but has 40 extra grams and i dont like that for twitching..

I’m a bank fisherman. So we’ll see how the rod casts. I typically fish the 1.25gr. And normally use a 6.6ft rod. Hey also.. I got some of those 2” swim baits from Berkley. I really like those! And as you say. They do smell organic. lol. Thank you for that suggestion. As I would have overlooked those.

@@12345B Well, its not as light at the Presso AIR AGS XUL, nor as sensitive, but in this price range i don't think u can do better. If the length is not an issue, i wouldrecommend whatever model u can find.

Have you checked out the new 2023 Daiwa Exceller LT? It can be had on sale for 80 dollars or so right now, and doesn’t have the mag seal that you hate. People say it’s a fuego without mag seal. How do you rate this feel? It’s an oz lighter than the Nasci and retails around the same price.
