Our 04 Pathfinder has the VQ35DE and it is very fast for something that's known to haul kids around, didn't know oil consumption was such a big thing on these cars
The VQ35DE engine started in the 2002 Max, the early Vq35 engines were notorious for oil burning due to the piston rings wearing prematurely ... 2001 was the last year for the VQ30DE , which was on the Wards 10 best engines since it's inception in 1995 which Nissan used as a platform for the VQ35. Strong engines nonetheless
Oddly enough I recall seeing the 3.5 first on a Pathfinder and THEN the 5.5 gen Maxima. I'd say 2000 or 2001 Pathfinder. 240hp if I recall the commercials correctly.
hey DNALI kinda late here but i was wondering do you fill up with 91 octane or 89 since being where i live 89 is more widely available im looking into buying a g just haven't found the right one yet.
My variance my first experience with a VQ motor is my 01 Maxima 5th gen with the VQ30DE. Bought her with 231k miles. Put about at least 8000 Miles on her in a single year and still running strong. I've straight pipe, cold air intake, head unit and brand new speakers. She's the greatest first I've ever owned. The VQ motor is a good V6 displacement out of most other v6s that I could think of in my opinion
Jail Corruption you can do that, it won't hurt a thing, especially in summertime. Btw, I've had a 77' 280Z, an 81 280ZX, 2 1985 BMW 635csi's, & now the 2006 G35 SC. Every one of them USED some oil but didn't BURN oil. Best thing is just change it on time, never skimp. VQ' s ROCK, just treat it like you want to keep it forever & don't let lots of small repairs pile up.
My 96 prelude got stollen , been doing some research on these vq motors for about a month I love Honda motors especially the h series but I'm slowly switching to the Nissan family can't go wrong with rwd! Oil consumption isn't nothing new to me lol I'm used to crusing around with at least a quart of mobil in my trunk with the fiber reinforced metal internals my old car had lmao . But you can't be the sound of a high compression vq motor
Love the videos DNALI, looking at picking up a G soon again. Last one totaled. Love how your driving around the Queensway by Canadian tires and bestbuy.
The newer si is pretty quick and keeps up on take off but my vq35hr stock still gaps is. My golf gti vr6 is almost tied with the si but even my stock vr6 stilll pulls on the si the type r is a different story. They are just light and fast as hell especially tuned
Is it a good idea to buy this g35 that has 182xxx miles I don't want this car to break on me when I buy it by the way it's Gona be my first car what y'all think ????
Super Vegito depends on price. service records and abuse. motors are good for 200 plus but work comes with it. check for main jobs that should have been done. a big thing is the a,t transmission services. take it to a dealer and they let u know. oil consumption is another prob to look for and hard to tell unless u own it. front rotors go fst. has a timing chain. so guide and all have to be check
A limit of 400hp on the stock internals of a 3.5L is just not impressive to me. You got S2000s around here running for years with 600whp+ on stock internals out of a 2.0 or 2.2L...smh. Thank god the HRs are a little better.
@@taylon5200 Yeah, it didn't use to be like it is now. They used to be closer in price. s2000's are holding their value because they're a better built car. But hey, things change over time. Nothing wrong with A DE OR HR 350Z. Just depends on your goals. A DE is fine if you plan on staying mild N/A or swapping it out. HR is better if you plan on boosting.
03 maxima 6 speed was a beast, but man it burned major oil. The cheap plastic valve cover gaskets caused lots of issues with oil leaking into the rear ignition coils.
had a 05 g35x sedan with the VQ i had in a Z tube sounded great over 3 grand i just traded for 2014 Q50 3.7 love my new car thing is fast but i do miss my G it just felt raw handled good too i ran KYB all around factory springs on 18inch 07 rims. Your car looks great man.
BTW, I think the 2006 G35sc was the 1st year model that actually "stomped" on BMW's & Mercedes, (check out Road & Track magazines test from 2006). Until then BMW's dominated rallies, (I think, check it out as I said). Either way, the VQ's beat the living crap out of the straight 6 BMW engines, & cost WAAAY less to maintain (or modify). Trust me, I've had my fill of BMW's!
Can't agree with the maxima comment. I have an 03 g35 and I raced my buddies modded maxima and it wasn't even close. Everything else is spot on. Good video
I had a 3.5 vq in my nissan pathfinder (2001) and it drank oil and I eventually blew the head gasket on it while towing. It seemed like an ok motor overall but Terrible motor for an SUV. I bought a g37 after that and its a fun car but it lags at lower RPM's especially when you put the throttle down from coasting at moderate speeds but if you are in the powerband and put your foot down the thing can be scary fast.
Hey bro you not lieing about the VQ35DE im still dustin doors off of bmw's and older Mustangs and 350/370z's in 2004 Nissan Pathfinder LE Platinum ed.R50.
with right mods it's not hard to get 300+hp out of a VQ35DE in a Maxima with right mods. I've seen Dyno videos around UA-cam of 5.5 gen maximas putting down 290+hp at the wheels. headers, 3"exhaust system, larger throttle body, open filter , 4" intake and tune.
All facts. I have the vq35de revup in my Z. Full bolt ons and tune won’t even get you 300whp. However it will noticeably wake the car up. It’s really just a fun car from factory. But if you’re power hungry and hp means everything, then I’d get another platform. Unless you’re ready to spend a ton of money with forced induction.
I hate my 2003 g35 , burns oil, leaks oil overheats on summer if the a.c. is on at stop lights, i have replaced everything in cooling system, from water pump to radiator. And every 2 years i have to replace o² sensors. I miss my older 528i , got it to 300 k miles no issues .:(
Few rubber gasket surfaces--lower pan, timing cover rtv channels, valve clearance adjustment requires lifters replacement and timing chain removal, coolant flowpath issue, (pathfinder mod needed), timing chain tensioner issues, dual mass flywheel excess inertia... none of these issues discussed in your video.
You don't adjust clearances (done with buckets, not lifters). It never needs to be done. Timing chain does not need to be touched unless a guide goes bad (not that common). Coolant mod DOES NOT need to be done unless going for boost. Tensioner is not a big deal. Dual mass is junk, but is used, b/c people are sissies and keeps noise down (like every car). You're gonna have to come up with better excuses. Use quality 40 weight oil and actually check it, it'll last forever. Idiots don't do this and blow em up or cry about severe oil consumption later.
My 2003 Nissan Murano Has The VQ35 Making 250 Horses, The Engines Were Used Up Untill 2007 Which Is When Nissan Changes There Body Style And Updated To The New VQ37 Engine... So To Answer Your Question It Was Introduced In 2003 And It Was Changed In 2007
Stock VQ35 can handle 8 pounds of boost. Anymore than that you are pushing it. I plan on getting a twin turbo kit for mine after I change the sleeves and get the stroker kit for it and change the heads. The stroker kit alone is 5600 and the G Reddy turbo kit is 7000.
The 07-08 G35 Sedans are crazy sleepers. They look like a grandma car but they perform like a muscle car in a straight line and handle way better than any mustang
🤣🤣🤣 funny because I just bought a rwd 08 g35 with 32k miles from a grandma lmao. Garage kept and super clean. Bone stock of course. So this car has years of fun to come and potential for making it look clean and not some ugly ricer
I change my mind i might keep mine put a twin turbo on it and stainless exuast + aluminium pulleyies proberly replace the headlights with more fancy ones and maybe some of the things you done my one is 2005 350gt sedan also might purchase a BMW aswell
It's a perfect engine had one for 8 yrs. Now to the new but what I dislike were the fuckn bushings and mass air flow sensors those I changed often, but the motor was perfect with great maintenance.
I was actually shocked when my buddies stock 370Z ran neck and neck with my stock LS1 Trans Am. But since then, I've done a cam, headers, and intake and picked up 165 hp and he's spent just as much as me and gained almost nothing. That said, I still went and bought a daily driver with a VQ35, in fact, I own two VQ 35 vehicles and am building another JDM VQ 35 in my garage.
Ummm, no. The 3.7 gains 60 whp from bolt ons/tune (now if they go and spend 4k on just exhaust parts, then that's their problem). Nice try pretending your GM garbage doesn't suck.
Anything you could link me to supporting this statement? I've done a lot of looking around to learn as much as I can about this engine for maintenance purposes and the most commonly reported oil leak seems to be one that springs up just below the axle. Apparently it's almost always just a worn cooler seal which is not only a cheap part in itself, but due to its position it also shouldn't cost much in labour if you took it to a mechanic.
they r not at there maximum hp potential look at my altima im 100% sure with a tune i will be putting down more then 300 and thats whp when they rate the power your car has its at the crank big diff i belive the altima stock has like 210-220 the the tires so i made atleast 80 hp on it na
You can split hairs & say ANY engine has problems with SOMETHING! The VQ35 (what I've got) is a STRONG engine. #1 priority; change oil regularly; DONT EVER LET IT RUN HOT! If your temp starts going up, STOP IMMEDIATELY! Better to tow it in & change water pump than to have to rebuild or replace the engine. Do those 2 things along with normal check-ups & your car will run, run, run, & FAST! Also, I know you young boys like your add-ons & expensive mods, but anytime you modify a VQ (or any other engine really, trust me I've done it too) you will likely have problems that may damage your car over time, especially anything to do with catalytic converters, exhaust, or trying to get more HP than the cars designed for. Remember these cars came from factory already tuned & matched to what the engineers knew would be best for long-term use. Change any of the settings by adding on hi-perf components & while it might add lots of extra power, it could also create problems.
Put 235k miles on my 03 coupe. Love it! Strong and reliable. I just keep adding oil.
Lmao yeah just went to the store for chips and salsa for a snack...bought some 5w-30 too...
Tha VQ is a awesome motor . You jus have to maintain your oil . Love my G with that VQ power and sound. VQLIFE
Half a quart between changes....ok more like a quart
The timing chain sucks though
Thats why you get a vq30de-k and you take away 90% of the problems

Our 04 Pathfinder has the VQ35DE and it is very fast for something that's known to haul kids around, didn't know oil consumption was such a big thing on these cars
The vq WAS a good engine until Renault management cheapened it making it a lot less reliable.
TruAgape1234 😂
How?
...its the same engine....lol.
cs292 cheaper components.. cutting corners on cheaper material such as cheaper gaskets and valves
VQ35DE or VQ35HR? I wasn't sure specifically what the discussion was.
The Gs of this gen only got the DE variant, only the 350z got the HR as an option during this time
vq 35de started in the 02 maxima
yeah and the i35. same car pretty much but ye
Dj-Slim Ussery 02 altima also .
Not true at all. Check out the pathfinder.
I was about to say this I have an 02 6 speed max
what did you use to paint your engine bay cover?
hey DNALI kinda late here but i was wondering do you fill up with 91 octane or 89 since being where i live 89 is more widely available im looking into buying a g just haven't found the right one yet.
which exhaust do you have installed?
My variance my first experience with a VQ motor is my 01 Maxima 5th gen with the VQ30DE. Bought her with 231k miles. Put about at least 8000 Miles on her in a single year and still running strong. I've straight pipe, cold air intake, head unit and brand new speakers. She's the greatest first I've ever owned. The VQ motor is a good V6 displacement out of most other v6s that I could think of in my opinion
Love my g, the 03 got motor trend car of the year.
Only problem with VQ35/VQ37 is the oil burning better change that oil often
I own a G35 04 Coupe and I don't have oil consumption problem
I do
My engine blew for not having motor oil and now i regret not taking care of it
@@dukistyles : bad luck
The only way to reduce oil consumption is to change from 5W30 to 10W30 man.
does that work? just simply change over the oil, nothing else?
This guy has no clue what he's talking about. Download the fsm. Real talk.
Wonder why 02 altima. vq35de no one offers ability to tune it. 1990 Taurus SHO made 250hp
VQ35DE came out in 1995 to replace the VQ30DE. Im rebuilding several 4x4 pathfinders got and 01, 02 and 03 all have the 3.5l
5:45 How much hp do you think you gained when you took out your spare tire and rear seat?
Craig Reustle no less than +30hp a momo wheel usually adds +45hp
Love the videos DNALI, looking at picking up a G soon again. Last one totaled. Love how your driving around the Queensway by Canadian tires and bestbuy.
I have a Q50 VQ 3.7 is this the same engine or has change for better or Worst ?
cubicofmusic same thing as g37
J37A4-J35A8? From Acura Tl-S or Rl ? Its SOHC...
Catching this in the fall of 2019 looking for supercharger kit for my 07. It seems like they all stop at 06 even vortech it's the vq35 de automatic
I've had my 16 Altima 3.5 and I've fallen completely in love. Amazing car and engine, vq all day!
The newer si is pretty quick and keeps up on take off but my vq35hr stock still gaps is. My golf gti vr6 is almost tied with the si but even my stock vr6 stilll pulls on the si the type r is a different story. They are just light and fast as hell especially tuned
I love my g35 keep forever
What exhaust?
my 05 VQ35 with some mods are keeping up quite well with today newer overweight cars.
Mine isn't tuned to operate at peak, lol. 2004 Pathfinder 240hp, I know it can get more.
worst car I bought in 2008 was a 2002 altima 3.5 with a four speed automatic for my girl. four speed transmission no bueno.
Higher Then A Drone In The Dome. La transmision es mala o es malo el motor?
All those cars have a big problem with the flywheel and expensive for replace, have to remove the motor with the transmission
What exaust is he running
Are m35's a good car? Would it be worth modding it too race?
Hugo Peña A heavy car, you won’t win too much, go with a G35 or 350z
Is it a good idea to buy this g35 that has 182xxx miles I don't want this car to break on me when I buy it by the way it's Gona be my first car what y'all think ????
Super Vegito depends on price. service records and abuse. motors are good for 200 plus but work comes with it. check for main jobs that should have been done. a big thing is the a,t transmission services. take it to a dealer and they let u know. oil consumption is another prob to look for and hard to tell unless u own it. front rotors go fst. has a timing chain. so guide and all have to be check
p.s with that many miles no service records I will double think it's a flip of coin
A limit of 400hp on the stock internals of a 3.5L is just not impressive to me. You got S2000s around here running for years with 600whp+ on stock internals out of a 2.0 or 2.2L...smh. Thank god the HRs are a little better.
Yeah but look at the entry price point
@@taylon5200 Yeah, it didn't use to be like it is now. They used to be closer in price. s2000's are holding their value because they're a better built car. But hey, things change over time. Nothing wrong with A DE OR HR 350Z. Just depends on your goals. A DE is fine if you plan on staying mild N/A or swapping it out. HR is better if you plan on boosting.
The thing is they were updated. The thing is it was in japan.the 03 and 05 g's were 01 and 02 in japan.
Nope from 2004 & up VQ35DE.
i love the VQ so much but god does it hate me. i'm on my 2nd maxima and 3rd engine and the timing chain is ticking.
Can't agree with the maxima comment. I have an 03 g35 and I raced my buddies modded maxima and it wasn't even close. Everything else is spot on. Good video
daniel powell fm
I ran auto g35 gapped him about a half a car I have an 02 6 speed max I wonder if the 6 speed g35 is a big difference
Derrickvq35d16 the auto trans makes almost an entire extra second to hit 0-60 than the manuals, atleast in the 350zs anyways
What kind of exhaust is that
Jairo Gutierrez 350z resonator and rear muffler delete
DNALI thanks for the response I have a g coupe so I would just do a muffler delete since I have that resonator already
Jairo Gutierrez no prob man. a muffler delete on your car would sound just like this
with right mods it's not hard to get 300+hp out of a VQ35DE in a Maxima with right mods.
Mine is an 07 hr with no cats and I'm killing new gts and rts
2008 & up vq35hr's were 306hp stock!
VQ35de 08 maxima 😎beast sound
Javier Saravia but it ain't a Infiniti
ain't rwd either ahaha
😂
So this car has years of fun to come and potential for making it look clean and not some ugly ricer
queens way?
Ls swap z and g's is where it at. In the process off that now
what about an m45
vq is still amazing engine. 335 had to use turbo just to beat g35hr and 37, but not by much (stock) they were similar.
vq has serious faults especially oil leak issue. that is disastorous. how can this engine be top 10 engine
@@GrimTransmission that is possible.
they r not at there maximum hp potential look at my altima im 100% sure with a tune i will be putting down more then 300 and thats whp when they rate the power your car has its at the crank big diff i belive the altima stock has like 210-220 the the tires so i made atleast 80 hp on it na
Vq35hr aren't bad on the 07 g35 sedan
Change any of the settings by adding on hi-perf components & while it might add lots of extra power, it could also create problems.
..it came out like 2000,2001 with the Nissan Maximas
