    i was born in 1970 and Stonehouse was my hometown but some of this i don't recognise. i lived by the train station.

    This is very well shot (and has even been transferred at the correct speed). The cameraman knows how to hold the camera; to pan and zoom correctly too. Colour cine film wasn't cheap in 1963 and if you had any aptitude you soon learned how to use it properly. Scenery can be boring, but the composition of each scene is almost instinctive.
    Whoever filmed it knew how to compose their shots.
    When it comes to the Waverley footage, the cameraman knew that people like looking at themselves, and could unselfconsciously film those around because they all knew each other. It became as much about the scenery as the people, and the clothes now I suppose too.

    I' m from Larkhall but my Granny lived in Stonehouse. I was so scared to go on that chute. The height of it terrified me. I liked the little boating pond though. My brother married a Stonehouse girl and was married in St Ninian's. Still members there.
