Unfortunately I can. There are a lot of people who don't have the passion and patience it takes to be a teacher in New York, and some only become teachers to work their way up to becoming a principal or some other higher-up, so they never seem to grasp the concept of compassion or the people skills you need when working with students or people in general.
Danielle (keeping the teacher thing in mind) just gives me the "I just wanna be in charge" vibe, using her teacher position to exercise that control over students who can't do anything about it. And I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted a higher position in management, but was permanently stuck as a teacher unable to move up in the field to get the control she wants.

@@DarkroomMedia007 honestly a shame since the education field is so rough that it makes the actual good communicators and would-be teachers out before they can even get their footing in the field, just barely surviving 1-3 years at any given school before jumping to another, or giving up on teaching all together. I am Dominican as well and let me explain because johan isnt able to communicate his ideas. he isnt saying that she needs to obey him, what he wants is for her to stop trying to take command on every little thing. driving the car situation is a good example. why does she want to drive, just so she can feel empowered? i had the same situation with my ex. if I didnt take the road she wanted, it was a big problem. we wll get there anyways. maybe 2 minutes later than we should but who cares. it is about knowing which battles are worth fighting. dont argue with him on the small things. let him be and raise your concerns on the things that matter.

After she told him that he’s the wife last time, I think Yohan spent his time alone trying to figure out how to stop her from constantly emasculating & belittling him, with advice from others I’m sure. A couple of reasons. Some people love the trauma anchor, a self-inflicted hardship or obstacle that weighs them down and keeps them from moving forward to a better situation. They'll get in Trainwreck relationships or situation trying to make themselves a martyr bearing the brunt of the humiliation, torment and negativity for sympathy and attention. I had a friend who did this and found she was very controlling when I noticed her keep repeating the same drama all over again, complaining that people are relying on her for financial support and sucking her dry, then when people get on their feet and no one's paying her any attention or sucking her dry, she offers her Services again to them and took in some bummy family members to complain about to me everyday! I think the “obey” and “disagree” parts are being taken to seriously by English speakers. Yeah the “obey” can be strong but in Dominican Republic they don’t tend to use it as a demeaning word, I’ve seen they tend to use proper words just to prevent offending anyone but sometimes proper words have stronger meanings like “obey”. He just wants her to listen to him when he tells her about the culture like the butcher shop situation and the saint painting she wanted to put in the shop. The disagree part I also understand him because so far she has been defiant so he just wants support especially when he knows how the country works so he’s not saying or expecting her to agree to his ideas he doesn’t want her to snap back and treat him like a child he’s telling her not to contradict him, why did the show chose the word “disagree” instead of “contradict” maybe to make it more suitable to the American audience who knows. He just wants more emotional support from her, Yohan isn’t traditional when he let his ex have an abortion AND even protected her by changing the words. He’s not traditional because he had premarital sex and even almost fathered children. The only traditional thought he has is that he needs to work to the bone to make sure his wife is comfortable and feed her and that’s not counting the duty of taking care of your family/elders, those are the only traditional things he has said and showed.

@@ragevsraid7703 I never said he was confused, I said the Dominican vocabulary tend to use words that sounds more proper so that way people don’t have the feeling that you’re offending them, they use a more formal vocabulary when they have a serious conversation but usual those formal/proper words have stronger meanings than what they usually intend, that’s what I noticed. You guys are treating him like he’s a hardcore Muslim or a very sexist man when he has shown the contrary (the way she told him you shut up when I speak would’ve earned her a fat lip minimum, if he was actually a sexist Dominican man). I’m not saying he has flaws, he’s definitely with Danielle because he’s definitely a sanky panky, no one can deny that. All I gotta say is, if you don’t or haven’t spent time with anyone from the Caribbean who speaks Spanish then won’t know this minor differences in vocabulary when it comes to formal and informal, especially when it’s partners/spouses arguing, the last thing you want is treat them like a child.
