Thanks Rodney, PLEASE do! I just got my license and don't have anyone to show me how ,except lucky YOU ! ;) I Halis are my target but know nothing about ocean fishing. I spent most of my life fishing lakes. I went to the Agua Hedionda lagoon in Carlsbad tonight and tried pretty much what you're doing in this vid, dropshot rig and a white sardine jelly that I already had (No grubs). NO luck for me though. I'll definitely be subscribing to watch out for your vids and I'll check for previous vids. Thanks again!
Rodney Marquez hey Rodney I live in Mission Valley and have been having horrible luck fishing here. Any chance you'd be willing to meet up at the bay and fish sometime?
Rodney Marquez I have been wanting to fish here for a while just dont know where it is.
Let's go fishing together!! I'm in SD, feel free to message me on here or even better my company Instagram, @runafbs !!
Sup. Love your videos. jw, how often do u get snagged on rocks and lose ur gear?
I’ve watched this like 20 times over the years. You e helped me catch many keepers. Thanks Rodney
@@LedGuitar1218 thank you :)
These videos are great. I just started introducing my 4 kids to fishing in San Diego including my 5 year old twin girls. They love watching your videos and it gets them fired up to catch fish. I love the respectful tone and the appreciation for the beauty of the fish you catch. My 5 year old daughter very seriously told me last night after watching your video for the 10th time that I needed to send you a thumbs up on your channel and to not forget.
My brother and have lived in SD since birth. Over the last year, we've tried to find a hobby that doesn't involve drinking, gambling and strippers. Soo, we started fishing once or twice a week all over SD. Your videos are great and helpful to both of us. Thanks bro
Yo this video is done really well!!! The information you give out is super easy and helpful, plus it is not boring. This was the first video of yours that I’ve seen
Glad it was helpful! tight lines brotha
Hi: I tried your drop shot rig and got a 26 inch halibut on my first cast in the surf I’m hooked and have been catching halibut every time I go thanks for tip 👍 Todd
Good fishing catch and release, thanks for the tip. Great video!
Thank you Luis!
You should make a video on how you tie your drop shot and what hooks, baits ect you need.
Excellent! I'll be visiting San Diego in April. Can't wait to try out this technique. Great how to video.
Wish you luck!
Awesome videos like always, followed your steps on an older video and caught my first hali ever 12in. Then couple months later caught my biggest one that was 21in. So cool to catch and release them!!! Keep up the awesome work!
I love reading comments like these! Congrats Enrique on catching halibut! you almost there for a legal one :D good luck fishing out there my friend
Nothing but Chill Vibes!!
Can't wait to get out and restart fishing, gonna try for some halibut once I get my new setup! Thank you for the inspiration!
love watching your hali vids Rodney! WTG...tight lines to the folks in my former hometown!
Heck yeah! thanks for watching ! hope you enjoyed! stay tuned for another halibut video i am editing right now!
Damn, I’ve never seen one that big in San Diego, Nice!
Thank you sir!
I’ve caught two halibut so far. One with a jig and another with a luckycraft flash minnow 110. I haven’t had luck using grubs or Berkeley mullets but your videos are convincing. I’m gonna keep trying. Thanks for the dope videos!!
Nice shane! I also have caught halibut on those techniques, however never "caught" it on film . Will try filming for that halibut video on the lucky craft
Rodney your videos are getting better and better
Connor Playz thanks ! this one was hard to video , just because hooking up on a halibut it hard itself :D
Your a good guy for releasing them. Great video.
God bless you
thank you!
Cervichae time!
Another great video rodney. I've been fishing the dropshot in the bay like I would for largemouth in the lakes without a lot of success, so your tips really help out.
Timothy you're very welcome , I post these vids to hopefully help
Just found your site, subscribed. I've been fishing down south in the gulf and everyone is all about that tandem rig with gulp. I've never in my entire life thought, using a drop shot technique. Not that it wouldnt work but I just never thought about it. Imagine how many snagged rigs you would save or even fish certain parts where rock/sand hold some big flounders. Now that I know I'm definately going to try this flounder season. Pure genius Rodney.
thanks for taking the time to share, i'm in Boston and headed to San Diego in April, looking for fishing ideas while i'm visiting , i appreciate your efforts to inform, thanks very much
Great video! I got out today and threw the Hali drop shot rig for the first time this year got 3 on the grub one on a swimbait and 4 other hook ups!
bob vangrin heck yeah ! Good report , was this in SD?
Hey Rodney, I am up in NorCal fishing SF Bay and San Pablo Bay
Nice Halibut man, good video.
thank you mike! wish you good luck out there
I love this video. I’m only here in SD for a week and am new to fishing thanks for the tips
I hope you did well?! how was the fishing when you were here?
Brudda you are the best fishing video creator on the web! No unnecessary screaming, no “fish on!” (Only to be done on boats) and you explain things very well!
Great job Rod! Keep up the entertainment for me!
love your vids rodney - short, sweet, informative, good editing, and quirky! thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and passion. i'll try drop shopping up here in long beach.
wasabisohot thanks for the good vibes ! good luck up there in LBC!
Great clip- agreed, there may be weeks before you get the fish you want... but the waiting makes it all worth it when you nail a big flattie!
I am glad someone notice that comment :D fish on brotha
Hey God bless you man, really appreciate the simple breakdown on how to catch halibut. A must see fo any bay fisherman
Incredible video...thank you for putting this together! Very very informative and helpful for the beginner halibut fisherman.
I wish you luck my friend :D
Cool how you put the sizing. Good to learn a little something at the same time because sometimes we all forget what is a legal size. 👍🏼👍🏼
thanks! Yeah I think its important to try and teach as younger generation of fishermen are learning
keep your vids coming! Neat productions and wonderful presence.
No BaDe thanks ! really appreciate the good vibes
I really appreciate of your video that helps me catch my first halibut. You are one of my favorite fisherman youtuber . I can't wait for your next new video especially the halibut videos :)

Matthew Aranzanso nope not all the time . however I do recommend it :) thanks for watching
Rodney Marquez cool! thanks for the quick reply!
Hey Rodney. I just reconned that spot the other day. I'm planning on doing some shoreline casting then getting in the kayak to the south side. I've never caught a halibut. Hope I'm as productive as you.
I wish you luck Mr Martinez! Try that drop shot technique :)
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I'll be following your advice to the T! Thanks for the awesome content. Keep up the great work.
You Conserved the halibuts Life . Great Job
Love the drop shot as well. we just landed a halibut in our last video up in Carlsbad...... this video was well put together with great info. Keep cranking them out Rodney
Couple of nice Hali's . Well done Rod. My fav species to catch out in the bay.

vhrw thanks !!! really appreciate the good vibes :)
Smooth beats, learned a lot great vid man whoot whoot!
Rodney... great vid and to top it off... you caught and released a Hali x 2! Very honorable!
Nice!! I've been catching mostly spotted bass on the bay. I'm pretty sure though I had a fight with a halibut before the line broke! Keep posting. I like ur style. Happy Fishing!
You the only Pinoy I've ever seen to throw a legal sized Hali back 😂😂😂
Much props to you bro, nice fish and nice video on how to fish halibut. and especially teaching catch and release.
What a buzz! Great video!!!
MrGreencheetah thank you :)
2 legal halibut later. I guess I’ll let them go. Classic Rodney😂
Usually TOO lazy to comment, BUT…(ha ha get it? As in haliBUT…oh I slay myself🤣)…ahem…anyway. Do NOT know how u had the fortitude to let those tasty little creatures go! But MAJOR kudos to u bro for the excellent conservation efforts!!👏👏. Positive I wldnt have been able to with out 5 days worth of fillets alrwady back in the fridge.
Limit your catch, NOT catch your limit alive and well in SoCal!!! Way to represent Bro! 😜
High 5 dude. You rock. Thanks for the awesome video.
warren duke thanks yo! really appreciate the good vibes :D
Thank you for releasing. Good man.
100 times better video than everybody in the google squad, except for Jon no one can beat him at editing
Bass Casters thanks for the good vibes! yeah jonB skills at editing is next generation
That drone he flies really adds to his vids......
Great Vid. Coming back home to Cali and will have to try out this rig setup. All it takes is one tug to make the hours of fan casting artificial lures worth it.
Hey Rod thanks for the Halibut tips. Definitely going to try it out.
Happy fishing bro.
awesome vid kuya! i'll be in SD in a couple weeks, gonna try your technique if i can find some shoreline. shoot i should try it up here in SF too. any recommendations for best tide/time of day? salamat, just subbed!
I cough a 26 inch today at Redondo beach using that lure but the gulp brand.
A 1/2 ounce drop shot works well too... Cast far and give it some slack so the weight can submerge as the lure follows it down, reel in and repeat, it'll give it an up and down pattern
What weight torpedo would you recommend for rougher water?
Rodney, I just bought a surf spinning rig. You inspired me.
Great videos! And no cursing too! Going to show my little ones too. Keep up the great work.
You're the best fishing you tuber out there!
Nice vid Rodney! The dropshot rig is perfect for the bays or deeper water columns but harder to use in the surf with too much current. Oh and you will lose plenty of weights so be prepared to pack extra. Cheers man!
for sure! what do you recommend on surf fishing ? I want my next halibut video about the surf :D
Many guys including myself like to throw the Lucky craft 110(5/8oz) cif/115mr or any other type of suspending jerk baits for the surf. However, they are very pricey lures, a great alternative is the Daiwa saltwater minnow pro they are half the price and are heavier. If fishing cover many guys throw the 3-5 inch swimbaits with weedless jig heads. The dropshot is still very effective in the surf but it is always nice to have different tricks at the ready. Plus, the dropshot can be quite boring when fishing is very slow but that's just me lol.
Good teaching, I getting my gear ready for the morning..
Wish you luck buddy!
Nice love this kind of videos don’t see that many from sand Diego and specially teaching me how to saltwater fish off the shore nice keep them coming please
Props on catch and release!
Great video Rodney, Can't fish due to work but enjoy watching your videos. Thanks again Rodney
Thanks! why cant ya fish if you dont mind me asking
My schedule always shifting, long hours & when I got time I have to do a lot of errands but no worries I'm making a career change just to pursuit happiness....Fishing😃
I’m gonna try this set up next time I go to this spot because I only ever catch shovel nose rays here
I'm a international student, I've being follow your video over two years. I really hope to see you how to fishing. Could you tell me when and where do you fishing next time? Thanks :D!
amazing videos. need to go sometime during the week. getting into surf and bay fishing.
BazookaChris I need to learn how to surf fish myself :) good luck fishing out there !
Would be nice to have a video to identify California halibut vs other flounders. They look too similar to me @@. Good catch. Keep it up
Thanks man!
Hey Rodney what's up bro shoutout from lb , honestly switching to this rig has caught me the biggest sculpin I've ever caught. Will be grinding soon for halibut haven't caught any yet thanks bro! God bless
Hey Rene! I am glad this technique worked out for you! :D happy fishing
Super helpful!! I’m a Cali spearfish/rod and reel fish Grom and was wondering how to shore cast for butts!!
Nice catch Rodney. Thanks for sharing
dude nice video, not many other folks will let nice fish go! keep up the dope vids. i catch a ton hali from shore and never drop shot i thing i will give it a try finally .
Amazing. Thanks for showing. Hope to see more videos

Hi Rodney . Nice video ...i wannna try to catch a Halibut. Thanks for the idea.. more video !!!!!!!!
great vid bro! I just started getting into fishing, your videos are so helpful and simple I appreciate your hard work brother. keep up the good work, good vibes!
good vibes to you too sir! and thanks for watching yo
Rodney. Good job as always. Gotta drive down to SD and try it out. Cool vid bro!
Leo Solis good luck ! the halibut been biting !
How about area with rocks and sand? Isn’t there a higher chance of getting stuck with drop shot weight?
true true, there is a higher chance for sure , But I dont really get that much trouble. If I know there is rocks, I usually go to another area of ground where its just sandy bottoms
awasome video, I am also enjoy halibut fishing with light tackle
I’m from San Diego as well your videos are bad ass. Keep it up 🤙🏼
Killer video! Nice slab
Heck yea bro catch and release. Everyone should be doing that too.
:D
Fishing In The Hood all will catch and release and you will go to that spot catch them all for home
@@mike75479 don't trip
@Randy Joe catch em then letting it go, all for fun, but is up to u. Or what best for you.
Awesome video man. Caught a legal one at Batisquitos lagoon in Carlsbad and let it go as well. Sometimes they are too precious to keep! If you ever go there, try rig your grub weedless as there is a ton of weeds. Fish on!
danny on for sure ! I love that lagoon, fished there many times when I had work up there :D
thank you so much!!! can't wait to go surf fishing
i need to do some surf fishing myself :D
That would've been one heck of a catch and cook but keep fishing food amazing videos 👌👏🐟
thanks! Im on the hunt for another legal :D
Wow! Great fishing skills here!
Good stuff man! Nice fish and thanks for the tips
Thank you sir! Stay tuned for another halibut video. I am editing it right now
If I passed my med school final, I should be in SD on the 26! Hopefully I can get a temporary license and try some fishing. I've never cast into the Pacific. I'm from Corpus Christi, Texas and I really like the videos man. I'm currently living in El Paso, so the Cali coast is almost closer to me than my coastal town. Tight lines.
Wish you luck when youre here! if youre fishing from shore you need a valid fishing license . But if you are fishing from any kind of public fishing pier, you do not need any license at all! good luck brotha!
Rodney Marquez I tried drop shotting at shelter island pier. I had something big on but missed it. I rented a car, so let me know where your favorite pier is!
Nice video like always Rodney. Keep up the good work n thanks for the tips like always. I'm gonna definitely try this
Wish you luck brotha!
Going through the archives! LOL Next on my list, Hali!
hahaha I wish you some halibut luck!
You do a nice job in your presentation!
thank you!
Do you set the hook immediately once you feel a bite or do you let them bite for a couple of seconds before setting the hook? I'm asking since I usually miss those flounder bites in Texas and halibuts and flounders are quite similar fish.
I would love to join you sometime. Down here in S.D. also! Keep up the awesome videos!
Hey we have a boat and want to go out in Coronado bay and was hoping you would show us how
that sounds like an awesome time. Although my schedule is hectic with the family adventures at the moment :) send me a DM though in instagram
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel ok I will try
They love those sandy bottoms !!
:D
love your videos. your informative . maybe I'll see you doing a video with beard g soon. please keep fishing cuz we love watching👍
Hey Rodney good video. Maybe I'll see you out there.
Thanks! wish you luck fishing out there!
Good job! So glad halibut season!!!
:D Ill be trying to target them more often now
Rodney Marquez do you have any good spots for Halibut fishing?
Again, another outstanding Hali video. Looks like you fish the same area in all, but I can't figure out where that might be. Care to share with an oldtimer returning to fishing after a long break?? What size, weight rod, line, leader??
Great vid brother! You should check out John Skinner, he is a beast for flounder on the East Coast. Can't wait to hit up Coronado later in the Summer. Hope halibut are biting then.
