@@davidmouw9468 Great call yes, another great example of this, especially compared to The Hobbit trilogy 10 years later, LOTR still looks fresh today thanks to great practical makeup effects + CG combos and shooting on 35mm in real locations means it will still look timeless 100 years from now!
Why use the quotes from the first movie? This sequel already feels like unnecessary nostalgia bait with a very similar plotline to the original, why highlight this even more by reusing the same dialogue.
It dosnt look bad its just dosnt feel like Gladiator needs a sequel. Its perfectly fine story by its own that have start and ending. I wish they make more original movies instead of whatever this is.
I can’t believe how bad this looks. From the performances to the cgi to the lighting. Such a disgrace to the original which was meaningful, thoughtful, and beautiful.
How is that comparable to him playing a Berber? Macrinus was, according to the historical record, a Berber. They were Africans. A low-information viewer might be fooled by the surviving busts of Meperor Macrinus, because low-information viewers are likely unaware that Ancient Roman tradition dictates the appearance of the subject be altered to suit ideals rather than adhere to strict physical accuracy. Which would be like seeing a painting of Jesus from China and assuming that, despite everything the Bible says, Jesus must be a Han. Do you think Jesus is Chinese, Andy?

Everybody making jokes about Denzel. How about we talk about how many movies Denzel did with Ridley's late brother Tony Scott? Perhaps this isn't the movie... but the collaboration is cathartic.
It feels like a bad sign when you see these big epic battle scenes in a movie trailer now, it's like saying, we spent a lot of money to not need a good plot or script. We will see in this case, but it feels like the story telling in modern movies is just forgotten entirely. The first gladiator opened with a big battle sequence, but it was short and not the focal point of the movie. These studios could probably save a lot of money on the budgets and produce more movies that people really want to watch if they could just return to the basics of story telling and the human aspect imo. Oh well, hopefully it is still good in the end.
There’s a hell Of a lot negative comments, has this film been released early and everyone has seen it? ..I thought the trailer looked alright to be fair?..now call me old fashioned..but I’m actually going to wait until the movie comes out, but a cinema ticket go and watch it and make up my own mind !✌️
The main actor doesn't have charisma like Russel has. The CGI doesn't look very good, the rehashed quotes from the first movies in this one is a little off putting. What else?
I had no clue who Russell Crowe was when I saw Gladiator,if you don't know anything about the main actor Paul Mescal he won a Laurence Olivier Award for his portrayal of Stanley Kowalski in a 2022 revival of the play A Streetcar Named Desire. He also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
I guess the new generation of writers have no original thoughts. They're so used to being told what to say and think that they've forgotten how to think for themselves.
why so much CGI it takes away the real feel from most of the scenes ... i would rather see multiple horse riders with swords and bows than cgi crocodiles lions and rhinos... seriously cut of the BS and make it more realistic so atleast some of it is believable
I know I’m suppose to have suspension of belief, but the boat battle in the flooded arena had sharks in the water. How the Hell did Ancient Romans transport sharks and fill the arena with salt water?
Personally, I dont hate it, just have strange feelings that it is a sequel or so. To me, Gladiator was about one character, Maximus and that's all and here it looks like Gladiator is something wider, not only Maximus but about any gladiator, and thus we can expect an infinity amount of movies about different gladiators that isn't something bad, in my opinion. Just this switch from the Gladiator to the gladiators gives strange feelings.
They are forcing themselves to hate it. It's ridiculous, they nitpicked on the music of the last trailer and now it's DEI this, parody that, Denzel this. Forgetting this all came to be from the genius of Ridley Scott who is also the director again. This is his baby and he saw it fit to bring it to life so at least watch it before acting like little kids. It's not as if anyone of you were pining for the first one either.
