L1011 has nicest cockpit back in the days, because i was lucky enough to be offered a jump seat on Cathay L1011 from HKG to ITM in 1993 just 1 year prior they move all international flights to KIX
I know virtually nothing about planes, but the L-1011 is my favourite of all the planes I have experienced. I also noticed that on both these videos, the stereo separation of the audio was superb ... sounds were properly placed. Call me an audio geek. :)
White gloves are a sign of professionalism, efficiency, and respect to the work area. A lot of fields use them (e.g. police, train staff, taxi drivers, etc.). It is more of a tradition practice but also keeps clean the working area thus reducing work afterwards and increases the grip to the controls when you sweat on your hands. I tried them for flying once and they are very nice.
The trim angle of attack for the aircraft was 2 degrees higher than intended due to some anomaly in the wing/wing flap manufacturing. As a result, the hostess crew had to push carts up hill and the nose was at around 8 degrees during landing rather than 6 deg like the DC-10. I loved the aircraft and worked on the autopilot for 13 years. But this 2 deg was a mystery.
@seanlee747 - The PNF has quite a bit to do during landing procedures. In addition to communications, he or she must also operate flaps, gear, and navigation devices, along with much, much more. Not nervous, Sean, but busy.
If you ever watch an L1011 touchdown its angle of attack is pretty step Nose way in the air more so than most modern AC today, they may have had something to do with the decent rate due to wind and cross wind. I had worked on this AC alot and when it was windy out one expected a hard landing, or a go around lol because we floated above the runway to long.
@BoeingGuru - perspiration is acidic. It can destroy, over time, various surfaces in an aircraft. One wears gloves to protect the aircraft. Simply, do you want to get in a car where someone has had their hands all over it, sweating on the wheel? They do not wear the gloves while they are eating, though. Hard to handle the ohashi while eating obento with gloves on.
White gloves are worn in part for what the Japanese pilots call the "critical 11 minutes" which are the first 5 for take off and the last 6 of landing.

@solomonpilot767 3... capt, f/o, f/e
