We're working on it as fast as possible but solar comes with its own issues and it's expensive so most average people don't have the resources to get off the national grid with solar. And yes running any sort of business or even just doing ones job becomes very difficult. Everyone I know is investing in battery inverters and generators but a lot of people just can't afford these things. In a few years Eskom will be crying because they have no income because everyone has an off grid setup or is getting power from an IPD of some kind. Eskom will cry as it goes under just like our postal service.

In 2001 a friend from Botswana told me that South Africa was going to have an electricity shortage unless they started to build new power stations. 6 years later , the load shedding started. After 12 years of load shedding , I had enough and left SA for good.

The next day he needed a fuse which he had to get from the depot which is 25km away. He only came back the next day, without his screwdriver. The following day he needed a part from the main depot. We all pay availability fees. It is time we deduct our availability per day from our bills. So far in 2022 we had 73 days without power.
