Honestly who uses the power button anyway? In 6 months I used mine twice and one of those was the initial setup. It’s certainly worth the upgrade, especially if you’re still running an Intel Mac.
That’s not the point. The point is someone at Apple purposefully coming up with the most infuriating design choices to piss people off. I’m sure any decent industrial designer could’ve come up with a good hidden easy to reach button. Like how they still put charging port under the Magic Mouse.
I want the Mac Mini M4 Pro and I want it completely blown out with all of the addons! My CFO (wife) said I would be lucky to get the base Mac Mini M4 with external storage. I'll take it! :-)
@@mosando she actually told me to go ahead and order it. As the Chairman of the Board, President and CEO I chose to delay acquisition until 4th QTR of the year. I am expecting my subsidiary (my oldest son) to gift me the M4 and a 2 TB external drive.

In a rack you have front mechanisms for mac minis to be rebooted, we rarely hard reboot servers but pulling out a rack and manually restarting all Minis in there is silly. There will be a ratcheting mechanism to hit the button on in some rack in days. Maybe they'll do keyboard style flippers like on the old VAX machines
@@iJustine I don't think we ever had a mechanism break. Then again we never interacted with them. We rebooted like 4 times for updates and network settings since last hardware switch and only through ssh. So nobody ever pushed any switches. I would much prefer if they had an interrupt (reboot) button like the old G3 iMacs, those even had a separate lane on their USB ports so you could turn them off via that. I will say though, the one scenario I can imagine where I would have to hard reboot is if one of the machines hang up and the proper racks have a power interrupt hat you can trigger from ethernet... So realistically the buttons are pointless. Maybe they won't even bother with mechanisms anymore.
I think in a Mac Mini farm there will be racks made just to hold them. Access would be made easier. But as the experts here have said probably no need for a hard reboot.

At first, I was thinking that the power button placement was a dumb idea, but I'm thinking that if you're mounting this on the back of a monitor with the fans pointing away from the back of the monitor, then that power placement is probably perfect.
The same companies that make rack mounts for the previous Mini have to redo them for the new size anyway so they will simply relocate the arm that presses the power button. Not an issue.

I am one of those people who when goes out of the office shut all the computers down and hard boot every machine once I come in the next day (or actually everyone in my office just starts their mac/pc once back in the office). Only the server is on so people with iPads and laptops can access the server. In my current scenario it is just put the hand behind the Mac mini and switch it on. No issue at all. I will hold to buy one as m1 replacements until they fix the button in the next iteration and if they don’t and all my machines are kind of old and grumpy, I will wait till a cover or other alternative is brought up to solve this button problem
It's literally not any harder than turning on the previous gen Mac mini where the button is in the back and you have to do a reach around to access it anyway. If you put up with the power button placement on the M1 Mac mini you can put up with the power button on the bottom corner.

And Roblox runs great. Will be testing with Whisky for running some PC Games either tonight or tomorrow and perhaps some Mac steam games too. Cemu wii u emulator with breath of the wild runs not much faster in fps than on M1 despite the better graphics cores but that app is a development version and not finalised, however it loads almost 100% faster

I'm having issues with mine, only allowing 50hz on my 1440p ultrawide that can do 100hz, and no volume control when I use my display as the output, just 100% or 0% volume, the alert volume slider works though...

Base model Mac mini still crippled for not supporting monitors with high refresh rate; 60Hz is old tech. M4 Pro with Thunderbolt 5 is especially important for anyone used to displays with ProMotion for adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz on MacBook or iPhone pro.
I would buy a 256 Gb M1 Mac Mini in preference to a 256 Gb M2 Mac Mini. This is because The SSD in the 256 Gb M1 Mac Mini consists of two 128 Gb flash modules, whereas the SSD in the M2 Mac Mini consists of only one 256 Gb Gb flash module which is half as fast as two modules. This leads to the most important question about the 256 Gb M4 Mac Mini. Does the 256 Gb M4 Mac Mini have two 128 Gb flash modules or only one 256 Gb Flash module? If the £599 M4 model has two modules then it is a very good buy. Otherwise the 512 Gb £799 M4 model is the only sensible choice.
I watched "2024 M4 Mac Mini Teardown" by "Brandon Geekabit" and it reveals that the flash memory is located on a removable daughter board resembling the standard M.2 2230 flash memory board in a Steam Deck. Superficially it looks as if this daughter board is a standard part but I suspect that Apple has modified this board to have a proprietary design to make user upgrades impossible.

The power button location under the unit is a deal breaker for me. They could've put the button directly above or next to the inlet like they did on the Intel model. I have an M2 Mac Studio. Hopefully, Apple will not change the Mac Studio design and power button location on the M4 models. Then I can rackmount both together side by side.
Yeah the ONOFF button on Mac Mini M4 is a BAD design. I've used Macs since 1985, always had some models at home and this is SO BAD! It's sad. I really hope the can solve it. A solution like that would please so many customers, then it's okay to also have an ONOFF button on that horrible position. I am currently working on an AMD Ryzen 7 770x Desktop with 64 Ggia Ram and an NVidea 3060 OC video card. I have turned my attention to the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 12 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, 24GB, 512GB SSD or the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores, 24GB, 512GB SSD or the Apple Mac Mini PC with Apple M4 Pro processor, 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores, 48GB, 1TB SSD. I mention that I use LR photo editing and video in Davinci Resolve 4k in multicam (2 maximum 3 cameras). Are the ones I mentioned above better than the system I mentioned first in Windows and is it worth switching to Mac or not and which of the ones listed would cope? Thank you
MacOS should be left on unless you have a specific reason to reboot... it's the opposite of Windows and the OS maintains and improves itself over time based on your usage which is only possible if you don't keep powering it off / rebooting. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the exact reason the power button is so awkwardly placed in addition to whatever internal restraint. The only time I actually reboot my Mac's is when there is an OS update that requires it or on the rare occasion something isn't working properly.
I suggest you use both American and International measurements because you have global audience who don't understand pound or inch. Thanks for the reviews
I never turned off my chromebook plus since i bought it, it had a exceptional battery life of 14 hours.. Only occasional restarts. I don't care about power button anymore. To keep it in perspective.. we never turn off our phone.. we would run to wall if it is at 1%. So, it's not a big deal if power button is at bottom..

You can also just flip it over and use it that way if the power button thing is bugging you. It'll probably be more efficient for the fans

As a low level developer who hard reboots often, having a power button down there is hella inconvenient but not a deal breaker.
The power button issue is a non issue in my opinion. I have an M1 iMac and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve had to push that button.

What button issue, just lift and push. As technology advances, we are becoming more and more lazy and want everything to be easy.

I never turned off my chromebook plus since i bought it, it had a exceptional battery life of 14 hours.. Only occasional restarts. I don't care about power button anymore. To keep it in perspective.. we never turn off our phone.. we would run to wall if it is at 1%. So, it's not a big deal if power button is at bottom..

The power button is there to stop third parties selling usable bases with storage extensions
