I've been really enjoying these scripture readings and critiques from Father Mike. I have been a staunch athiest for 25 years but am finding alot of meaning in the bible and their teachings.
I'm in my second year of daily reading of: The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)). Being 70 years old and raised a catholic I can't believe it took me all these years to read the Holy Bible cover to cover What a great way for me to start each day. Thank you for the daily podcast!
I, too, was raised a catholic and I just started the BIAY in January. I can't believe it took me all these years as well. Yes, I agree it is a great way to start the day. Let's keep reading!!
Lord help me to accept the fact that I can no longer do the things I use to do, but one thing I can do is pray. Therefore I try to pray the Rosary every day. I pray for the Pope, for Father Milk and so on
Just finished BIY episode 139 and was rewarded with a great sense of service as I am a porter before mass at my present church in Colorado Springs. After hearing your words Father Mike extolling the virtue in what seems to be such a minimal act of service being a porter portends, I stand forever buoyed by your belief that my simple service is in itself a miracle since it is done with joy and service to the lord Jesus Christ. My outlook is forever changed.
Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.
Day 139. 18 May 2024. 1st Time. Thank You, LORD, for revealing Yourself to us and nourishing our souls with Your Word. Praying for all priests, like Fr. Mike, and religious, and all devout and faithful souls. Praying also for mankind, especially sinners. Most importantly, O God, praying for the intentions of Our Lady. ❤❤❤ Fr. Mike's insight of "everything that we do, when we do it for the LORD, it's sanctifying..." reminds me of what Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, said that even "picking up a pin (or pen?), can make us into saints, if we do it for the LORD.
Day 140 - today, Saturday May 18th, 2024 When I was younger I could 3 jobs, I had a full time job Monday to Friday from 7am to 3:30 pm, I had a part time job Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm. I had another part-time job Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 9pm. Now that I am older and my body does not have the strength and energy of my youth I can only work 36 hours a week. I thank God for all His blessings and protections towards me a sinner. I could have died like 9 times already but by the grace of God Almighty I am still alive and rolling on. Deo gratias ❤❤❤❤
What a joy to hear Fr. Mike mention Blessed Solanus Casey. He was a simple priest in Detroit, and my Mom and her family knew him. I grew up hearing about him. In 2017 I had the honor of singing in the choir at his beatification Mass. 70,000 people attended that Mass. He died in the 1950s and remains the best known and likely the most influential religious figure in Michigan's history.
Two years with Bible in a Year with father Mike, third year Catechism in a Year, and back this year with Bible I learn something different each time and always a lesson to be learned. God bless father Mike.
Thank you Father Mike if it wasn't for you I would not understand some of these scriptures. I would love to work on the door of the Lord's Temple Like you Father Mike I cannot do what I did 20 years ago. Humility. God bless all 🙏💖
King David loves Justice, in doing what is good, right , fair and just. He rights wrongs , he shows mercy, and he pardons people who repent. King David walks humbly with God, consulting and discerning with Him, the way he should go. He wants to do Gods' will and carry out his wishes. Although King David is Annointed, he's not perfect, he is human, and he does accept that he has physical limits, now he is older. He Is willing to serve Gods' people still in any way he can and he trusts God to do the rest. God Bless David and all who, like him, are after Gods' own heart. Blessed be God forever and ever. ♥️
Lord, strengthen me, my brothers and sisters and Father Mike for our obedience and discernment. O Lord, I am poor and needy. Lord, please think of me do not forsake me. Forgive my sins and watch over people who suffer because of my sins. Amen.
That's why I disobeyed and sinned..At 70 yrs old raised Catholic, finally getting answers to my religion..finding out about scriptures..because they hid information..no bible studies..Nothing..So better late than never..God knows my heart and knew the church back in my day...no info given..no reasons given...A shame..
I am sorry for you that the info was not given. In our religion classes in high school we studied and discussed all of this the good and the bad the sins and the virtues.😪
I’m 74, I remember my mama taking me and my 5 brothers to catechism classes each and every Wednesday during the school year. I was raised in east Texas, I remember my mother saying she had to drive 20-30 miles to go to Mass on Sunday. Sometime in the 1950’s my home town got its first Catholic Church. History repeats itself I too while living in east Texas about 20 years ago had to drive about 30 miles for a Sunday Mass.🤗
I would rather be a guard at tge temple door than anywhere else. God give me a heart that desires You abd to serve You, give me a heart that loves You more than myself and what im comfortable with or want to resign with. Give me a new, clean, happy heart for You. ❤❤❤❤
Dear lord ,I pray for every person doing this bible reading and learning so much .I pray for Father Mike..to all people may you turn to our Lord for comfort when battles seem seem endless he always helps us and with Love ...amen xx
Forgive me, Lord, for my sins. I am so very sorry. Please God, have mercy on all sinners who repent and love you. Praying for Souls in Purgatory. My Lord, and my God. When I used to be a church goer. One of my jobs was to be at the door welcoming people and giving them the hymn books, order of service and whatever else was to be given out that day, as they came in.
Obedience over sacrifice. Doing what I can only do and do not do what I cannot do, thus Thy will be done. Thank you Father Mike! God bless. 😇 Happy Feast Day of Immaculate Conception. Obedience like that of our Mother Mary. 😇

It is highly recommended way of praising the Lord by reading the bible. Thank you for sharing this with us. Praying for Father Mike and everyone who is in need of prayer and also for those who no one prays for that are known to God alone, may we pray for them also. Thank you God for giving us Your Grace.

29th May 2024, please pray for the conversion of many many people in South Africa 🇿🇦 before they vote for a new government today . Oh, Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.
Father Mike, when we talk about free will and the consequences of it is easier to understand "why bad things happen to good people" (Harold Kushner on Job) In this lesson are you saying God is driving the famine or causing something "physical" to occur because of a past sin? or is God simply filling David in on the universal consequence (some perhaps deeper revelation of how all things are connected) of sin and not "causing" the famine?
11:37 Father in heaven, we thank you and give you praise. It is true that sacrifice and offering you desire you've given and open ear, and open heart to what you desire is obedience. What you desire is for us to have a heart like yours. What you desire is mercy, not sacrifice, obedience, not sacrifice, in so many ways that when we do offer you sacrifice, it is only out of obedience. It is always as simply a gift to you and done in response to your invitation. Lord, God, we ask that you please always, always make us obedient to you, help us to always say yes to you and to never ever stop saying yes, and even in the moments of disaster, even moments of where we have said no to you, even moments of great sin in our lives, help us in that moment to take the very next good step, and that next good step being to simply say yes, once again. Help us to say yes to you and to never stop saying yes. In Jesus' name. Amen. †
Spiritual reason for a physical phenomenon. I think that's what my low self esteem of many times is. Hmm maybe of half the time I just belabor on it too much.
Ok I get how others suffer for our sins. I get the point Fr Mike made about element of justice etc …. But hadn’t the commandments been given - and isn’t one of them Do not kill? ….. I’m not talking about wars - please comment Fr Mike
@@patmendell381 that’s why I asked. Using words like “everything” kind of leaves things open to interpretation. It’s almost like saying that we can do what we want or serve God however as we see fit and as long as we do it in his name it’s ok.
I agree with you. Needlessly killing those who are innocent because of the wrongs/ sins of their father makes no sense, nor is it 'justice' or a 'consequence' of Saul's sins. What did murdering them achieve - apart from a display of horrific cruelty? What about "Thou shalt not kill"? It is just an example of brutal murder and human sacrifice. What could those 7 men have done to prevent Saul's sins? Absolutely nothing and yet they were murdered. How are they responsible and why would killing them be justifiable? These sorts of ugly, brutal, heinous stories in the Bible break my heart and make no sense to me. The cruelty and murder is inexplicable and Fr Mike just totally glossed over it like it was just fine to have 7 men murdered as a "consequence" of Saul's sins! Sure all sins have consequences BUT that does not justify the murder of 7 innocent men! How does that address or right any sin/wrongdoing that Saul (who was dead already) had done. Where does forgiveness and mercy exist in this horrific example of senseless mass murder of 7 sons of Saul?
So much brutality in the Old Testament. It seems to me that only after the coming of Jesus, the Messiah, does the of concept of mercy and justice meet.
Adam and Eve committed original sin and their sin caused suffering for mankind. God sacrificed His only Son to save us. Human sacrifice. Killed. Wasn't guilty of any crime. Food for thought...
@@cbtherepetitiveparthelpsme957 Good insight. However, Jesus sacrificed Himself, while David sacrificed others. Still, in both cases, the human sacrifice afforded forgiveness. The danger is in thinking human sacrifice might be fruitful today. Or is it? Is that what wars are about?

Amen

Father in heaven, we thank you and give you praise. Amen.

Can we discuss more about who exactly the Giants were? I feel like this is a topic that is never discussed, and I have so many questions.

Spiritual reason for a physical phenomenon. I think that's what my low self esteem of many times is. Hmm maybe of half the time I just belabor on it too much.

Day 139, 1/2/2022
Ok I get how others suffer for our sins. I get the point Fr Mike made about element of justice etc …. But hadn’t the commandments been given - and isn’t one of them Do not kill? ….. I’m not talking about wars - please comment Fr Mike
SAINT Brother André of Montreal Canada was, in part, a famous porter. I invite you to look him up :)

I have a question Father. When you say that everything we do for the Lord us sanctifying, is there a limit to that?
Personally, I could never limit myself to doing good for our lord.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@patmendell381 that’s why I asked. Using words like “everything” kind of leaves things open to interpretation. It’s almost like saying that we can do what we want or serve God however as we see fit and as long as we do it in his name it’s ok.
Well you are right, we can always do what we want. God gave us freedom of choice, but shouldn’t you always want to do what is pleasing to God?
Why do the descendants of the giants have 6 fingers & toes?
Too much slewing allowed back in this day of Saul and David..
Human sacrifice? Allowing 7 to be killed for Saul's offenses doesn't seem right....
They take the gold, silver, etc from defeated tribes. Isn't that theft?
