We need this atomic station as renewables won’t do enough.

I heard this live.....what I picked on.....they've been saying for years the lights will go out in winter but they never do. I'm guessing that Brian Blesserd here, is the same guy who shouts "Climate emergency we only have 30 minutes to live"

      Michael,
our national grid is slowly but surely getting less reliable by the year, with less and less spare capacity to call up when it's forecast that the available power will be insufficient.
Grid power outages are quite complex but once it goes beyond a certain point it will cascade to a total failure. When, it's impossible to predict as so many variable factors are involved.
Renewables are not the answer, and it's lunatic to build more when it's well known now just how bad they are. You'll never read or hear that in the media because they do not understand the subject. One type of generator is the same as another they think, well that's just not true, renewables are inferior.
Incidentally summer is the more likely time for a large scale grid failure as much plant is shut down for maintenance.

What is more important, a bird or a frog or some lesser spotted yellow tailed newt or millions of people in the UK suffering possible black outs, energy rationing or being cold in winter each and every Winter for years to come. And don't get me started on friggin Wind Turbines. What a waste of money and good land!!!!

The technology to be used is not that clever, it needs reviewing
The environmental costs of the wind turbines are always ignored by these people - turbine blades kill thousands of birds every year on top of which the cabling from the turbines causes lots of problems for sea life

I'm kind of against it and I'm pro nuclear power, I think we should have small modular reactors outside every town and city, that is far far more efficient than one huge reactor that loses so much energy on transmission.

    • @andrewwhite1065
      @andrewwhite1065 2 роки тому +1

Totally agree.... and I believe it's possible to construct a small modular reactor each year.

@@andrewwhite1065 ideally they'd just be sealed and containerised and you just need to hook them up to services at the installation location.
Innovation needs to really kick off with nuclear, remove its stigma.

Big reactors are easier to control in terms of where radioactive materials are used and distributed.

@@Codysdab France has done quite well.
Take a proven concept (Westinghouse PWR) and adapt it to your own needs.
Standardize everything around it to make it economical feasible.
Most French NPPs went online between 1979 and 1994. That's roughly 15 years, the 1.5 GW units Chooz B and Civeaux followed later.
With less money and time France has achieved an around 8 to 10 times better result regarding CO2eq/kWh compared to Germany, where I am from.
Other highly negative side effects like lacking inertia/spinning reserve, no important short circuit power from inverter powered devices and staggering redispatch numbers are unknown in the French grid.
The system costs of nuclear power are by far the lowest if hydro is not possible.
The soceity had to learn that comparing feed-in tariffs from volatile sources with low capacity factors like pv and wind can not be compared with dispatchable nuclear generation.

Sizewell C is an amazing project that the UK needs. UK should just build another 10 EPRs besides the two at Hinkley Point C for a total of 14 EPRs for the next 80-120 years.

Anyone who objects at the building of sizewell c or Hinkley C should be disconnected from the national grid.
If they refuse to allow the building of power stations, then they shouldn't get to benefit from its output.
This guy doesn't even sound local, he is probably a retiree from London who just doesn't want it in his backyard and doesn't care about the local area and jobs it will bring.

What is so wrong with Rolls Royce nuclear generators. We’d have British made generators sited near the point of use, national security because we wouldn’t be reliant on a few generator sites and it’s required power distribution infrastructure, the costs and profits would stay in Britain and they’d be easily exchangeable

If you come onto a program to protest at least know what you are talking about! No matter what is suggested or proposed to solve our energy crisis there will be those who oppose it for some reason or another. The government should just pick and option and just build it! Any opposition will soon become silent once they have cheap energy at their fingertips, If not ,before long we will be living like stone age heating and cooking on camp fires.
