There is no better optimization. This is how game design works. You want 1440p graphics OR 120 FPS performance? You can’t have both. You want to run 100+ mods & 1,000+ assets OR 120 FPS performance? You can’t have both. There’s always a catch 22. Unless companies design innovative PC hardware/software that CAN... I don’t know how though. Who CAN? Edit: 100+ mods & 1,000+ assets, and you’re using 32GB, that’s impossible. And you’re expecting to make it possible? What logic is this?
@@alohatigers1199 They could certainly improve it, I run about 5200 assets and 25 or so mods. 1080p ultra/high. I'm not expecting 144Hz performance. I do however think that if Paradox wanted to, they could focuses some resources on mod support and improve the experience.

So. Looks like I'm adding a river :D and I think the reason why Miami got so bad is like you said, density. And maybe 81 tiles. I had a city with around 110k population and it wasn't bad like this, but it had no mods.
The speed of the RAM can also help increase FPS and drastically improve loading times. I compared my old 2666MHz 32GB RAM with my new 3600MHz 32GB RAM. Loading times (using Loading Screen Mod) went from 13/16 minutes with the old RAM setup to just 4 minutes with the new RAM. I also managed to get a nice 4-5 FPS improvement and that's using 9 000 assets.
@@LetsTakeWalk you don't necessarily need an SSD. You'll do by just fine with an HDD. Of course an SSD does offer some nice gains but that's if you're using an NVMe. The difference thou isn't that much to justify getting an SSD.
@@plaxci You say that because it’s cheaper. That’s not a good reason to switch BACK to HDD. SSD prices are dropping BTW. The HDD uses more power to just boot up to remember the files and programs.
@@alohatigers1199 it wouldn't make sense in the first place to switch back to an HDD. I think you missed my point; Cities Skylines uses a lot of virtual memory hence why two dollars says it's a RAM intensive game. An SSD won't make much of a difference to justify buying it for better loading times. I have an SSD (both NVMe and SATA 3) along with a hard drive and I've spent countless hours testing to see what works best. An interesting discovery that I've made is that an HDD that isn't running windows runs much much quicker than one with windows - so say if you have a spare HDD that has nothing on it and you install the game there, it'll actually load a lot much quicker than if it had windows. So if you're already running an SSD then that's fine.

cool video wish i knew about this one earlier. i finally started playing C:S with mods earlier this year (because i had to get the achievements before i allowed my self to play modded) then spent roughly 100+ hours on a beautifull city and the game just refuses to load it nowadays so i just gave up on playing C:S for now.
Just watch some great tips for me to try one thing I do is use a skip list for vanilla stuff that is way bloated and replace with a workshop assett that is more optimised.
Lay down the loud distance and uses the asset with lowest meshes was the best tips for me, but I have to say the change the IA simulation in the tmpe menu doesn't change anything to me, even with my city with 90k citizens.
I'm currently at 14bg of ram and I have over 1k assets. Takes about a half hour to load up and another 10 minuets of messing with the game speed and moving around to get it to be smooth. I know I tempt fate every time I download a new asset or mod but they all look so good in the workshop!!
I'm running 32GB ram and 5200 assets, takes me around 7-10 mins to load in. Do you have an ssd? And are you using those optimizations he talked about? That will decrease your loading time
Do trees that do not appear drain CPU or RAM usage? I'd been using Move It to place a selection of trees in gaps, until I realized it was actually placing the whole selection, and the trees that *would* appear underneath buildings and roads are actually there and selectable(but they just don't appear). Does the tree brush work similarly? I haven't used one before.
What I do not like is that the game doesn't seem to take all of the PC resources available. When i'm having FPS issues, I always open the Windows task manager, and I'm surprised to find that everything is being used around 40-60%... even RAM (I have 64GB)! I would like a way to assign more resources to the game, like force it to use all resources available all the time. Maybe there's a way to do that in windows? I don't know....
That's not way to do this in windows or in the game, only a few mods will give you 5% or 10% maximum performance increase. The game engine is super limited and this will only be different in the future cities skylines game
now you have finished miami i have an idea for a new series, try to build an european city, not like skibitth (french city) but a mediterranean city (portugal, spain, italy, greek, or maybe tunisia, egypt or israel. It could be very cool and beautiful to watch
my game literally averages 20-30 fps on an EMPTY map with an RTX 4070ti with 32gb ram and 8 core cpu. And the funny part is the game doesn't even use anything above 15% of any, it even uses only 3gb of ram. This is the same performance I got with my old 4gb rx 570, 8gb ram and 4 core cpu.
I think the biggest problem of this game is about badly optimized RAM usage. I bought last year 32 gigs just for running this game and now I am almost at the limit once again with 1300 workshop addons (idk why Loading Screen Mod says they're about 4200 tho). I mean come on...

What I’ve been doing lately is using Dynamic resolution and downsapling to 75% (although I’m stuck with 4K monitor and GPU which does not handle it well enough)
i have an rtx 3080 and an i9 9900k and my game is capped at 40fps sad :( and when i start building a medium sized city it dips to 30. Is there anyway to uncap the fps?
The real question is. Why won’t the game run all cores of the CPU? I got 10 core 20 thread CPU with 32 GB OF 3400 MHz ram, an nvme ssd, and an RTX 3090 and the game won’t run more then like 4 cores at 50%-75% and can get past 70 FPS when zoomed in on a busy section. Plus the GPU is barely being used at all

You want to run 100+ mods & 1,000+ assets OR 120 FPS performance? You can’t have both.
There’s always a catch 22.
Unless companies design innovative PC hardware/software that CAN... I don’t know how though. Who CAN? OR maybe companies should create an Innovate Game Engine that CAN, I don’t know if it’s possible.
Because games will always be 4k capped at 60 FPS.
@@alohatigers1199 No one is talking about 120 FPS, 30 would be great. And it's possible but not with the current engine that is older that 5 years already. Better hardware doesn't give you better CS performance anymore. Optimisation will be possible only in CS2 with a new engine, that's what everyone is waiting for.
paradox interactive should optimize their game to use multi-core cpu efficiently
Thanks! I appreciate the information regarding tree usage. I believe I have been placing too many trees in my cities.
You know, one of the things that happened to me was that I was using the tree brush with the prop and tree anarchy on, and when I thought i just placed couple of trees, it turned out there were A LOT of overlapped trees. Now I'm very careful of turning off the Prop and tree anarchy before placing trees... I'm also starting to get used to copy/pasting trees with move it instead of placing them traditionally... hope it helps somehow..
Dude, do you have an SSD? Because it looks like you need an SSD.
@@LetsTakeWalk you don't necessarily need an SSD. You'll do by just fine with an HDD. Of course an SSD does offer some nice gains but that's if you're using an NVMe. The difference thou isn't that much to justify getting an SSD.
@@plaxci
You say that because it’s cheaper. That’s not a good reason to switch BACK to HDD.
SSD prices are dropping BTW.
The HDD uses more power to just boot up to remember the files and programs.
@@plaxci if anything, did you actually test it to see you’re right?
Great tips and advice! Thanks for this!
Of course this is very soon after I built my new pc.
Great video lol. I definitely have a problem with to many assets.
I ran 700 mods and assets on 4gb quad core cpu. What are your specs for your new pc?
@@chiefkeefgaming2005
The main parts are:
Ryzen 5 3600
GTX 1660 Super
16gb DDR4 3600
I wasn't saying that I was having trouble running CS on this one though. I was just saying I had trouble running it on my old PC.
Also, I notice how I wasn't very clear, but when I said I have a problem with too many assets, I just meant that I don't unsubscribe from any and I've ended up with tons of assets I don't even need.
Awesome tips, the mesh info is a great one. Please bring back Sichuan for me, bae?
My solution is to build a desert city. Because:
1. I wanted to make a city on a desert anyway
2. It’s basically barren with nothing so yay
cool video wish i knew about this one earlier. i finally started playing C:S with mods earlier this year (because i had to get the achievements before i allowed my self to play modded) then spent roughly 100+ hours on a beautifull city and the game just refuses to load it nowadays so i just gave up on playing C:S for now.
Very Helpful! Thank you so much.
Mods do decrease performance a lot though because of how the game handles them. Not custom assets, those dont matter, they only eat the ram
That will decrease your loading time
another good option is mod compatibility checker it take like 5 mins 2 check all ur shit nd ur str8
When he said 32gb is necessary for his 2000assets and mods
I remembered that I run 1448 mods and assets on 8gb of ram 👀
Do trees that do not appear drain CPU or RAM usage?
I'd been using Move It to place a selection of trees in gaps, until I realized it was actually placing the whole selection, and the trees that *would* appear underneath buildings and roads are actually there and selectable(but they just don't appear). Does the tree brush work similarly? I haven't used one before.
It really helpful 🙌
I wish a had a pc to play cities skylines or anything :(
What I do not like is that the game doesn't seem to take all of the PC resources available.
It could be very cool and beautiful to watch
hmmmm maqybe i should show my city /region of Segundp then,,, fits your description
@hoaxashian they arent but they are mediterranean countries
And if you use low-poly trees, then with a large number of them you can save FPS?
im on Ryzen 5, msi RX 5700, 16 GB 3200 RAM and my still growing-sprawling suburb-80K population city is at like an average 15-20 fps.
Don't let me know if it wasn't LMAO
my game literally averages 20-30 fps on an EMPTY map with an RTX 4070ti with 32gb ram and 8 core cpu.
And the funny part is the game doesn't even use anything above 15% of any, it even uses only 3gb of ram.
This is the same performance I got with my old 4gb rx 570, 8gb ram and 4 core cpu.
awesome and very educating video
Much needed video
i have 4000+ assets, many mods, and all with 16gb RAM and a ryzen 7 w/ radeon graphics. tips to improve performance and/or load time?
I think the biggest problem of this game is about badly optimized RAM usage. I bought last year 32 gigs just for running this game and now I am almost at the limit once again with 1300 workshop addons (idk why Loading Screen Mod says they're about 4200 tho). I mean come on...
nearly at 100k hype in the chat
Found it very useful. Improved my FPS in about 100% (23 fps to 48 average)
What’s the name of the song in the video. Please reply, I would love to know.
next dlc should be only about optimization....it would be better and usefull than some dlcs
Either you want 1440p graphics or 120 FPS performance.
Either you want 100+ mods & 10,000 assets or 120 FPS performance. You can’t have both. You can’t have ALL OF THEM.
*There’s always a catch 22.*

None of this would be important if the CO would give us new game CSL2 on proper new engine...
great info!
Have you released the Springfield (modified marble mountain) map?
This was helpful
What I’ve been doing lately is using Dynamic resolution and downsapling to 75% (although I’m stuck with 4K monitor and GPU which does not handle it well enough)
i have an rtx 3080 and an i9 9900k and my game is capped at 40fps sad :( and when i start building a medium sized city it dips to 30. Is there anyway to uncap the fps?
What are those two cities you show on google earth? I want to make something like that!
Plus the GPU is barely being used at all
City skylines is badly optimised and its not a gpu based game
Petition to revive Sichuan Province. 🥺🥺
I can't find pres video . Anyone got one Or tell me which 5 mods please
Can you please answer my questions here?
1. I Dont have any mods, assets, etc i dont even downloaded it!
2. i have clean my laptop almost every minute to see that there is no malwares or viruses on my pc.
3. And for yall information, this citie sksylines is the ONLY GAME I INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP.
4. And for yall inforamtion too, the Laptop's GB is 930 GB while the USED GB is only 143 GB which means i have 786 FREE GB.
5. this game is the Only App that has the largest GB. all apps here mostly dfrom the laptop itself is only at 200 MB BELOW.
so why it's still SLOW?
in my own, i just decrease my resolution and color correction but still it is Too laggy.
EDIT: when i even play this game, i CLOSE ALL RUNNING APPS IN THE BACKGROUND. i EVEN open Task Manager and END TASK the applications that run even if i closed it.
I love the mod list excel. Waiting to upgrade my ram and hardrive. The recent windows update made one of ram stick obsolete for some reason. I wish ppl would do more Must have top 10 mod list. I can wait to add the new mod for road editing.
anybody have a link to that "pres 5 mods to delete" video?
you said that Miami was slow in part bc of population but you only have 70k people. my cities (when I like them and put in some time) are usually between 100k and 300k and they aren’t big (in space)
But there is still have the limit that the game team set
So u still can’t build the city too large
i have exactly the same pc as you and my game go so bad i don't know why
Can someone tell me the name of those two maps?
Why on my game that all become sky
nice tipps and tricks but paradox really needs to make cities skylines 2 on a better engine. even a beast pc cant handle it. i mean my pc can handle ms flight sim a lot better than cs with assets :/

the awful performance of this ancient game frustrates me to no end and I've just given up, for the time being I'm waiting for a suitable replacement. If that day never comes, I'll just have to abandon the genre or make a replacement myself
nice!
Does anybody know the background songs name?
Me on console like: 👀
I can't watch this right away. I'm at school 😥
im at death
good video
Weird LUT @7:05 , water looks like poop just like the light. Meh. Just install enough of memory at least 32 GB but better 64 GB for CS
A RTX 3090 should do the job
You would think, but i've seen users do benchmarks on cities skylines and majority of the time this game doesn't seem to utilize the power of higher end GPUs like you'd think. Unless the new 3000 series Nvidia cards have corrected this and the game will unlock the full potential of the 3000 series GPUs and the new AMD 6000 series.
just upgrade to 64 gb of ram :)
Solution: They MUST change the engine...
The problem is not engine. They used Unity for this but the version they used is extremely old, back to the time when Unity only used single core, that's where the actual problem is. I am actually surprised why they didn't port it to Unity 5, which now supports multi core processing.
yea, just remove all mode etc
let me know if it was, dont let mi know if it wasnt :)))))))))))))))))))
Why do all the people wants to recreate network xD?
I think i remember that city 0:17 is that a city from intro for sun set harbor DLC you delevoped that.
9:37 sorry 2$20, but this video wasn't useful :(
Still gave thumb up tho
Making city look dead to save fps? Pretty dumb advice.
