One massive misconception that I had when watching you and other top cities skylines players is that you guys constantly had an incredible amount of fps. I was so discouraged from playing because my game never ran as smoothly as yours even though my computer specs are on the higher end. I was shook when I learned that wasn't the case at all, and all you guys do is speed up the video in post processing to make the fps seem higher. Now I feel encouraged to start my own series which is already in the works! :D

Makes sense from reading ur comment. Appears hardware along what change much. My city made me start wanting a new PC, but after reading comments... I don't think it sill help...
My laptop is like 8 years old....was mid end in its day.... I still pull 30-40 fps on 2x speed with 120l+ pop., slowing now.... I'm seeing specs ALOT better than mine having same issue. Kinda pleased to know that I don't need to buy a new comp, but also a little frustrated that it appears I've hit the "playable' limit of my city, and even a new PC won't help. :( do love this game, but wish it was optimised to take advance of current hardware..... it could easily be pushed 10 past where its at. ... ,:( not even looked if its coming but let's hope skylines 2 takes all this into account

One of the things I do, I build a lot of Japanese themed cities. So when it comes to trees I also use the same Tree Cluster mod Low LOD for filling in forested areas, and when doing things like Temples or parks I'll use some of the nicer Cherry Blossum aka Sakura Trees sparingly, and then use the less intensive Low Poly Low LOD trees that only really pop if you get closer to them, it increased my performance by a ton doing that. Also I'm not big on adding a ton of props like AC Units or fancy Neon signs etc and stuff to the tops of buildings or in entertainment areas, UNLESS it's a building that I really like and will spend a lot of time around for viewing purposes.

Yes! There are mods to remove street props, or shiny shops doodads, those gain fps, and also help with clarity of the streets to setup lanes and arrows. another mod removes decoration sprites in the fields like grass and rocks, the game looks better without. Also if you have a map you want to play, but it's too heavy in assets required and has too much trees, open it in editor, remove all that applies, re-connect the bridges, use the trees you want, save it and play it, the gain is HUGE.

2500 assets, 16Gb , smooth fps. More tips:
    - Have custom 'Rico Revisited' and 'AVO' settings for all buildings (-homes) and cars (+cargo limit) to reduce the number of agents in the simulation.
Copy the text if you're wary. Remove parenthesis: *gofile(.)io/d/oXRtGV*
    - Replace most smaller mods with fewer updated mods. Like 'prop remover', 'No radioactive', 'Pollution, crime etc remover', 'roadsign remover', 'No seaguls' with 'Hide it' and 'Rico revisited' (to remove pollution) instead. 'Random Tree Rotation' with 'Tree Movement Control'. Less Mb, less active code (generally speaking. Some mods like TMPE or PO are really power hungry).
    - Replace Trees and buildings with packs sharing texture or mesh. Only use light trees for outside areas, like 'Oak tree lowpoly' or 'Small trees cluster'.
    - Create collections and unsubscribe to unused assets and mods (Search 'The Mighty 16Gb' to find my collections in the Workshop and see how to organise yours).

    • @alohatigers1199

There is no better optimization. This is how game design works.
You want 1440p graphics OR 120 FPS performance? You can’t have both.
You want to run 100+ mods & 1,000+ assets OR 120 FPS performance? You can’t have both.
      There’s always a catch 22.
Unless companies design innovative PC hardware/software that CAN... I don’t know how though. Who CAN? OR maybe companies should create an Innovate Game Engine that CAN, I don’t know if it’s possible.
Because games will always be 4k capped at 60 FPS.
Edit: 100+ mods & 1,000+ assets, and you’re using 32GB, that’s impossible. And you’re expecting to make it possible? What logic is this?

I have an SSD (both NVMe and SATA 3) along with a hard drive and I've spent countless hours testing to see what works best.
An interesting discovery that I've made is that an HDD that isn't running windows runs much much quicker than one with windows - so say if you have a spare HDD that has nothing on it and you install the game there, it'll actually load a lot much quicker than if it had windows. So if you're already running an SSD then that's fine.

That's not way to do this in windows or in the game, only a few mods will give you 5% or 10% maximum performance increase. The game engine is super limited and this will only be different in the future cities skylines game

now you have finished miami i have an idea for a new series, try to build an european city, not like skibitth (french city) but a mediterranean city (portugal, spain, italy, greek, or maybe tunisia, egypt or israel. It could be very cool and beautiful to watch

my game literally averages 20-30 fps on an EMPTY map with an RTX 4070ti with 32gb ram and 8 core cpu.
And the funny part is the game doesn't even use anything above 15% of any, it even uses only 3gb of ram.
This is the same performance I got with my old 4gb rx 570, 8gb ram and 4 core cpu.

I think the biggest problem of this game is about badly optimized RAM usage. I bought last year 32 gigs just for running this game and now I am almost at the limit once again with 1300 workshop addons (idk why Loading Screen Mod says they're about 4200 tho). I mean come on...

Either you want 1440p graphics or 120 FPS performance.
Either you want 100+ mods & 10,000 assets or 120 FPS performance. You can’t have both. You can’t have ALL OF THEM.
      *There’s always a catch 22.*
Unless companies design innovative PC hardware/software that CAN... I don’t know how though. Who CAN? OR maybe companies should create an Innovate Game Engine that CAN, I don’t know if it’s possible.
Because games will always be 4k capped at 60 FPS.
      There is no better optimization.

The real question is. Why won’t the game run all cores of the CPU? I got 10 core 20 thread CPU with 32 GB OF 3400 MHz ram, an nvme ssd, and an RTX 3090 and the game won’t run more then like 4 cores at 50%-75% and can get past 70 FPS when zoomed in on a busy section. Plus the GPU is barely being used at all

Can you please answer my questions here?
    1. I Dont have any mods, assets, etc i dont even downloaded it!
    2. i have clean my laptop almost every minute to see that there is no malwares or viruses on my pc.
    3. And for yall information, this citie sksylines is the ONLY GAME I INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP.
    4. And for yall inforamtion too, the Laptop's GB is 930 GB while the USED GB is only 143 GB which means i have 786 FREE GB.
    5. this game is the Only App that has the largest GB. all apps here mostly dfrom the laptop itself is only at 200 MB BELOW.
    so why it's still SLOW?
in my own, i just decrease my resolution and color correction but still it is Too laggy.
EDIT: when i even play this game, i CLOSE ALL RUNNING APPS IN THE BACKGROUND. i EVEN open Task Manager and END TASK the applications that run even if i closed it.

You would think, but i've seen users do benchmarks on cities skylines and majority of the time this game doesn't seem to utilize the power of higher end GPUs like you'd think. Unless the new 3000 series Nvidia cards have corrected this and the game will unlock the full potential of the 3000 series GPUs and the new AMD 6000 series.

The problem is not engine. They used Unity for this but the version they used is extremely old, back to the time when Unity only used single core, that's where the actual problem is. I am actually surprised why they didn't port it to Unity 5, which now supports multi core processing.
