    Thank you so very much for this, I knew the way you explained it that it must be possible ( being self-employed or a freelancer), to also qualify but your video is the first to explain the steps. Muito Obrigato !! : )

    I didn't find anything called freelance or self-employed in any official Portuguese government website, but if you already have an NIF and a residency, things will be very easy to be a trabalhador independente in Portugal. I registered as a trabalhador independente in Portugal by myself. Initiate your activity on the website of finance (annual turnover under 10,000 euros are exempted from VAT) and they will send you a confirmation letter to your address. Then you will pay IRS based on the turnover of the previous year and the type of your activity. With the proof of trabalhador independente, you can choose to make social security contributions (the first 12 months after you start your activity is exempted) by applying for a social security number.

      Marleen, thank you for the info. I was going to ask, does the visa/consulate require the monthly proof of income to go into your Portugal bank account? It sounds like it does. If I am doing that monthly for a year, would that be enough? I just want to make sure I don't get denied for something as simple as having the monthly payments into the wrong account. If I need to be making those payments now about a year and a half out of when I plan to move, I should start now!

    Hi Cindy,
    I’m not sure why I thought you’d be retiring. I’m in the U.S. and I thought with the D7 visa, as long as you can show money to support yourself (living out of personal means) then that could replace the passive income requirement. I was hoping the funds from the sale of my house will be okay as proof because I won’t have passive income in the beginning. And, like you, no retirement money for several years. Well, I only have 4 more days to go before the last day of school so I’ll have to start my research over. Thanks for sharing this information.

    • @CindyVine
      @CindyVine  3 роки тому +2

      I'm retiring from teaching in a school, but I have to keep on doing some kind of work to generate an income. I think if you have your Portuguese bank account with a lump sum in and you get monthly payments paid in from your US bank with your house proceeds in, you might be okay for a D7 visa. I don't have that option which is why I had been stressing.

      Hi
      I’ve had emails going between myself and the Portuguese consulate in the U.K. to get a bit more clarity on what is needed as I found the internet had a few grey areas. They have been a great help. Still have to submit my D7 temp (120 day)application tho but it’s a lot clearer now. I only have monies from the sale of my house , no income if I move and they said should be sufficient but the final decision lays with SEF once in Portugal when you apply for residency after obtaining the temp visa. Not sure how the US works but worth giving the consulate a try beforehand for info.
      I’m hoping to move Sept time 🌞🌞🌞

    Our situation is slightly different. My husband owns his own business doing mobile Auto Body work. We'd love to move to Portugal and him keep doing the same work. So he's self employed but would need to start a new business in Portugal. Is this the same route?

    • @CindyVine

      You have to be in Portugal to apply. You go online and complete an expression of interest and then you wait approximately 2 years for the interview. You can stay in Portugal during that time, traveling in and out with a Schengen visa. I'm in that 2 year wait at the moment.

  • @marcusgaius

    Hello Cindy. Thank you for the great video, your experience is quite a resource!
    I am having a question in regards to residence permit, to which I'm unable to find a clear answer: having entered Portugal on a Schengen type C visa (90/180 rule), assuming I have set up my business, have my residence, and everything else is by the book - when I apply with the SEF, do I need to leave Portugal if the process is not finished within those 90 days, as it's very likely to be the case? Or does the submission grant some type of temporary residence permit beyond the 90 days?

    • @CindyVine
      @CindyVine  2 роки тому +2

      From what I understand, but I might be wrong, the submission allows you to stay until it's through.
