@@harrycarter1722 - Big Rodders in Ireland here. This song was first recorded by Lead Belly in 1933 and has been covered by all major country/blues stars ever since.
Well I’m 81 years old and never heard of him till now. Very many thanks to Utube because without you I would have missed one of the best singers I have ever heard.
Geez whiz what a great version! The yodel is a great touch and his voice is so clear….I used to watch him when I worked at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton…he was older and had the seasoned approach of a true pro. Later I learned he was known as Montana Slim south of the border and Wilf Carter in Canada….who else has two names for his professional life as a singing Cowboy…..thanks to who ever posted this!
Good job, have you got the following songs by Wilf Carter, When it’s apple blossom time in Annapolis Valley, Big Rock Candy Mountain, Blue Canadian Rockies, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair and the 1967 version of I’m gonna ride to heaven on a streamlined train please? I have enjoyed listening to Wilf Carter since I was about 3 years old.
Bought every song in a giant box-set. The western sound found firtile ground in the 30's and this Canadian (who called himself Montana Slim) and Australian broke into that market in a big way..
? Just who was the gal , everybody seems to know , and can say good night and be in her dreams ? i grewd up with such songs in rapid city/black hills much country before rock and roll.. early on i started up use faze, ' i shall see you in my dreams.; but is this a lil bit intrusive ?
No electric instruments, no amplification, just a voice and a band. Nothing beats this, thanks for posting.
lucky for us the electric music exists too.
Probably over 100 amplifiers used to get it to you. Including six or so in the box you heard it on.

Different names in Canada and the UD. Simple. Probably has outstanding warrants in both countries.
I'm now 77 . I grew up hearing this song . My dad sang it often to my mom . Her name ( I Ree )
😄
This was my father’s favourite singer of all times and we still have a fair collection of Wilf’s old 78 records and LP’s as well!

Sounds like this was the inspiration for Johnny Cash’s version of this great song. JC didn’t have the yodel though.
Loved this when I had a crush on a fellow 9 year old lass in my class called Irene.
Really nice rendition.

Que bonitas melodías y maravillosa voz la del señor, la música autoctona del oeste de USA, siempre me ha gustado
Think of the Carter family musicians, Mother Maybelle Carter and the rest of of this really tal ented family.
