@TheLokCheung We spoke last week in Traflagar Sq when I saw you filming your review of this camera. You said, "we're not having this conversation about this camera in my hand that doesn't exist." Needless to say I didn't break your/fuji's embargo. It really is a small camera.
A camera without IBIS is not for vloggers though. It feels like they are releasing these half-featured models at high prices to charge more for normal models that used to cost about the same.
i don't understand this either. it feels like they assume content creators don't value IBIS so they can't charge for it. maybe sell em a better camera later once they realize..
X-M5 looks like a solution for filling the entry level camera gap because of the high demand and pricing increase of current X-mount cameras. I think relatively cheaper / smaller mirrorless camera body doesn't mean aim for vlogging, it still depends on functions left are good enough for vlogging or not. For example, Lumix S9 previously got tight recording limit, but aimed for vlogging make no sense. (Limit unlocked by new firmware updated) IBIS / EIS proofed to be an important feature for vlogging, and for Fujifilm, I don't think users mainly buy them because of video purpose. Still photography with film stimation filters, are still what their customers mainly aim for.
I think they need good pancake lens for pocketable camera. People want to buy a small and lightweight camera because portable size, easy to carry anywhere
Very exciting! Great to see Lok reviewing this!! One important clarification regarding price. Afaik, UK price includes tax, US price does not which is why it seems lower (this is because the norm in the US is for retailers to list price before tax since tax varies per state-sometimes even within a state)
Everyone saying "no EVF and no IBIS no buy", but a high-MP compact body with good photo features is still a very desirable niche that isn't being very well served right now. M43 bodies have gotten huge, the Ricoh GR IV is coming just as soon as fusion power is, and Sony hasn't followed up the 5100 or the RX-1-R II-...R. What Fuji just gave us is a current-gen 26MP sensor, more physical, photo-oriented controls than you get on a Sony delivery of the same specs, active 1st-party APS-C lens support, and film sim. It's a nice body for beginners and it's a nice enough body for a more serious photographer to put their favorite compact prime on and do some street or everyday pocket camera work. Fuji's market goal was clearly to deliver a
It's a little odd. They already have several model lines of smaller cameras. Sure the X100VI is expensive, but what of the X-E series? Basically the same form factor minus the mode dial. Just checked online and it doesn't look like they offer a model in that line anymore. So is Fuji moving away from it's triangle system to the PASM paradigm?
The x100vi isn’t interchangeable lens so if you don’t like 35mm equivalent focal lengths then you’re kind of out of luck. The conversion lenses for it are pretty good (can’t resolve 48mp though) but they make the camera much larger than the xs5 with a 35mm f2. Also people still aren’t really able to get x100vi, you could get an xs5 and a lens for much less than an x100vi. I love my x100v but the idea that it’s a perfect camera for everyone is silly, it was considered a pretty niche camera until it blew up on TikTok for whatever reason.
As a small travel camera I like the idea of it. The price and features make it a solid option for anyone who is looking for something they don't want to baby as its cheaper then a phone if you break it or get robbed. Paired with the new Smallrig L-Grip will make it better for bigger hands and allow you to use arca swiss while being able to change batteries. They also make aftermarket batteries for these with integrated USB-C charging, so that keeps everything small and manageable.
well, i just preorder one. So i guess I like it :D I never do that, but Fuji sometimes you miss the preorder and it's months of wait. Am I crazy? Nobody else making small, affordable 26MP camera that include two dials for aperature/shutter control ..
Hi Lok, i have an iphone 16 pro max and has a great camera. I do street photography as a hobby is the fujifilm worth getting if i already have a great camera?
I recommend the Panasonic Lumix GH5 with the 12-32mm lens. Your getting a bigger camera, but WAY better stabilization, EVF, better video features, and lots of other stuff. You just lose the 6k opengate but honestly the gh5 just is better in lots ways. I'd get a GH5/
Very low resolution screen for something that doesn't have a viewfinder. Also flip vlog screen vs the favoured tilt screen, I don't see many people using this as a vlog & I still don't like the film simulation dial when it could be used for something far more useful like ISO/shutter speed Love the look and size of it yet that's about it sadly otherwise I'd pre-order
The lack of ibis is a major issue for it being positioned as a vlogging camera. It always feels like these clogging cameras come out nearly perfect but always miss some massive feature like the ibis. The camera shoots 6k open gate but that footage is going to be incredibly shaky unless it’s on a gimbal or if you’re using one of their older lenses with OIS. They don’t really put OIS in their new lenses.
The screen is disappointingly low-resolution, and the only way to compose the image. In the US the X-T30 II (same processor, but with a finder) costs the same amount. Plus Canon has a (slightly larger) competitor in the R50 that's a lot cheaper. This product does not make sense at this price.
I have the same feeling. Well not necessarily full frame but I’m starting to get confused, what’s the different between X-M and X-A? What about X-S and X-T200? X-T50 and X-T30?
Olympus Pen E-P7, small lighter and much much better Ibis. Oh and maybe cheaper lenses. IF you dont care having an external mic with recorder and somewhat less bokeh.. There is also the possibility for color tweaking in camera.
so... no stabilization, and once you put a mic, you cannot actually hold the camera. Me not understand; if you are going to stick it on a tripod or gimbal, why so tiny?
Hey, at least it has digital image stabilisation right? (with a crop ofcourse). But in the current world of fujifilm being seriously overpiced, it is super capable for being their entry level X series camera with the famous film sims!
I'm not a content creator so it doesn't appeal to me. I have a 10 year old Samsung nx500 and I wanted to upgrade but, as far as I can see, this is no better for photography.
i hope you reminded them about the af problem anf i belive they need to focus on making a new and better hardware or else fuji might end up like kodake lmfao.
No good for me I'm afraid. No good having a small body camera coupled with a large out-of-scale lens and there are few suitable pancakes for this. No IBIS, no flash and no EVF - it's more of an X-A6 than anything else. It is too expensive and under-specified. It just is NOT special. I am so disappointed - where is the X-E5?
Even cheapish phones under 300usd have much better stabilization and some of them have a lock on a horisont so it doesn't matter how you turn your phone, image stays upright. And cameras are not bad, you don't need an iphone... lol
Rico Gr senza mirino ed è veramente tascabile . Parere personale due cose a sbagliato Fuji su questa macchina ; non mettere la stabilizzazione per chi fa video e il mirino .
This happens to every single cameras, even back with magazines before UA-cam. Each camera has an official launch date, nobody can show anything about it before, not the shops, not Amazon. So of course every UA-camrs, bloggers, dpreview, B&H, Amazon etc release a new camera at the same date and time. The only different for magazines is that they have different publishing schedules.

Now this should be a homerun for Panasonic, make a similar sized GX9II with both ibis and a viewfinder.
6K open gate on a camera under$1000 is mind blowing. Sony needs to get their shit together.
Not really, because 4k with great autofocus is more important
Lacking a viewfinder and ibis is a no from me big dawg. Looks cool though.

"as soon as fusion power" made me laugh. well done
I like a viewfinder, I like IBIS on my M43 cameras; to be honest, the 'mushy' rear dial bothers me more than either of those things on this camera.
They really need a wide stabilized prime for video, or a wide to normal zoom 😢
Weird not having the dial doing camera setting instead of film simulation. Diff body has diff dial. It is confusing
How does it compare with the Lumix S9
Another great video from Lok. Thanks for sharing.👍👍
The digital IBIS does not really look that smooth. Do you have the same feeling?

Love the “mushy” description!
what color does everyone prefer? black or silver?
I wish they would just make a shoe mount evf like sony did back in the day i want the S9 now that it has no time limit but ugh,,, no VF
Why is an $800 camera $1040 (£800 GBP) in the UK? Is the USA price without sales tax or something?
In my experience US prices are indeed quoted without sales tax - because it varies from state to state.
I want to know will it give the same ISH image quality as the x100vi?
When you have gimbal who need IBIS... Great all in one camera!
Is it compatible with the ATOMOS Ninja or BM Video Assist to record HDMI externally?
It would be better if they updated the xe-1 without changing the sensor to a new one, I only like the first sensor on the xe-1 and pro-1
Updates on X-E line?
Ideal for hiking
