Yup, I got trolled again....was thinking you were actually gonna start this one this time. So 18th it is haha
Thanks for saying now i can skip the vid
Got to milk the series just a little bit longer, also thanks for the heads up.
@@KutreeZ Yea should have seen it coming...this is how its done for all the rebuild series in the past
Got me too...
Grrrrrrrr
NOOOOO!! I can’t wait anymore to hear that beast!
That was soo dirty move :D
Get's me every time.
Davin, you devil ! Yes, I was screamin’ at you « c’mon man, get the damn thing started ! ». Well, ok, see you Dec 15...
Errr, the 18 !
You got to be an idiot like me if you thought he was gonna start it in this video
"Our Buick Straight 8 goes on the test stand!" Where did it say "hear it run/fire up?"
Audience: We assumed............
Davey: Suckers!!
That’s ok. They have one running at Cold War motors boys. A Packard straight eight too.
Damn right. Just go watch the straight 8 showdown on the channel
Beer And Bacon : And we didn’t have to wait for months and wade through a million ads to see the results either!!
From Rhode Island-These old school engine builds are great because the magic comes from a machine-not-a computer-and as such-it's a much more organic experience. Big props guys for paying homage to where it all began. Look forward to more.
The messing up makes this series more believable and relatable.
I sure wouldnt think it would be a good idea to lift that thing by the generator
Ohh come on! I really thought you gonna start it.
Actually its a wonderfull motor and I cant wait to see it in action!
The size of that engine is impressive. Looking forward to seeing it run!
Guess I better get in the shop, at least there I'll see something start up. Even if it is a brand new thing I didn't build.
This channel deserves a Discovery Turbo program.
I totally agree, but they have stupid shows like that Roadkill.
@@davidjenkins1958 True
My family had a '47 Century with dual carb's. My dad had an Exhaust Shop split the exhaust manifold with w 3/4 block. It ran good and we kept it until 1965 when it was sold to a Buick dealer as a show room prize.
I enjoy watching these motors being put back together and running again. I get to see all the different types and how they are and learn a lot.
Damn Davin, you’re killing me!! As a ‘55 Buick Century owner (322 nailhead) I was dying to see the old Buick straight 8 fire up!!! Suckered me again. The 18th??? Come on. Tell your post production guys to get their butts in the shop and get their work done. 😁
Davin!, You Big TEASE! I’m Still Impressed by this Engine’s Design & by Davin’s Sexy Plug Wire Work. This is Such a Great Series & I’m Lucky to’ve Witnessed the Entire Process without Spending a Dime (if We don’t count UA-cam Premium Subscription), but Hearing a Straight 8 with Custom Headers would’ve Made Me Way Happier today....You Big Tease
I just finished building my 248ci Straight 8. So much fun!
Oh good we'll all get to relive that "master machinist" smashing the sleeves into the block and breaking them again on the 18th!
Did they ever address that in the videos?
@@PiDsPagePrototypes they did eventually address the cracked 2nd sleeve that everyone saw on the video but they've never addressed the fact that if there's a wrong way to install sleeves that machine shop nailed it
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Here's my prediction: when they get to the part where Joe "Caveman" Machinist starts smashing the sleeves into the block then Ben will say something like, "We got a lot of comments about this method of installing sleeves" to which Davin will reply, "Yeah I know but these guys have been installing sleeves this way for 30 years and it did give us the same results" or something totally ridiculous along those lines.
I think it would be best to go back to the original dynaflow transmission instead of going with a modern overdrive transmission
I can’t wait to hear it run. It looks absolutely delicious! When it was cranking though, it sounded like one cylinder was a little low on compression. Maybe a valve adjusted a bit tight? Been there, done that!
You do it to me every time and I fall for it every time. LOL I just want to hear this engine running. I've never heard a straight-8 before. Hurry up and get here December 18th!
That's a perfect engine restoration. I've got trolled again, but can't wait to hear this beast roaring.
I think it would be best to go back to the original dynaflow transmission instead of a modern transmission
I remember the early Buick automatics. We called them "Dynaflush" or "Two fans in a bucket of oil"
You have truly done her justice, Davin. That's the way a motor should be built. Nice work.
Got me! Was waiting for it to fire the whole time! Lol😂
So,sitting here with my tongue dangling out, nearly wetting myself waiting for it to start....and...dammit....🤣
Such a Beautifully restored/refurbished/rebuilt engine. I still feel Jaded that David did it to us AGAIN! Ten days and counting....Grrrrr. lol Cheers! Zip~ Oh, I'm an actual Hagerty insurance policy holder with 4 motorcycles covered by your awesome insurance. Cheers again! Zip~
I love it so much. Bringing this glorious piece of Detroit iron back to its original beauty
You're killin' me, Smalls,
And I will be on holidays on the 18th so I won't be able to watch it till after Christmas. Cheers for that.
Hey, got fooled again, but watching that beautiful Buick eight inching closer to life was worth it. I'll be waiting to hear that big fireball roar again on the18th. Keep 'em coming.
I never had seen an engine that has been restored to the fullest!😀😍😁
Dec. 18th. My 61st. birthday. That will make my day man !
No start, no thumbs up. Sorry, Davin, gotta wait til 12/18. Two can play this game. Heheh.
Of course it starts, we already watched you not start it. I bet you could drag us along another week. 👍
LUCKY on the balance its beautiful don't scratch it
My Gr12 Final exams end the 17th so atleast I have something to look forward to
Good Luck!!!
Thanks Davin and Hagerty for the great content. Wasn't sure if this one was gonna go or not!!
DAMMIT!!! GRRR!!! Wanted to see that baby RUN!! Can't wait!!
I will get out in the shop and get my work done. Cars with their hands out demanding my attention.
Man!!! Didn’t think he’d do that...But I guess I gotta wait till the 18th! Great job on the straight 8!! Been watching since day one! Looking forward to the time lapse!
O no!, So a beautiful monster and you make me to wait !
"GIMME FUEL, GIMME FIRE, GIMME THAT WHICH I DESIRE!"
Metallica
Damn, I was really looking forward to hearing the straight 8 run!
One of the main tricks in firing up and up a new engine is this prime the carburetor check to see the accelerator pump is working and set your engine on the timing mark you needed to be and when the points barely open or use a light you have the engine perfectly timed and if you've done your valve adjustment correctly then baby should far off the first time and then you break in the cam pre-adjust the carburetor makes life easier I love cracking over new engines I learned this trick from doing VW engines you'll learn a lot PS never pump a carburetor engine even fuel injection you'll flood the engine with the carburetor while cranking it pump a couple times then crank it over void washing the rings with gasoline it's called flooding the engine
Ahh , I just knew it .. Every time ! That's ok .. You know I watch every share .. Thanks & ENJOYED !!
Arrgh. Serialized engine rebuilds. One thing though the time lapse is always worth waiting for. :)
Davin is such a badass! Totally fell for it. Again.
You're such a tease Davin!
The fireball looks magnificent! Another over the top job!
Having owned a 1948 Buick Road Master Convertible many years ago, I never had the pleasure of working on it, but appreciate the unique characteristics of a Straight-8. The car sat in a warehouse in T or C, NM from 1965 to 1989, and ended up being sold to a collector in Southern California.
I like positive energy
see if I say this correctly - to my understanding, early Dynaflows (1948-early 50s) in essence were 2-speed torque converter automatic transmissions, but without any automatic control of gear shifting. "First gear" was engaged only by driver selection of "L" on the shift quadrant, and was meant for engine braking or extra hill-climbing/acceleration. In normal driving you were expected to stay in "Second" gear all the time, and depend only on torque converter slip (which there was a lot of). As a boomer child I remember hearing plenty of Buick engine "hoot" noise as they drove away from stops.
the moment i heard the baffled cumbustion I knew it was timing.
Just imagine if Chrysler or GM were to make a modern straight 8. Silky smooth, and with a overhead cam valvetrain rev to 8k 🤔🤯
Keep it up Davin.
Cool, it should sound real good.
Very cool project
Ayyyyyy Dec18 is my birthday 😁 Nice timing
You guys got me again
That's a beautiful job, too nice to run!
This is exactly how C. Brown must feel every time Lucy offers to hold the football just so, in order for him to kick it. Laying on his back, staring into the sky, pissed off at himself for believing that "this was it". Oh, I'll be here on the 18th, I may just stare into my phone until then, don't know yet....
I have to say I learned a lot from this engine video build..👍
Nice build
Ouch that got me! I'll tune in on the 18th, gotta see it run!
I love these videos of the Buick straight-8 this is cool.. have a good Christmas looking forward to the next video hopefully the final one on the straight eight.. what I'm looking for is a cool build after Christmas.. enjoy your show
i have been a professional transmission rebuilder for 40+ tears. i just retired, but every now and then i build one here and there. just built a 700R4 for a man who is putting it in a 39 chevy. the dyno flow was similar to the stinking CVT (constant velocity transmission) in that it didn't automatically shift, it worked with a fluid coupling and planetary gearsets to provide the torque multiplication for acceleration, that is a turbo 300 2sp. trans case you have bolted to the motor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Maaan ya got me! I've been wanting to hear what kinda sound these things make for what feels like a year now.
You dogg beautiful engine can't wait to hear it run
Ah man you’re killing me 😀👍😀😀
Dammit! I fell for it, again...
Davin, you Magnificent Bastard!
OK, I'll wait till the 18th, but DAMN that thing is a beauty.
Davin you tease!!! lol. Can't wait till the 18th. Stay safe, guys!
Dude!!!!!!!! Killin me!😎
December 12... u got me hooked.
Yeah, that transmission definitely does not look like it belongs on that engine. Look forward to it running next time.
I am a Buick person and wow you got me I was all set to hear a fireball 8 fire up. The anticipation. Well till then I will listen to the sounds of my 70 455 stage 1 beast
Glad you lock tighted the flex plate bolts. I didn't on the last transmission swap and the flywheel bolts worked their way out. When I was investigating the knocking noise from the new transmission, I found 1 bolt was just hanging on by a thread, one was real loose and the last was finger tight. Edit changed "flywheel" to "flex plate"
love these guys
I only had one comment at the end ..."you bastard!" .... lol... love the series, but was expecting at least a little backfire up the carbs....
When as a teenager I started tinkering with engines, I installed a distributor 180 degrees out of time. Backfired through the carb like a shotgun. Didn’t hear nothing from his engine.
You probably won't need the chokes but if you do it would be a good idea to disconnect the chokes until it fires. That's what I have to do with my old Chevy truck that I fire up once a month. I keep a battery minder on it but the carbs empty when it sits for a month.
Fireball, fun for all!
100% got me again!
As I watch these videos on the straight 8. It’s is easy to see why the V8 became prevalent. Much more compact. The first car I drove was a 51 Buick. So quiet and reliable. Great cars.
You know after working on cars for a long time. The sign of the timing being way out is pretty recognizable. I may have just guessed, but when you were cranking it that’s what it sounded like. Great job on this engine btw and if you do everything, every mistake will be yours. But that’s better than the alternative of figuring out someone else’s mess.
Lay the EZ STAND on the floor and drop the motor on it 😉
Saves a lot of time that way.
Aaah come on! I want to see that engine start! I cannot wait to december 18th
Cannot wait for December 18th then. What an epic and exhaustive journey it must have been lol
This guy should have a TV show!
i knew it.... I knew it Davin 😂 u can't troll me twice.... see ya soon and appreciate your work 👏🏻
Nooo how can you do this to me? I was hoping to see it up and running in this video :c More with the last shot .. you are evil haha until the next update!
I had a 51 Buick Special. with a Dynaflow. Was interesting to say the least. Kinda automatic is a good description.
cool, after the electoral college votes...
Great video like always. 6BT cummins weighs in at 1100lbs dry. They have factory lift points with a couple 9/16" bolts in back and the front thermostat housing. Probably could have lifted from a exhaust manifold stud and a hoisting ring in back and a strap on the water pump casting. Just my $.2
Oh. Come on man... don't leave us hanging..😎😎
18th then?, At least there wasn't a "connecting the hoses" & "filling the oil" videos
I Can Not Wait See you then Thank you
Guys, you should rebuild Cadillac V16 engine one day...
Awwww mannnnn, that's JIIIIVE!!! 😄😄😄😄😄😄 looking forward to hearing it run. Never heard a straight 8 before.
Alright you got me, see you on the 18th
It would be cool to see you guys rebuild a v12 lincoln zephyr
This show is reality , this show is what actually happens , not all fluff and editing .
I really dig this project! I like how you show the mistakes with, the triumphs along the way. Very real to us regular enthusiasts with our projects. You should have your own show on Motor Trend network! Good stuff!
Come on Davin. We want to hear that engine!
