@@LGR My guess is it will be a soft reboot like you say but as something closer to a live service style game - New expansions, etc will instead be free updates and the main revenue stream will be people paying the upfront cost of buying the game alongside a storefront selling new content for the game ala The Sims 3's store. More than likely the updates will have a relative lack of content to make use of the new features with the idea being that you instead buy that content on the storefront, although I have little doubt the community will step in so you can easily just wait a month or two and get a load of modder-made content for free instead. The whole expansion thing as EAxis does it currently is a bit of a weakness with the competition coming out to be honest, assuming Paradox does a Cities Skylines-style DLC release schedule for their game then I can see an approach like I've theorised above actually giving EAxis a leg up.
@@terryberry38 Specifically, the gurus have said it's _"the next generation Sims game and creative platform.”_ Read their wording carefully :) They specifically have not said "The Sims 5" or anything like that. The team has been quite careful, yet vague, in all of their descriptions and phrasing. It will almost certainly be the fifth mainline Sims game, but I just don't know that it will be specifically be called The Sims 5. I personally feel they may go for a soft reboot of the series to start "fresh" and not have the baggage of being a sequel, exactly. I can see them calling it "Sims" or even "The Sims" again, theoretically resetting the stage and introducing a new online-focused simming platform for content to be added to over the next decade or so. It certainly falls in line with the current trends of game design and monetization, both at EA and other big publishers. They've also described how a big focus of Project Rene is to allow other players online to drop in and out of your game at will, and that you go from playing on your PC to playing on a phone seamlessly. So while I'm admittedly reading between the lines, it kinda feels more like a reboot/refresh of the series rather than a straight-up sequel to The Sims 4.

Been watching you for years this is how I decide which packs I want to buy, since Sims 3. THANK YOU for your detailed reviews and the time you take out to edit.
The thing that got me the most excited about this new pack/update is that social interactions are now grouped by subcategories. Like, if I want my Sim to hug someone, I don't have to click through like 6-7 pages of friendly interactions anymore; now it's just Friendly > Affection > Hug.
@@Paramore_your_Decode Yes, but mind you, it's neither a CAS wearable nor a Build Mode object; it works similar to umbrellas, in that you select and use them through options while in Live Mode. Then, to use the back carrier, click on your infant, then select "Baby Care > Put [Infant's name] in Back Carrier".
@@Paramore_your_Decode Yeah, the free update is *very* barebones... it just adds a basic bed for infants, and that's it. These sorts of things are really must have Expansion Packs. It actually changes gameplay in many ways on a core level because of the way traits are aquired and changed and the relationships system. Plus it's just cute. I honestly think this one's worth the price, which is very rare in Sims 4.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on some other upcoming life sims! The sims is in dire need of a proper competitor, and I'd love to see one of them really take off.
I mean, Life By You doesn't look like much for now. People are excited to try an alternative to the Sims and that's understandable, but we just don't know much about it.
@@Ezullof They did show off stuff a bit ago. Already better than Sims 4 base game. Open world, active careers, switching people on the fly with no loading screens, dynamic and readable conversations. In game tools to make new content like mods, lots, conversations, careers, etc. There are cars, bikes, motorcycles, and skateboards. Swimming in the ocean and a beach. The thing is built for modders and modding. I'd say they so far have proven their worth. More so than The Sims 4 Growing Together which is indeed a $40 Game Pack/Paid Free Update.
I'm so disillusioned with EA's stripping back of each new sims game to re-sell what they should have included from the release of the game. Especially with them giving us piece meal stuff packs and expansions that shouldn't be broken up.

Hey LGR, have you seen that there is a pixel-styled life sim coming out soon? its called Tiny Life, and is made in the spirit of the Sims 1. Would highly recommend checking that one out!!
I have been waiting for this review and I'm not disappointed by the honesty. The social interactions and milestones should have been a free base game update. This pack is also not as fleshed out as Generations, but that's what I've come to expect with TS4. I'll purchase this expansion on sale for Black Friday and be happy with the content when it costs only $20 instead of $40.
i wish we had more playground equipment 😔i wanted sandboxes, seesaws, trampolines, slides and pool slides, spring riders, and merry-go-rounds! maybe even those cute plastic outdoor houses your child sims and younger could play in. i could see why they wouldn't be able to add those, though, because they'd have the same functunality as the tent from dream home decorator. speaking of pool slides, they need to overhaul the pools and give them more funcunality! we need curved pools and pool upkeep and maintenance! imagine if pools got dirty like in the sims freeplay and you had to clean them, or if you could upgrade your pools and heat them in the winter!
Ah brilliant! Another LGR Sims pack review to add to my monthly playlist. I don't know why your content is so satisfying to listen to, but it just is, even if I know what's in it. And of course it's a 100% _necessary_ re-watch when I'm looking for packs to buy. Everything said is there for a reason, it all helps understand the pack and its place in the game, it's perfect.

@@tegandetermann3299 there's other simmers that I enjoy but for some reason their reviews I just can't trust. Is that weird?
@@thechandraraj6415 Not at all. Particularly with the smaller more positive channels. "Game Changer" status is always a potential that could unintentionally influence what the say in a review, even if you like their video style. At least, that's how I feelm
@@tegandetermann3299 i trust game changers opinion on sims packs about 3 weeks later, especially Plumbella, her first video on a pack is always positive, but as time goes on the more videos she releases, she gets more and more honest, by then she's ripping EA a new one for all the shit they do
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Clint actually did have some sort of partnership with EA for a while related to his Sims videos, but then they actually dropped him for not kissing their ass.
How many years has it been of LGR reviewing Sims stuff? It is amazing that he continues to do them and still being as entertaining, just, kudos to you man, you are one of a kind.
I think it would be fully in-character for EA to release this now, and then announce Sims 5 at E3 that dials everything back to the base game.
They already announced The Sims 5. It's a few years out though
@@BlckSWANWhtRbbt Or whatever _Project Rene_ ends up being called. I'm still not convinced it'll be "The Sims 5," my money is on a soft reboot of the franchise.
always online microtransaction heavy i can see it now.
@@terryberry38 Specifically, the gurus have said it's _"the next generation Sims game and creative platform.”_ Read their wording carefully :)
They specifically have not said "The Sims 5" or anything like that.

An LGR Sims review? It's been 83 years...
Ugh, Paralives and Life by you can't come soon enough. Thanks for the quality review as always.
For having been around in 23 years, I am amazed how little progress The Sims have made. I mean progress have been made but...

I'm more amazed how people are hyping this and not more upset about a pay wall for gameplay that was free in base games in last two games
Sims 2 and 3 were both noticeable progressions over their predecessor. Sims 4 was a regression.

It's good to see people actually playing Sims, unlike me who is perpetually stuck in build mode.
Oh same. They nailed build mode in TS4, but I cannot bring myself to actually play. The itch is scratched by TS2 and 3 where I can build and l play!
Sims 4 just a building/interior design sim at this point. I have a feeling sims 5 will be ever more like that as well sadly.
Does back carrier come with this expansion?
@@Paramore_your_Decode Yes, but mind you, it's neither a CAS wearable nor a Build Mode object; it works similar to umbrellas, in that you select and use them through options while in Live Mode.

@@KittyMeow1984 Oh dang... sad I don't have that expansion :( but thanks!! now I know it's not included in the free update..

Every time I get notifications from your Sims uploads, I know I’m in for a treat, regardless if the pack is trash or not.
