So season 5 of Justified is interesting. Sadly, in between this season and the previous one, creator Elmore Leonard passed away from a stroke (he was actually writing a new book that was going to feature Raylan). So this first episode of the season, with Raylan going down to Florida and Boyd and Wynn going to Detroit, was the show's writer's way of honoring Leonard whose two favorite locations to set his stories were Detroit and Florida. And the Crowe family appear in several Leonard stories.
I always wanted Raylan to say this:
"I know Darrell pretty well."
"What, are you? His girlfriend?"
"Sister."
"That doesn't answer my question."
The two-gun thugs at the beginning of Episode 2 are playing brothers in that episode and are real-life brothers Steve Harris and Sherwin Harris.
Darryl Crowe is played by Michael Rapaport of "True Romance", "Metro", "Spike Lee's Bamboozled", and "Copland".
And the other guy who got killed played Lt. Randy Disher from "Monk". Too bad he didn't last longer.
Dewey Crowe has one of the funniest moments in the first episode
This season gets shit but more Dewey and more Duffy = a good time
Dave Foley was the guy with Will Sasso. He recently was in the fifth season of Fargo: The Series. That's worth reacting to.
The guy with Wood Harris (Avon) is his real-life brother, Steve, who was a regular on the legal drama, "The Practice".
Foley and Stephen Root (Judge Reardon) were long time co stars on News Radio
Alicia Witt (Wendy Crowe) was Alia Atreides in the 1984 version of Dune that you watched last week
and a looney love interest for Charlie on "Two and a half men". She is a good comedic crazy.
My favorite new character is definitely Alicia Witt as Wendy Crowe

My favorite new character introduced this season is Carl. He's one of the best and most loyal members of Boyds crew throughout the series.

Ron Yuan, also played Prince Nayan in the 2nd season of Marco Polo on Netflix, another great show!
Kinda funny that Dewey was playing marco polo in the pool in the same episode where Yuan starred 😅
Ron was also in "Sons Of Anarchy". His brother, Roger, is an martial artist and stunt coordinator and has appeared in movies like "Shanghai Noon" and "Black Dynamite" and TV shows like "Nash Bridges" and "Angel".
The Eva in jail storyline is my least favorite thing in all of Justified

Ava in jail wasn't particularly interesting. Ok, i found it tiresome. And I'm a big Justified fan.
I disagree. It was like Orange Is The New Black without the quirkiness.
Mr Tv's shirt gets two thumbs up! Such a classic game.
Season of the Crowe...love this season, with the exception of Ava's extended prison stay...every character in this series is in and out of prison faster than they can possibly be, no matter how much of a hardened criminal they are, yet somehow first-offender Ava is the only one incapable of getting out...made little sense to me. I also think it was a bit more of a disruption for the storyline this season, she was basically on her own private show, while everyone else was interacting with the main story arcs. Again...seemed off to me. But, the return of some old favorite characters, along with the crop of new ones makes this a very entertaining season IMO...I mean, come on...Michael Rapaport? What a tremendous casting...this New Yorker studied Florida accents for this role, and I think he did a pretty great job selling the part.
Well it's a setup for what happens in the next season. And honestly I think she wasn't there long enough for that drastic change.
I remember this season as being the least enjoyable. I'm interested to rewatch it and see it through your eyes.

Watching as it aired, I remember being SOOOO bummed out Michael Rapaport was cast this season, haha... That said, he does fit the character well enough. The Crowes as a whole these first two eps just seem dull -- not quite the fun bad guys we're used to in previous seasons.
It's a little off-putting with Rapaport, being Jewish and born in Brooklyn, playing Southern trash, but he's enjoyable for me.

Season 5 was my least favorite but get ready for season 6 probably the best season of television out there
Elmore Leonard, the creator of Raylan Givens, died around the time of the fifth season's airing. Justified was supposed to get a seventh season, but developer Graham Yost didn't want to go with it since Elmore was the show's north star.
S5 wast he weakest, but there are some good moments and it does progress the story as a whole. S6 was a really strong revoery and finish. I still think S2 was the best one and then it's S3 and S6 neck and neck.
@@nomadman5288 honestly I wasn't the hugest fan of season 2 don't get me wrong it is top notch television but for me it was s1 then s6 then s3 then S2 S4 than s5 and when he gets back at the undertaker In this season is probably the best of the season but I just loved the whole raylan vs boyd in s6
@@Madbandit77 in a way I would like to see a more accurate Elmore Leonard story I haven't read the books plan to I just haven't ordered them yet but correct me if I'm wrong besides the one book that this show is based on the books aren't really raylan givens books

I was about to disagree with you till I remembered the Ava in jail storyline. In a show with such great characters, she is not one of them, except the first season.
I think this is the weakest season. Still solid but the weakest.
