    This was by far the best and most complete (and good quality video) of all the instructions I found on UA-cam. A couple of things that were missed or I feel I should comment on now that I have completed the chip replacement thanks to the help of this video. Took about an hour, but I am VERY handy and worked with electronics 40 years ago. First, having an LED headlamp on my head helped a great deal with lighting. Since these screws were not massively tight, I think that using a power screwdriver is a bad idea and loses control. I used my trusty Snap on ratcheting screw driver and a Bosch P2+R2 driver bit which securely held almost all of the screws very tightly. Only needed a small Flat head for the Chip release screw and a smaller Phillips for the retaining screws for the large black connector. He did not show that the aluminum finned heat sink needed to be removed, it just vanished from the circuit board but he should have shown it being removed and it spring loaded retaining screws. He also did not show, (maybe model 65 inch Mitsubishi was slightly different?) that in order to remove the metal cover over the circuit board, two of the screws ARE NOT SCREWS they are the two screw in hex standoff on the top and bottom of the multi-pin connector in the center, as these two are also holding the cover in place. A few other things. I DID NOT flap the plastic cover backwards after removing the 2 small screws in the plastic over the glass globe. It was not in my way and I didn't want to take the chance of ripping the foam sealing material. I also did not need to remove all of the wire clips from above the circuit board, before gently flipping it up to gain access to the DLP chip. I ONLY had to remove the single one that was over the board, the one where he stopped to take a picture. I did not need a picture since it was the only clip I removed so it was obvious where it went. My TV no longer has white dots. YAY! many thanks for the excellent video and I hope my comments may further help some people who use it to replace their chips. Make sure you get the right chip, somce web sites apparently sell cheaper non OEM chips. Mine cost $183 December 2015. Thanks again for the video. David Getoff www.Naturopath4you.com

      So I followed the tutorials online to a T. My only problem was on the power board to the right of the light engine assembly. Theres 2 plugs that goto that board the yellow and black power wire and then the 5 pin (1 red 4 grey ) I accidentally pulled the pins out of the plug. Does anyone have a pinout or a way to figure this out. Can someone show me where to buy another or help. Please and thanks

    This video was SO HELPFUL!! It took me a couple of hours, start to finish, to do this job, but some of that time was spent looking for tools and A LOT of it was spent rewinding and fast forwarding your video. My TV looked exactly like yours. I did finish the job with one extra screw, but the TV works great now. Thank you thank you!

    Thank you for posting this video. You helped so many people with a common problem that would cost a lot of money to take somewhere and fix. The ones who make negative comments are just haters, you never claimed you where showing how to do it professionally and did a great job replacing the chip. Thank you for helping out so many others who wanted to learn how to do it. To ones that don't like the video and give the opinion of they could have done it better....go ahead, show us you can and submit your video......otherwise shut the f**k up and let people like this share their experience and knowledge. Again....Thank you Sir!

    I looked at this clip to fix my tv and I found it very helpful. Word of advice make sure you remember where the screws belong, use a cardboard and poke each screws into it so you don't lose them. Take the time to clean the dust from the T.V. area and if you own a air compressor or use a small brush. After installing the dlp chip and placing back every screws where they belong. I turn on the T.V. and the picture looks great.

    Actually you dont have to pull the whole light engine. just remove the metal plate with the fan and take the circuit board off and the DLP comes right off.

    Mine just went out for my Mother's TV, so I plan to replace it. The dots were getting bad, but we were just holding on. But, I am going to use your strategies and save some money. Nicer TV's have arrived, but I want to push this one as far as possible. Because Comcast cable box isn't 4k yet, so I'lll upgrade when 4k's get added to our cable box. A gain, thank you & your son for really showing us how to save money and protect our family's income. Much appreciated -- you two ... Very good job !!!

    You really need to replace the thermal paste on the heat sink for the dlp chip. Most of the time the paste is dry and flakes off when replacing the chip or gets stuck to the old chip leaving none for the new chip. With out the thremal paste the chip will over heat and brake down at a faster rate.

      Also...for safety sake (don't want to blow any other components) when working with boards you should be wearing a ground strap........just saying....static electricity .....

    @ Nancy Lund: This is exactly what just happened to us. Can't wait to hear comments. We took everything apart again and noticed a ribbon cable was torn from it's base (it connects to the board). Not sure if that was the initial problem, but now we're searching for exactly what we need to replace.

      we finally got a picture it lasted about 45 minutes to 1 hour. We were so happy....then the screen went black and the red light came on on the front of the tv and we have not been able to turn it back on. We were thinking it is a fan not cooling...Is it time for a new TV or do we keep pouring $ into this one? Anyone else with this problem? HELP!

    • @beckycarlson1957
      @beckycarlson1957 10 років тому

      Nancy Lund I have this dot problem now, which is why I am looking at this video to begin with, and I have had lamp issues. My lamp needs to get tightened every few months. There is a sensor and when my tv screen goes black the the red light appears I just tap on the outside of the lamp housing and sometimes that works. Other times I have to go in with a screw driver and tighten all the screws and it will work fine for a few more months. Maybe something just came lose when you were taking care of the first issue. My issues started 11 months ago when I replaced my lamp.

    • @nancylund2285
      @nancylund2285 10 років тому

      Yeah we tried that with the bulb, didn't work. We did speak to a guy in my area he said the Mitsubishi bands have many problems don't waste your money buying piece after piece.

    Thanks for the video. I have been reviewing many of these so I don't miss anything in the process. I would ask if you applied any heat sink paste in the reassembly as it is imperative for the long life of a new chip? Heat damage has been purported to contribute to the chip's failure, also a run of chips that had the wrong lubricant film applied to the mirrors. Just a thought, again, thank you.

    Thanks to you and your video, I was able to fix my T.V. One question though: I thought the thermal paste was dust and I scraped it off of the housing (a chunk had fallen off and was floating around already). I didn't know I was supposed to put on the thermal tape. TV is all back together and working fine. Do I need to take it apart to put on the thermal tape?

    yeah there is a tape like gum in between the chip and the heat sink some of it can get stuck to the chip when you remove the heatsink this is a heat transfer compound seen It in other videos and you didn't mention it at all which makes me think that yours came off in one piece and you didn't notice it but it's very important to mention it because without it there will be no heat transfer the chip will fail due to overheating. you can get this stuff at an electronic store don't know about Radio Shack but call different places and you'll find it

    Glad I found your video Martin. Have a 65" Mitsubishi WD 65737 with exact problem started with about 8 dots now worse to about 100 dots and a couple flashing. My first thought was dust inside TV and tried cleaning but no change. I see DLP Chip for TV runs around $180 which seems expensive for a small part but I do need it. Had to change the Lamp once which was very easy 5 minute job. I'll order part and use your video as guide and posting results. I read you need to replace the DMD/Formatter board at the same time is this true?

      Did you take pictures of the wiring connections and their proper placement? I would recheck the connectors and placement. Just a recomendation.

    I have a mitsubishi 80" that needs the dlp chip replaced, without taking the tv apart, how can i figure out the chip number that is compatible with my tv model?

      Jennifer Crawford Look for the TV model in the back as *****mentioned and search for it on Amazon it will be included in the description for my WD-65833 I used:
      www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008CFP046/ref=cfb_at_prodpg
      I think yours should be the same but double check.
      Also you can check directly in the ShopJimmy site here is a link for the Mitsubishi TV models look for your model on the left side.
      www.shopjimmy.com/tvs/internal-parts?tv_brands_select=Mitsubishi
      If is not included I would just send a message to ShopJimmy guys.
      Hopefully this helps.

      Ebay. $179. Check your model number against the DMD chip model number. Yours is most likely a "1910-6143W".

    It is true that you don't need to remove the entire light unit like you did here. I did mine without removing it and it was much faster and easier. I will say that the shopjimmy price of $240 for this dlp chip is highway robbery. It's not worth 1/2 that much! Stop being so greedy jimmy

    I have a Samsung 56" tv, model no: HL-T5687S model code:HL T5687SX/XAA. It was made in April of 2007. I'm having trouble with the tv coming on like it should. When I plug it up, I here the Samsung beeping melody , then the center blue Samsung button is glowing, the little red lite on the right side blinks, and the screen looks really dark blue, almost black. It does have about 20 or so white dots on it that are different sizes. I ordered an replaced 5 capacitors, even though only 4 of them were swollen. I also cleaned all the fans and parts. I took out the DLP chip and looked at it. I counted about 20 or so white dots on it or stuck mirrors. The DLP chip is around $200 or so and not sure if this is all of my problem. Can someone please advise me on this problem?

    What you really glossed over is the absolute need for a good quality "Heat Sink Compound". Without cleaning the heat sink and using new compound you will be replacing this chip again and again. Heat and electronics just don't mix. Keep it cool, man.

      +Larry Gallegos
      My guess Larry is that you have a blown capacitor somewhere probably around where the power supply electronics are at. This happened to a stereo I had and the bad cap had a visual bulge to the top. Just be super careful when working around caps in home appliances as they can be lethal if they discharge through you.
