    This is not dumb; this is the American way of life. You are not alone, there are so many people living their lives the exact same way that you were only they have not decided to move to the next phase. What is dumb about this confession is the medical bill total for your husband as well as the student loans. America's health care and education system is terrible, and we can learn a lot from other countries. You will tackle this, just remember one debt at a time if you take small bites the meal won't seem as large. I started my adult life basically the same way, however I know I would have had three of these sheets completed. It took me awhile to pay off everything, but I did it and you can too. Keep your head up, this is not a you problem but a systematic issue.

      Thanks for the encouragement. I agree about the medical bills and student loans. This country makes it impossible for people to get ahead. And that amount was just for ONE NIGHT in the ER. It’s ridiculous

    • @papabear2515
      @papabear2515 Рік тому +5

      With all due respect, this is not the American way of life for everyone. It is for millions, yes, but not everyone.
      I completely agree that our health care system is absolutely terrible and ridiculous, including cots, etc! That said, that’s all the more reason I think we need to be very conscious of making a realistic budget, not charging ANYTHING until any and ALL credit cards are at -0- balances and, for sure - really separating our wants and needs.
      The actual needs are few - housing, basic utilities, food, health insurance, retirement and an emergency fund (at least 6 months times our monthly needs). Everything else is a want, not a need. I often think that what we think of as “needs” are actually wants … gifts, streaming services and subscriptions, upgrades to phones, entertainment, getting nails done, going to sporting events, eating out, door dash, vacations, etc. And these “wants” are typically have a HUGE and onging negative effect on our budget - due to their ever accumulating interest, fees, etc. For example,
      A loan or credit card balance of $5700, with 20% interest will take SEVENTEEN YEARS to pay off in total if a person only makes the minimum payment each month! I think many, many people don’t realize this! So, a vacation of $5700 (a “want”, not a need) would impact the entire budget for SEVENTEEN YEARS- due to ongoing interest as it would ACTUALLY cost a TOTAL of $20, 064.08!!!!!!! When one looks at this realistically, that vacation is NOT worth it and it sure doesn’t cost the $5700 that was charged in the credit card/loan.
      Everyone needs to wake up and see how this keeps them trapped and still feeling like they can charge more, snd continue to see their wants as needs, etc. It’s hard to be “different” at times and not buy the newest, the greatest, etc - but it’s necessary to really get out from under!
      All the best to you and yours.

      I’m sorry - on my above post I also wanted to include my recommendation to watch UA-cam videos by Caleb Hammer. He was in debt himself at one point and then through planning, commitment and sacrifice, got himself completely out of debt and is now very financially stable and financially successful. I would suggest watching at least 4-5 of his videos to get some ideas and help on how to streamline debt paying, making a budget, etc.
      Again, all the best to the creator of this channel here and all who are in debt. It IS possible to get out from under the burden and stress of debt.

I was putting everything under the sun on my credit cards with the intention of paying them off and never did. I just kept digging the hole deeper and deeper and was avoiding creating a budget but I got it together now

    I remember several years ago when I was in my debt journey. It was so hard to pay it all off and have to give up any overtime, bonuses, and any extra money I could spare to debt, but I had to keep telling myself I had no choice and I HAD to keep trudging along to pay my debts. I finally did and now I can put all my extra money to savings. It will be a long journey for you, but just take it one dollar at a time and don't charge any more. Good luck in your journey!

    I remember that feeling…it was the main reason for paying off my debt…I wanted peace!!! I had anxiety and my stomach would hurt when I made minimum payments and it didn’t move the needle!! I’m not going to sugarcoat it…it will be hard and frustrating, but if you stick to it and continue to do the work and make the sacrifices, the other side is greener (financially)!!! It will change you…you will grow and develop muscle memory of making smarter financial moves!!! I was there…I have been budgeting for over 19 years…I changed my life and now my children’s life. I have a net worth of $1.5M and will retire in 5 years at the age of 47…you can turn it around and have what you want!!! I’m rooting for you…stay encouraged!!!

    Girl, the first step of success is acknowledgment. Putting in front of you it becomes less scary and gives you motivation! It’s such a soul sucking thing debt, it can break people. I’ve been in serious debt 3 times! I paid the first critical point from an inheritance which taught me nothing. The next time it took 5 years to pay off and we were debt free for a long time then life happened and we got swamped and ended up filing bankruptcy in 2017. We were debt free until 2019 where not only did life happen but kept coming and here we are. I believe we never learn until we’ve had to put the work into paying it all off to understand how NOT to get in debt again. I’m so proud of you girl, you’ve got this!!! 💜💜💜🤗🤗🤗

    Girl this is not stupid or dumb. Stop being so hard on yourself. We all at some point make poor financial choices. The good part about what you're doing is you're trying to fix it and not let it keep piling up. I'm in debt up to my eyeballs too. I'm actually thinking about making a debt free journey page as well. That way it will help me stay accountable. Also, don't worry about what the internet trolls say, and stop speaking so negative about yourself. Speak life into yourself and your husband that God will bring you through this and bless your finances in Jesus' name. You got this!

    I hope you see this: apply for the SAVE program. Go on your loan servicer and ask if they are apart of the program (its a federal program but not everyone will participate) if they do go ahead and apply. It helps you pretty much eliminated the interest occurring on your student loans, so you’ll only be paying principal. You can't keep putting off your student loans, they will kill your credit score even of you’ve paid off everything else. I hope this helps and good luck👍

    hi! That was my story- a few years ago. Anxiety in a very well-paying job, so I quit a job, I could not find another with than money, so I used all my savings when waiting for another well-paying job. Then I started using cc and taking cash from credit cards to pay my bills!!! My total debt was $ 42,000!!! My husband didn't know about it. I remember when I woke up very often in the middle of the night and my heart was racing so fast. One night I woke up again and told God that I couldn't take this any longer. God, I am giving my all debt to you, I don't know how you are going to do this but that is your debt now... Of course, it took me a few years to pay this off but slowly I started paying this. I am debt-free! Except my mortgage. You can do this!

    It is so good to know we are not alone in our financial troubles. Yes, most of it is of our own doing. But it is great to have y'all to support all of us. One thing I have learned about every thing in life, stress affects us physically and also "tempts" us to take feel good actions; spend more money that we don't have. Been there, done that. But with being completely honest with ourselves we can be ok because WE Will conquer this challenge.

    If you haven't already, you should look into the SAVE plan for you and your husband's student loans. It gives you a lower minimum payment and if the interest accrued that month exceeds your minimum payment amount, the remaining accrued interest is waived. In short, if you make your minimum payment, your loan balance never increases.

    • @NotBrokeForLong
      @NotBrokeForLong  Рік тому

      Thank you 💙. I'm actually in it already and got my payment lowered again. It was $700 at first and now it's like $320.

    I don't know if you've looked into the SAVE plan, but that should prevent your student loan balance from going up (though it may stay at the same balance despite payments that you make).

    • @NotBrokeForLong
      @NotBrokeForLong  Рік тому

      Thank you. I’m on the SAVE plan now and you’re right the balance is staying the same as long as I pay the minimum. Because of that I’m not tracking it with the rest of the debt now until I can pay more than the interest

  • @vitiligogirl1037
    @vitiligogirl1037 Рік тому

    This not dumb.. We or should I say some…have been in your shoes..Some people are still going through this.. I’m still paying on debt as well.. Hubbie and I owed 70k of debt not including our house.. We do not make a lot of money at all.. I’m a medical assistant & hubbie a firefighter..So that speaks for itself.. we put our big pants on and worked together to get our debt down to 17k..So, trust me when I say..this journey is no cake walk.. You have to give up so much and say no to a lot of stuff.. But, later on once this debt is gone…we can do so much more.. Just know…you & hubbie got this.. Jut don’t give up & stay the course..

    I know it seems whatever but you need to look into your student loans and make sure you're at least covering the interest on your student loans. And if you're paying more than just the interest is accumulating then you should still track them because even making a minimum payment you're making progress so long as it covers all of the interest

    You get to be who you are and where you are in life. You don't owe anyone any explanations. You made the decisions you made at any given time to the best of your ability at the time. Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't have a good understanding of life. Don't worry about them. You're facing your debt, making a plan and paying it off, and all of that is commendable, responsible, and full of integrity. You're doing a good thing here for yourself and all the people who watch your channel. Hold your head up high and be thankful you can work on getting rid of this debt!!! 👏🫡☺️☺️☺️
