  • This weekend I attended The Raptor Fair at the National Centre For Birds Of Prey (www.ncbp.co.uk/) representing "A Future With Falconry". You can see more about the work we do here: afuturewithfalconry.org/
The Raptor Fair is a chance for falconers and bird of prey enthusiasts to come together to socialise, purchase falconry equipment and enjoy free flying raptors.
I've linked most of the exhibitors below, in case anyone is interested (this is not sponsored in any way):

This took me back a fair few years. When I was stationed near Andover there was a Hawk Conservancy near by that I used to visit fairly often. Stunning displays and a wide range of birds from all over. Best for me was a barn owl who made his entrance flying between the shoulders of the seated audience from behind twisting and weaving through with not a sound to be heard even when he went right past your ear only an inch or so away. don't know if they are still there or not.
Nice to see Identity Leather there - I get most of my leather & tools for bookbinding from them. Really nice friendly bunch.
Alfie did look exhausted there at the end but he is getting big - that must have been some weight to carry round all day 😊
Used to have a barn owl who would fly past our cottage (about 20ft away from the front door) every evening at dusk, sadly not seen it for about a year now.
Thanks for taking us along on a lovely day out 🎉🦅

As someone fairly local to it I can confirm that Hawk Conservancy is still there and still brilliant! This video reminded me of it a lot as well. Glad to see there are more places like this around the country.

How can you not love falconry!
Thanks for a look at a VERY interesting fair!
I was particularly impressed at the many birds free flying all at once in the same field.
Alfie looks like he really enjoyed the day - we know you did! ❣👍😊
Ps i just now noticed the little falcon next to the heart that shows up when you like a comment - clever!

well, i wasn't expecting to find this gem tonight when i booted my computer. i listened and glanced at the screen as i did my evening after dinner chores. as the birds began to soar i had settled in for the evening, those few moments had me wanting to watch again so i upped the quality and switched to full screen. that was almost a mistake....i watched the third time after i plugged the hdmi cable from the computer to the tv, which hadn't been used since i left arizona in march.

Wish I could have been there to be able to admire so much beauty in one place. I had the privilege of being able to rescue a huge Red Tailed Hawk some years back. Just to be able to stroke his beautiful head and look into his eyes was absolutely mesmerizing. I had never been even close to one before that. I have a friend in Montana, USA who retired from the Federal Wildlife Commission after about 30 yrs. He too was a Falconer who was able to rehab all kinds of birds of prey and he took me with him one day to fly one of his birds. It was either a Peregrine of Gyrfalcon, all I know is that bird was so fast if I would have blinked my eyes I would have missed him getting his catch. Birds of prey are so very regal in my eyes. Thanks for such a great video. Hope to see another one soon.

Where I live in North East Kent (Whitstable/Faversham area) we have Kestrel’s, Buzzard’s, Marsh Harrier’s, Short eared Owls and not too far away (Dover) although I’ve never seen them, Peregrine Falcons. Red Kite are slowly moving towards Kent from the South West (Saw one last week in Surrey)

I'm thinking of how they represent the top of the food chain in many biospheres and if their survival is under threat, well, that tells a lot of how bad the rest of their natural environments are doing. Much like the one in the video, they have birds from all over the world. If there are those who would like to see these beautiful birds in flight, the center has flight demonstrations and days just for photographers. I will post a link. It is nice to know that Alfie will get to experience all your wonderful birds as he grows up. He will develop a love, not just for the birds, but all of nature. @@SHENworks Have you ever been to Horning's Hideout in North Plains, Oregon? They have multiple pairs of eagles and ospreys fishing in the trout pond every day. I'm going back out tomorrow to film them. With the change to cooler weather the birds should be incredibly active.

@@jansoules7912 Howdy neighbor! It's amazing how many neighbors you meet watching an international video. I wish we had ravens in our area! I do have a white winged crow that comes to eat from me and follows me around.
I just posted a crazy flat drop from a 100' by an osprey in slow motion to catch a trout.

cool place i had a great bird day today as i have been feeding the local blue jays peanuts all spring and summer and today 5 of them showed up all at once to use the birdbath and get food it was worth all the time spent lining up peanuts on the windowsill or looking out for the birds to throw them a nut two times we were not fast enough reloading the windowsill and he came right into the kitchen looking for the peanuts lol got him out without incident thankfully love these big birds always had a thing for falcons

Thank you, Amy! That was spectacular! I will have to do some research to see if there's anything like this in California.

Amy thank you for a beautiful video! The filming and music absolutely spot on! It’s a wonderful bird of prey centre isn’t it. I’m lucky enough to live a short distance from the centre and have visited many times. Thank you once again.x

I love you sharing your enthusiasm of birds. Thank you. I was wondering why the tie with a weight is swung about as the bird flys in? And I don’t think I’ve seen you do a video on vultures- would love to learn more.

That's a lure.. falconers use it to exercise a falcon as they fly very fast. It allows the falcon to fly in a natural manner. I have previously done a video on lure flying falcons.
