I am a kid and in year 3 we used your website to see your landmarks for learning. And me and my dad plus my mum liked all the highlights mentioned and stayed one night in greymouth before returning back using the train
Yes (in 2years), is the short version of my answer. A 3month MTB Bikepacking is my goal. Since MTB Bikeapcking in NZ is ridicously underrated, its the cheapest way and the most intense, immersive way to travel. A suggestion for you would be to get into these Niches which is MTB, RVs and Tinyhouseliving; all thrre of them have a tremoundes growthrate around the world but especially in Europe for a couple reasons.
Wow that sounds like an epic trip! Give us a heads up when you start so we can follow the journey! We did a few MTB videos here and there as part of our activities but we love to keep things varied with plenty of different stuffs, NZ ha soooooo much to offer it would be too hard for us to just pick one thing :(
I was more thinking about Coolabs with these guys rather than filling these Niche by yourself. A coolab would push to the next level.. Big players in this game are: BKXC and Nate Hills (MTB), Tiny Home Tours, living big in a tiny house, exploring alternatives (Alternative Living).
If you want to know those locomotives pulling the tranzalpine are dxb or dxc class locos I know this because this my dad's acount and he was a kiwi rail driver for 2 years and you can tell what locomotive it is the biggest are dx classes the smallest are dc classes
Hey there, we took this one -> bit.ly/2BZMBBi and yes there is a large car-parking at the train station in Christchurch, we parked there for the day :)
BackpackerGuide.NZ to book this train I see the price is 126 which is high now .. when’s the best time to book this train for May end like around 26th.
Just found your channel and it is AMAZING!!! I’m planning a trip to NZ in a couple months and direly need your guidance!! If you can see my comment lol I’m hoping to rent a car for a road trip around the South Island but also want to experience some of the scenic train, I don’t know how to organize such a route because I would need to get to my car somehow... I would be traveling in the car majority of the trip only would like to spend a small amount of time in the train. would really appreciate your suggestions! Love your channel
Thank you sooooo much for the lovely words! It truly means a lot to us! We just created a "itinerary samples" section on BackpackerGuide.NZ (www.backpackerguide.nz/category/travel-tips/transportation/itinerary-samples/) this would be a great way to start planning your trip as you have our suggestion for each lengths of travel :) Let us know if you have any specific questions ;)
Stop yelling at me!. I am reminded of those loud, hyped presenters on activity shows for teens. Very impersonal. I feel tense now which is the opposite to how I felt everytime I have travelled that magical crossing. The commentary style would go rather well for a wrestling match.👋
@@NZPocketGuide OMG!!! I'm freaking out right now!!! Thank you so much for responding!!! I'm a big fan!!! we're doing it on December 9th... :) Hope weather is good! Thank you for your video! it's very informative! I love it!
@@joanyang14333 Haha always happy to help mate ;) If you want faster answer jump onto one of our weekly live session, it is a lot of fun! Laura and I have our finger crossed for good weather for you!
@@NZPocketGuide just got back from our trip! unfortunately the weather didn't permit us to do the train ride... 😭 but i guess we have more reasons to go back to NZ! 😬😅
Quick etymology note. A gradient in railways is call a bank. (Think river). If extra motive power is added to help a train up it’s said to be ‘banked’. Those units are called ‘bankers’. 👍
Hey Solemon, thanks for the honest feedback, we're just way too enthusiastic about the activities that we're doing :) Hopefully you don;t hold this back against us too much ;)
Great video, the tranzalpine is great to do in winter too when there's snow through arthurs pass.
yes it is! next time we'll try to do it in winter! Do you have any pictures to show us Hayden?
I am a kid and in year 3 we used your website to see your landmarks for learning. And me and my dad plus my mum liked all the highlights mentioned and stayed one night in greymouth before returning back using the train
That is sooooo cool! Thanks for sharing! Have you visited other places that we show on our videos?
@@NZPocketGuide yes but only some
I think I'll be making a trip down to Christchurch in Winter to do this. Always wanted to do this

Go to agrodome and be amazed in Rotorua cuz they are real kiwi experience especially adrogome farm
Yeah it is fantastic, a bit far from the Tranzalpine train though 😂

Winter make a wish did it for us
Awesome NZ channel. Why are you not famous or at least well known yet ?
Thanks Nik! Feel free to give our videos a share and make us famous! Haha. Are you planning a trip to NZ?

Thanks for the insight Lindsay, you rock!
Thank you. Beautiful train ride...amazing views and tasty food! I only wish you guys used your natural voices in your commentary.
Thanks for the praises ;) Those are our natural voices, perhaps we just have bad microphones.
Wow 😮 I want to do this so bad!!!! Great video!! Again
Thanks! The TranzAlpine journey is a must do in New Zealand, so majestic!
The tickets to take alpine train has two options flex or flexi pass . Which one is worth it .. and is there car parking at the train station ?

Please take the Northern explorer
Yes we'll do that ride one day haha!
F#@*ing long tunnel that Otira tunnel! Goes on forever. Thats when I would catch a nap!
Haha, or play sudoku in Robin's case...
Many a boring moment has been redeemed by sudoku. I have had to make my recipes for Bore-Dumb!
Enjoy the scenery she says as she sits and looks at her laptop.
Haha! Oh trust us, we did not get a lot of work done that day... The views were too good!

Passengers can listen to a commentary via head phones about what you are seeing as you go along better than this vidio.☺
Are you from nz or Europe
Laura was born in the UK and Robin in France but we are both living in NZ since over 10 years now :)
how long was the train ride one way? Thanks!
Mmmmmh' that's a good question. I'd say about 4-5 hours. When are you planning to do it?
