- Today IS the day.... HOPEFULLY!! Let's find out together if all that cleaning we've done to the fuel system and injection pump is going to be what it needs to FINALLY start up after it's 10+ year slumber!
Let's get the Stanadyne injection pump reinstalled and see what happens!
~
Check out the FULL Playlist Rescuing this old loader HERE:

~
This old loader is a 1965 Allis Chalmers TL645 Wheel Loader with an Allis Chalmers 3500 turbo charged 6 cylinder diesel engine. It has an Allison automatic transmission, and can reach speeds of 21MPH going forward! It is articulated and can make VERY tight turns, making it very nimble in tight places. It weighs about 26000 lbs or so, and it's a PERFECT sized machine for all the random things I do!
Join me on this journey as we work together to figure out what it's going to take to get this machine back up and running once again! This will be a daily account of the process showing a bit more of what is takes to properly bring this old beast back to life and make it usable once again!
This machine should be a LOT of fun!
~
Thanks as always for watching and following along with all my crazy adventures here on Salvage Workshop, I TRULY appreciate it!Please enjoy! I know I did!

Matt, you called it, Ole Allie. Thanks for the instructions on fuel injector pumps.
Matt Salvage, you are one dangerous dude, man !! Allis Chalmers LIVES !! 😊😊😊
Her name is Lonely Allis, she's in the barn all by herself and has no one to drive her. Lovely, Lonely Allis
Lonely Allis like it.
Definitely!!!
She ain't lonely any more!
Lonely Allis with ‘All Chalm’ 😊
Re the no-shutdown issue, go and look at the previous video. There's a couple of adjustments on the top of the pump (- especially the locknut/adjuster above the banjo fittings, that alter the tension on the shutdown linkage). You could even just remove the top cap of the pump to see how much the solenoid moves and if you can manually force a shutdown by pushing the lever.
Amazing trip through the injection pump and onto success. It felt like an "abandon all hope to all who enter here" journey into the complex inards of the rotary pump. Went on to read a bit more into the interesting history of the development of the rotary injection pumps which came to fruition in the early 50's. Credit goes to a Mr. Vernon D. Roosa who pioneered the technology which greatly reduced costs of diesel engines.
This success certainly speaks volumes about our hosts talents. Helped a friend with his loader which shared companies with Alias Chalmers and Fiat an Italian company they merged with. Looks very much like it. Same geometry on the cab and hydraulics.
Old Man is a great name. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
It is a beast of a beeffy machine built like a Bison - So I vote to call it your bison buddy.
Wow !! Man it was good to hear her run !! How bout ol Yellow for a name . Can't wait for the next video !! 👍👍
Great job Matt. Well done getting the ol girl going.
Got to call it "Wonderland" as in Allis in. Couple that with all the adventures your going to have fixing all the kinkes in it. Interesting content. I love watching older equipment come back to life.
You are the man. I am very proud of the type of person you are.
What a beautiful sound, that old motor sounds sweet!
It runs as amazing as it sounds! Just wait till the next video! This machine is a GEM!
@@SalvageWorkshop that’s great news, can’t wait to see it
@@SalvageWorkshop it's an Allis Chalmers 👍
Great job bud I can’t believe you actually redid the injection pump and got her going wow
way to spoil it...
@@paulwalker427 pump he did in last one you need to play catch up

Dont read comments before finishing the video. It's your own fault if you read something that didnt happen yet
You’re getting better as a presenter. Much more relaxed and lively. Keep up the good work.
Remember the wire was cut before, there may be a short that is not cutting the power completely to the shutoff switch. If not, maybe the solenoid or linkage on the shutoff solenoid is not getting full movement. But I bet it has to do with that wire. Easy enough to test by clamping the wire to the pump, start it and then pull the wire.
Nice work on the pump.
It could be something like feedback from the alternator, that isn't stopping the supply in time. Running a new test wire/switch directly to the solenoid pin will say if it's a wiring/ solenoid/ pump issue.
The solenoid stroke probably isn't enough to kill it. You should look inside the cover and make sure it actually closes the metering valve. Also, a worn metering valve bore may cause the pump to just keep the engine going, as fuel just goes around the shaft in the bore. Consider installing a new metering valve and/or installing a bushing.
Great job!
Well done Matt.I applaud you for having the guts to yard that pump apart and clean i up . Making it run was great to see.
Love your channel. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thanks for bringing us along.
Even better the second time around.
We always clamp a piece of tire inner tube with the valve stem over the fuel tank fill and pressurize the tank with air. that will save a lot of cranking, the starter and battery from overheating. Nice job on the pump, that was above my pay grade
What a good idea 👍
Matt your hard work is always remarkable. Thank you for doing this. I was fist pumping the air with you when she started up!
Awesome! Ya I really do LOVE awakening these old beasts, glad you like it too!
That was the first great step on the way to having a usable machine once more. Mind you, the cosmetics need more than a touch of magic, more like some hard graft to get a seat back in place. I think Brent has the answer to the shut-down issue.
Name her "Taffy".
Another fine job Matt. Keep dropping these videos.
Excellent job, Great success on the overhaul of that fuel pump. Great running engine. Check with a voltmeter if the 24 Volts fuel shut of solenoid is de-energizing.
Loved your excitement when she roared up!
🤣
For the shutoff, I imagine a worn out weak spring somewhere that doesn't close up a valve that stays open as long it's coil is energized, but I have no idea where to look for it. I hope you don't have to re-open the injection pump again...
Thx for the update, I stay tuned!
👍👍👍
Gotta love those cheap clicky clack inline pumps to help push fuel to the injector pump... Another good idea is to put an inline see thru fuel filter after the clicky clack as well...just in case
Great job! Keep em coming!!!!
Great video again. I think the solenoid issue is a bad contact in the key. Because when you turn the key it momentarily tries to shut off. Next when key is fully turned it gets going again. To check loop out key contact with a piece wire instead. If that works you have a bad contact in the key holder.
Suggestion for cutting lines is trauma shears. I've used them for a lot of oddball tasks and keep being impressed by them. Good video!
"I only know enough to be dangerous, but man am I dangerous " 🤣🤣 Best comment of the week goes to....😁
you are going through exactly what I went through with an old international backhoe a couple years ago. same stanadyne injection pump and no lift pump in sight. sat for about 14 years and I never could get it fired back up again even with the starting fluid. I used to be able to but not anymore. even after rebuilding the starter the engine never would spin over fast enough to crank. bled all the air out of the lines and everything. sold it a while back and never did figure out what was going on with it.
Boy this thing got handy just in time!...
Great filming Matt , yes it's to me the solenoid not doing its job , it's an education ! Thanks for sharing this !
Awesome! Got it running! 👍
Great job you are one clever guy, keep on working you are the best out there
Always encouraging to watch you work Brother!!
Bring back whistling down the road music nice!
Matt this is awesome, very informative. I have old David brown tractor 885. It's been leaking deasil at pump I'm sure its simple seal but I've been nervous to touch. After watching you I believe I'm ready. Thanks for your patience, knowledge and not giving up determination. It's infectious !!
I really like the quick short video's. 100% better than not seeing ya for month or more. Cheers bud
Any update on that old tractor?
@@killtyrant not yet got us a heat wave going here..to hot to work
@@jodybethkinjorski9030
I hear that. Not sure where ya at but a couple weeks back, I moved from Maryland to New York and the heat was something awful. Especially since I had the a/c off the last few days.
That's awesome. So cool to see an old rig fire up. Keep up the good work sir.
Good progress, look forward to seeing it in operation!!
It was great to see it crank
up again. We fill your
excitement after all the
hard work you have had to

Call her “to the Moon”. It’s a reference to the old TV show called The Honeymooners starring Jackie Gleason.
Figured you would beat us to the punch, great job done 😎

For a name, how about Allis Cooper Savage? 😊
SOUNDS GOOD GREAT JOB.
One can't be reminded of the classic line from Frankenstein when he said Its Alive..its Alive when she kicked over and the exhalation he had when it did...
Thats so awesome to See how you bring These Beasts back to life.
And how you happy about it.
The Turbo Sound is just incredible love These beast so much

Great work. Love the channel. Love your passion. Great presenting.
Great job Matt! 👍👍👍
Great job on getting it running bro, just the shutting it down to sort out. Safe travels
Great job
Good call on sorting that pump, sounds sweet and seemed to run pretty clean. Hope you can get to the bottom of the solenoid issue without too much hassle!
Matt you are such a great inspiration! Love watching you bringing theese old cool machines to life again. My guess is that the shut off valve is stuck.
Excellent work Matt keep going, can’t wait for next instalment
Congrats on getting it running, I was pretty excited to hear the diesel roar to life. Alley Oop for a name?
So sweet! Like the shorter content!
That engine sounds sweet! Great work!
I enjoy your videos I wish you would make more of them you’re a pretty good mechanic

Paul .uk.
Two years late on the hipster beard party. Just sayin’. I love your videos. Definitely on my must watch list. Thank you for making these.
Congratulations Matt you be the, man .Great job brother.
Great job Matt. The fuel shut off problem is A. Coil is not de-energizing. B. Solenoid vale not working correctly. That's it in a nut shell.
I agree! Fuel shut-off valve is stuck open.
@@wesleybradley89 I assume that he is talking about the electro-magnetic coil inside of the solenoid.
@@wesleybradley89 It has a electro magnetic coil that when energised opens the internal pump fuel valve
@@wesleybradley89 You only know of one coil do ya? 🤣
@@wesleybradley89 the one that runs the mouth before the brain. maybe you should look in to getting yours fixed as well.
Great video!
enjoyed this, keep the videos coming.
Engine sounds smooth as silk👌 Fair play Matt. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Great video about "Alice", she's a good girl. I did run a 645 in a small quarry many years ago. Don't know much about diesel fuel systems. Thanx for sharing, watch all your videos.🙂
