Hi Nigel, It looks really nice, I have a similar paint from Model Masters "Aluminum buffing", unfortunately Model masters are not produced anymore, but I still have a lot of jars of multiple "buff" metal colors (Alu, anodized alu, Stainless steel, gun metal, burnt metal, burnt iron, exhaust, and gun metal). I never tried but isn't "metal cote" from Humbrol kind of the same thing? About filtering the paint, there is those conical paper paint gun filters, I remove the filtering mesh and use it in a funnel, (as the paper would absorb most of the paint) 👋🏻
That was great, really enjoying my WNWW Sat catchups 😁. Thank you 👍🏻
I always thought it was perlage (As on the front of The Spirit of St. Louis). Obviously not. All the best.
Looks great Nigel. I'm currently building the WNW E.II and will try this technique.
Go for it!
Excellent effect in the end and great to see the trials and failures along the way!
I’m mid way through testing this method as well after watching LPJ Models tackle it a while back, love his builds as well! I popped to Hobbycraft the other day to get the burnishing pencils but great to know a solid cotton bud also works great but for me the best info was the potential timeframes to work with, just yesterday I had tried it with the same paint but I let it dry for way to long…just put a new test coat down to try
I’m also going to have a stab at the WnW approach out of interest as I have XF16 Tamiya enamel already and just put x11 enamel on order but I reckon this burnishing approach will be the one!
BTW give me a shout if you ever need any emergency Mr Hobby paints, my local shop has the full range on the shelf (and that’s a railway shop as well😄🤔) and happy to pick any up and post!
Thanks again for your generous offer Steve.
amazing results, hat off! I wonder if I can pull this off in 1/72! 😂 maybe a toothpick would work at that scale, although its consistency really has nothing to do with "buffing"
The Fokker Eindecker is one of my favourite aircraft and you have done a superb job on those metal parts. I've only built this in 1/72 scale and lightly dabbed a scallop effect.
Many thanks!
Bravo! You nailed it. Very grateful because I have this kit and will be crossing this same bridge at some point. The modelling community has many lovely people in it, always ready with advice or a helping hand. 😊
Glad it was helpful! Thank you.
Did you miss a second coat of clear on the cowel? Nice effect BTW, well done.
I think I did it off camera?
Wow .. really nice effect!
Excellent rendition of that particular aluminium finish. I would be very interested to see a method of reproducing the patterned, engine turned finish as shown, for example, on aircraft such as Lindberg's Spirit of St Louis or panels on '30s cars like Bugattis and so on. Maybe your network of experts could enlighten us?
Maybe a cotton bud in an electric drill???
@@NigelsModellingBench 🤣🤣🤣
Apparently, on the Spirit of St Louis...it was like a wire brush on the end of a drill...you see it getting reproduced in the James Stewart movie!
Wouldnt hairspray scratch work?
Give it a go, maybe?
Looks really good...🎯
Thank you 😋
Nige coffee filters should work for filtering your paint
I don't think that it would work, it would probably absorb most of the paint.
Thanks Annie... I shall get some.
@@NigelsModellingBench nige update on that it should be filters for 3d resins
@@NigelsModellingBench oh just plain old paint filters at home depot!
Thanks Nigel for this very useful tip!
Glad it was helpful! Thank LPJ models!!
...spray chrome silver base. Lines with fine silver artists paint pen. Effect won't be wasted once sealed
Tried that, it didnt look right.
Hmm.. I wonder if hammered effect paints might work? Perhaps even dry brushing after it's thoroughly dried and hardened with a brighter tone🤔 Has anyone tried that??
Superb Nigel, mastered it! 👍
Thanks 👍
I am amazed on how you did this.👍👏
Thank you! 😊 LPJ models showed me the way.
Outstanding Nige
Thank you James.
