- All I did was spray deoxit on the inside to clean it out. I let it dry overnight, and I dont know what went wrong. I'm getting very weak sound and very scratchy on both channels on speaker systems A and B and get absolutely nothing on 1 channel on system C. I dont even have the knowledge to fix whatever went wrong

Don't overspray contact cleaner. Only spray the pots and switches. Stay away from just spraying in speaker connect areas. Wait for it to be dry before turning it on.
unless you want to destroy your speakers, keep playing it like this and keep saying i dont know what happened....
Man, I was expecting this to be an April fool's prank, but turns out, it isn't...
I wish this was a prank. Very unfortunate it's got a problem I cant fix by myself
There are a few good repair shops left. We still have a tech that specializes in McIntosh. He does all others as well
Spray again, exercise the controls like crazy while still wet. Try again. If there's no improvement, there's likely an electrical issue, rather than a mechanical one.
I'm wondering if turning it on and leaving it on for an hour or more would help. I'm gonna try that now that I've calmed down from being upset
That would help if it's a component failure, some will work when they get hot.
@@jaykay18 it's been over an hour, still getting nothing but a very weak scratchy sound on full blast
OK, spray it again and exercise the controls real good.
@@jaykay18 I'll try. I'll see what happens
Send it to me. These 5000s are my specialty
Where are you located?

@@JordanPier Yikes! I'm all the way at the east coast in New york. Can you tell by hearing, what happened to my receiver why all of a sudden it's not producing any sound after just cleaning the inside with deoxit?
@@willthetrill4849 if you got deoxit on the boards you've likely caused a leakage path. If this is on the power supply or protection board it can cause mis-firing of the protector circuit which will cause the quiet distortion. If the power supply regulator has failed it will cause this symptom - but usually in both channels simultaneously.
In weird instances, if the protector lamp behind the right of the front panel burns out it can cause this too. It's an odd lamp - like 48v or some such thing.
How handy are you with multimeters? I assume you've checked the 4 amp quick acting channel fuses on the back?
@@JordanPier you may have solved the problem. Now that you mentioned the protector lamp, I realized I left the bulb out. I'm glad I didnt throw it away. So in the morning I gotta take the top off to put that little bulb back in there. Now I know how important that bulb is
Maybe when this whole pandemic is over. You could possibly ask spats bear he might know what’s wrong
😪 What have you done ....Sansui is the very very best gear.....Those SP speakers are mean as too....Hope it comes right my broer...
Is that a stereo receiver? I'm getting a vintage wood grain one from my neighbors shed Saturday, been sitting for YEARS. It looks cool, the brand Sears Coldspot comes to mind. Even though it's obviously not an air conditioner...
Yes it sure is. Sounds awesome. Sounds better than modern stereo systems
Change the fuse, same thing happened to mine .Check left and right.
My sansui 4000 did the same thing years ago.. it was blown fuses... check the fuses
You lost filter caps I believe. Not a huge deal but I wouldn’t try to run it til it’s fixed.
check the fuses my sansui 4000 did it years ago.
Man that sucks.
What was the outcome, if you don't mind?
All it was was a bulb i forgot to put back in. That's all it was. It's working great now
