We understand the audio was not great. The wireless mic failed prior to taping, and we had an audience sitting there to keep happy. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will bring a second one next time.
I love that you guys are rebuilding a part of railroad history that will actually be used for excursions instead of sitting in a museum not running. I'm graduating in 2028 and hope to work with the PRR so I can't wait for this to be there when I am!
17:00 the primary feature of a Lempor is a massive reduction in cylinder back pressure, the increased draft is a bonus. I'm not sure there's any single thing that can be done a locomotive that would have a greater improvement in efficiency and power over a Lempor.
Glad to see this is still going strong. Its been awhile since i checked in on this. Cool to see my CAD work on screen (the solidworks model of the original drawings). There are actually three seperate giant drawings for the frame. 1 for the full length, and 1 for each set of cylinders. Each was a similar amount of work to get through with the total around 4-5 hundred hours as stated. Single solidworks part file was hundreds of megabytes. Can't wait to ride.
Thank you for your great work on the 5550 and for overlaying the slides into the video for clairity. Suggestion for the next video, please add arrows to the slide if the presenter is pointing out a feature in the presentation.
I may not be the same avid Railroad Enthusiast I once was as a kid well over 15 years ago, but even now at age 24 if there's one thing I care about anything with trains, it's this and that I hope someday this project is successful complete in my lifetime and I'll be able to ride on a train it pulls someday. There's something about machines that have always fascinated me. That started with Steam Locomotives. And Die-cast Battery powered Lionel Toy Trains and stories on books and audio cassettes from the earliest and purest childhood memories.

@@EngineerDaylightThe trust already mentioned they will do high speed testing at the big test loop in Pueblo, CO. A sponsor is even paying for their trip out there and the testing fee.
@@chooch1764The Pueblo Test track is one thing. Talking I assume Amtrak into green lighting letting a steam locomotive on it's mainline, let alone to run at that speed? Good luck w/that.
Since no actual railroad will let her open that throttle to the max, they should lay some track at the Bonneville Salt Flats, round up some streamlined cars in appropriate PRR livery and let her rip!! I'd like to ride that train!!!
14:27, I see the feedwater heater is being deleted? My understanding is that 614 didn't run nearly as well without a feedwater heater, and that it was harder on the boiler. Is there any way you all can elaborate on why this might be incorrect?
The 614 ran fine with a 22 car train at 80mph upgrade on Port Jarvis trips in the mid 90's. There is zero concern about how it will operate. We know that maintenance will be much less with 2 injectors
@@TheT1Trust My understanding is still that this was much harder on the boiler, and harder to fire.... I understand it did 80mph in the 90's.... (And got itself removed from NJ Transit in the process). If this proves to be an issue is there a provision to add the feedwater heater?
Depending on how this goes, this may set the template on how to restore other extinct Steam Locomotives. No doubt the lessons learned from a first rebuild can lead to potential cost reductions for another future rebuild and how to do things better. For now it’s getting done, albeit slowly.
@@ryanolearick4174 that is the one I bet will happen. But it will need a dedicated team just like the T1 Trust to do it and plenty of planning, financing, etc.

Да с таким диаметром колёс это возможно. Потрясает совершенство каналов для пропуска пара. Видимо очень высокий КПД.
I've been very impressed by the thoroughness and professionalism of this group of gentlemen. The T1 Trust has been and is in good hands.
Theyre actually getting through a lot with this.. okay im officially convinced theyre going to get this thing done.

Keep up the great work guys !!! Have you thought about smoke deflectors for tunnels ?
T1s never had smoke deflectors and they never said anything about it, so almost guaranteed no.
You guys should hire a part time media person. Someone to explain more of the intricacies of the build. It would gain traction, for sure
Oh yeah, a new update.
I wish our local 2716 re-construction crew was as least half this organized. I doubt they will get it running by 2030 and 2716 was nearly intact.

It’s not a compound locomotive. It’s kind of like a simple articulated, but it’s not really articulated.
