Ho Sung Choi’s unique golf swing took social media by storm in 2018. After winning on the Japan Tour in 2019, the South Korean pro received a playing exemption to the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
We made our way to Pebble to learn more about the man behind the swing. Ho Sung Choi is the first instalment of Skratching The Surface.
Highlighting golf's fun, weird, and ridiculous side.

Came for the swing, stayed for the attitude. What a guy!

My friend was talking a lot of smack about Ho Sung and all I had to say is, with his swing, he's playing on TV. Even though you're a low handicap player with a cookie cutter swing, I don't see you playing on tour. Don't matter how the swing looks, only how you get the ball in the hole in the least amount of strokes. Definite joy to watch Ho Sung play, keeping it interesting and reminding weekend hacks like me with an ugly swing you can still score well.

Next to Freddie Couples and Lee Trevino's swing Ho Sung Choi's is a close 3rd. You just have to appreciate uniqueness in golf! every swing nowadays seem to look a like. I'm rooting for you Ho Sung!

The thing that really stood out to me was how he's just letting his body tell him what needs to be done to accomplish his ultimate goal - get the ball going in the direction he wants it. Furthermore he allows the body to protect itself by getting out of its own way after impact, which is where all the "funny dances" come from.
Hey, if it means I can play without cranking my back I'd dance all day too! Tiger you watching?

Reminiscent of Scheffler’s floaty right foot. I love the pure focus on getting the ball to target.

Free rotation after impact is actually a great way to prevent injury. Might be worth investigating how replicable this type of swing can be

There is one dude who dislike either Ho Sung Choi or the video, either pga coach or a loner. LOL

There's nothing like raw, untouched golf ability. The current world of golf is too robotic, repetitive and not unique. There's so many ways to get in the hole, no two players should look alike.

Kyle Coultas I find bubba an exciting player to watch for the same reason, it must be lessons tainting everyone’s natural swing to look like Adam Scott.
