Thanks Glyn for putting this together in a separate video. I remember asking you for this a couple of weeks back and once again you are a man of his word. Really appreciate and learn a ton from everything you share!
big thankyou for this easy fix. had a look on other youtubers that have made it so complicated. you made it very simple to understand thanks. just joined your website
Wow! And all this time I've been wasting time playing with edit->Selection->Feather and also contract around my selection. And this method is 1000x faster and looks better!! Awesome Video!!
Interesting video. We do school photography and it's a real time consuming problem, especially when it comes to contemporary groups, so with the next season approaching it'll be fascinating to see how things speed up...
Brilliant, Glyn! This is super useful. I wanted to add a little tip, if I may: sometimes when I have a good mask but only one little spot that is haloed, you can easily push in the mask with the smudge tool. Glyn, I love all of the stuff you and Dave have done together. To me, it is your signature artwork - my favorite of all you do. Whimsical as it is, it is truly fine art.
Great tutorial. Another nondestructive way I use is to Select the Mask. Then Menu-Filter/ Other/ Minimum 1px. Then use the Mask Properties Panel to Feather the edge to blend the edges into new backgrounds.
Hey Glyn -- I also follow you on Instagram and just recently found your UA-cam site. Just wanted you to know I watched this video last week, and had an occasion to use it yesterday; it was perfect for my situation. So thank you!
Well, that's nice to know! I have been adding an Inner Glow Layer Effect, set to a dark color, on Darken Blend Mode. It leaves a dark edge all the way around, though, so, it has to be very subtle! LOL Must give this way a go! Thank you! Su
i have used after i select the cutout, shrink selection by say, 1 pixel or whatever and that gets rid of most of the halo, of course i learned that a long time ago and i am sure your method is better, will try it next time, thanks for the tip. just an amateur here :)
Not necessarily a better technique but just another to add in the 'tool box', What I like about this one is how you control how much it shrinks rather than doing it by one pixel then another etc... Does that make sense?
Great tutorial. Just a few questions why do you apply the blur prior to the expansion of the black. Also could you do the same thing with Modify > Feather and Modify> Contract?
Super tip! After 11 years of working with Photoshop, Glyn always manages to teach me something new and useful.
Excellent ... really well delivered and easy to follow.. well done.

Finally, after days and days. The easy short one. Thanks a lot.
I consider myself quite an advanced photoshop user and have never seen this technique before. Much better than I was expecting!
Cheers Zack...I'm always learning new ways and I love Photoshop because of that :)
Thanks Glyn for putting this together in a separate video. I remember asking you for this a couple of weeks back and once again you are a man of his word. Really appreciate and learn a ton from everything you share!

you can also modify the selection and contract by one pic, invert the selection and paint it away with black brush
Very cool, thanks :)
Great. Thanks,
Great tutorial. Just a few questions why do you apply the blur prior to the expansion of the black. Also could you do the same thing with Modify > Feather and Modify> Contract?
Hi Jason...check out my latest video showing a new method for doing this that gives much more control: ua-cam.com/video/Paj-e4ndMW0/v-deo.html
