In May I purchased according to UA-cam the most sought after model Harley had to offer, the Low Rider ST. UA-camrs were claiming markups of $5,000 to $8,000. My dealership charges list less dealer prep. They offer extended factory warranties, you pick the length of the plan, the value is deducted from list and added back in as a separate line item…I chose 5 years and felt it was a win win. I also received 15% off all add-ons purchased at the same time as the bike. I’m extremely satisfied!

I buy extended warranties not so much for the mechanical parts of the bike...but more for the computer/electronical tech that they are putting in these things....that stuff can get REAL expensive real quick if it needs fixin!!...great video...stay safe out there!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦

The extended warranty isn't just about break downs. I choose to get the extended warranty 90% because of the wheel and tire protection. As far as having dealerships around every corner, Harleys are a very specialized machine and most owners are very attached to their bike. I like knowing there is a dealership nearby because I can usually be pretty confident that a dealership is going to understand that I love my bike and they *should* in theory treat it the way I do. Plus, we all know bring broken down on a motorcycle is 100x worse than being in a car. Again, a dealership should understand this and *should* in theory be doing everything in their power to get you back on your way.

My last bike- the one in the picture. I got as a leftover 2018 on 7/5/2019. My first Brandly new anything, got the warranty and had 3 issues.
    1) The tour pack top tether broke internally allowing the top to fall down ripping out the hinges destroying the bottom.
    2) Front fork seal. Had it in for service and the Teck thought the right-side brake was leaking fluid- put it up on the lift, replaced the oil-soaked pads then when taking it off the lift discovered the fork seal was the issue.
    3) Thursday/ day before start of Sturgis rally last year the ACR- auto compression release blew out of the head. I was in Rapid City less than 10 miles from exit 55 HD. No HD dealers within 100 miles were doing warranty work during rally. Total BS on HD for allowing it- not honoring their warranty. Cost $2400 to tow it home/ missed the rally/ destroyed my yearly vacation let alone the cost of the cabin / wrist band.
Once my local dealer replaced the head the service/ sales manager mentioned that my bike was within 300 miles of 60k miles. And HD considers a bike with 60k plus miles "high mileage" and the trade in value will be cut in half minimum. Traded it on the spot for the Ultra Apex with warranty and will have it paid off by retirement next year.
I was looking hard at the Pan Am to replace my 2006 1st gen KLR650 daily commuter but forget that now.

Purchasing an extended warranty is the choice of each person. Many factors include the person's mechanical aptitude, financial status, time priorities, and life chapter of family.

I don't buy extended warranties. They just don't pencil out. If I were to add up all the money I would have spent on extended warranties on cars, TVs, computers, motorcycles, etc, and just applied that money to something that breaks that would have been covered, I would still come out way ahead. When I bought my HD, I replaced a few items on the M8 that are suspected to break. We will see if that works out.

I do agree they have some room to work with a pricing on the warranties and I have one as well. The warranty time frame has always been seven years equals five. They always take those two first years off because you’re covered in as well. I go back-and-forth on the warranty, but I don’t know if people know that if you sell your bike hearing that. You can go back to the dealership and get a refund of the amount you spent.

WOW,' I bought an extended warranty and I'm in the auto repair industry. I don't care about a light or little crap, I care about powertrain. There's a host of extended warranties out there that are poor products advertised well. I am comfortable with what I bought, I only hope I keep this bike long enough to need it. ... Bob

I would say no to the Harley-Davidson extended warranty, but don't mind me, I purchased a used, as is, metric cruiser, and no warranties at all. A lot of work, and a few hundred dollars to get it road worthy, and now it is a smooth running machine.
    Take care HDR, ride safe.

@@HarleyDayRider I just met my bike a year ago, and knew nothing about it when I purchased it. I literally paid for it without seeing it, based on a friend of mine who told me about someone he knew that had a bike for sale. The good, is it was low priced, and the bad, is how well it ran. I downloaded many manuals, and watching many UA-cam how-to's later. I guess you could say that now, I DO know my bike!

I didn't get it because I like using my local mechanic instead HOWEVER, just learned that Harley Certified shops can honor your extended warranty and you don't need to buy all the VIP crap so you don't have to wait three months to get in

I bought a extended warranty on every new bike. My extended warranty paid for wheel bearings. Sounds like it depends on the dealer on what they will cover. If you trade in your bike with warranty left. You can get refunded on the warranty that's left. I believe they are well worth it

Cheap insurance. Would have cost me 10k out of pocket. Also it is my experience harley and the extended warranty will cover wheel bearings. Dealers try to screw you instead of dealing with the claim. When I worked for dealerships we always took care of the customers and fought with the warranty department ourselves.

7 year warranty is $3000+ half is commission to dealer.. good for them... In 7 years what part of the Harley haven't you modified??? or your modifications are connected to??? Ok, the parts left that are not effected by your modifications that are not cosmetic or normal wear items are insured.... Can you fix them with that $3000 that you saved???? Get my drift here...????? Even the new 23 CVO touch screen computer is $2400 retail... What else is there????
