      Not many people are going to pay for a 3D printed board. Get ready to pay 50k for each injection mold. The market is flooded with competition and these electric longboards are fairly easy to make. There is not much to differentiate the product besides it's wattage and the 18650 batteries he's using are available everywhere. Then you need to look at profit margins after raw materials, shipping, and assembly to determine if there's actually a potential business there.

    I would strongly recommend TIG welding those motor brackets to those trucks. I had the same setup with a single motor. After about 200 km the motor mount to truck interface was so loose that the belt started to slip. I had even drilled and tapped the trucks properly with 3 set screws to hold the motor bracket. No problem since I paid someone to weld them for me. Love the build tho!

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому

      Nah, no need to. I have ridden these mounts almost 2000km in total and never had any issues. I used loctite 648 for where the mount is touching the axle and loctite 243 for all screws. Holds perfectly.

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому

      Nice, very cool to hear. I'm currently studying as an EE, it's very useful because you have more options where you want to work at and it's easier to get into higher positions at big companies like Tesla or so. But for a person like you who experiments with flyback transformers in his freetime, this will probably be a huge boring ton of theory. My first sem was almost completely on how electric fields in a capacitor work and you have to calculate a ton of stuff that doesn't really get used unless you want to work at nichicon.
      I usually only enjoy like 10% of the stuff I learn there everything else is just nice to hear but not practical.

    • @Electronic4081
      @Electronic4081 5 років тому

    i built my own E-Longboard too :D
    the maximum speed is 52km/h and i have about 30 km range :3 it costed around 500€ and can easily beat a boosted board as well :D
    well i used a diffent motor and different batteries BUT...
    The main difference is that i dont use a BMS. discharging without a BMS is not a problem as long as you (how i do it) charge the batteries balanced, so they all have the same voltage.
    in my case i had a special charger at home and didnt need to buy one but i mainly didnt use a BMS because i simply dont trust them.
    the battery pack is the most expensive part of the longboard and i want to keep it good for a long time. For that reason i chose a proffesional charger and not a BMS

    Small correction: 12s configuration won't necessarily give you more power, just higher max voltage which will change your max speed. Since 50km/h is a lot, I think 10s would have been perfectly fine; then you also wouldn't need that protecting diode perhaps.
    Fantastic video!

    • @MrRailcraft
      @MrRailcraft 5 років тому

      Remember, Voltage times Amps equals Power. Voltage has an impact on the power. Moar speed is a side effect.

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому +1

      See, only the amps create heat and make your system inefficient. On low speeds the conversion from the high voltage of the low motor voltage gets inefficient. Say you only want to ride 25kmh, same Kv same gearing, then yes 10S would actually be okay and give the same power, but as soon as you want to go to 3/4th the rpm of the kv limit of a 10s configuration. That would be around 30Kmh thats where my system still has enough force to push full 70 Amps in the motor, a 10S can only push maybe 40amps and you loose a ton of power.
      Amps create heat, heat limits your system. Thats why on higher voltage you can get more power.
      But yes on the other side 10S is more safe (still would recommend a tvs though)

    Awesome Video! And the board looks incredible! Will you make any videos on riding it with a pov camera? I would like to see more of what it can do.

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому

      actually tried that a few times before but it just looks a little wierd. I can point the camera downwards that you see the board, but then you cant see anything of the environment and everything interesting disappears. I can point it forwards and you will see the environment I'm riding towards but you dont see anything of the board.
      With a bike this is easy since a chestmounted gopro gives you a good sense of what the rider is riding and where, but on an electric skateboard all this sense of what I am riding disappears.

    The Firefly remote is great, unless you live in a major city like New York. The amount of interference here is incredible and will cause disconnects and errors. Your board is incredible though, great job!

      hm, neven been to such a large city with my board. Its pretty good code with checksum and all, so no error inputs should occur. Never ever had a millisecond of signalloss in my past years of riding in some big citys in germany, so that would actually be pretty interesting to see.
      I germany we are also a bit more strict with how strong a device can send

      nope, definitly not. I have tried everything, the tiny 5mm that your finger has to move without any real resistance and the high power my board makes, makes it very annoying to ride.
      I rode around 2000km with this nunchuck and never got thrown off, but its just not as smooth as this scroll wheel with good resistance

    How about connecting external battery maybe from a backpack then you can increase ranger due to bigger battery that you can carry on your back

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому

      A little to complicated, if you want to ride long range and dont care about weight you can simply mount a battery on top in the middle of the board where no feet are. Backpack battery would be very dangorous, way to much weight so high up there.

      Energy density isn't as high so he won't get the range he was looking for

    • @Pryside
      @Pryside  5 років тому

      exactly, very low energy density. They would weigh way more and take up much more space then my 18650s. And on top of that lipos are basically trash after 100 full cycles while mine should last at least 1000cycles.

    • @ryccoh
      @ryccoh 5 років тому

      Very true although the power density is so amazing that I still love Lipos. I used them for my coilgun and am able to discharge over 20kW from 2S1P 4.4Ah batteries, even though it's just for milliseconds it still blows my mind.

    • @CeleronS1
      @CeleronS1 5 років тому

      @@Pryside I think you are just unlucky. Lipos are awesome and they very similar to lions these days. Easy you can get 400+ cyles and amps are awesome. Im using 2x6S 10ah's on my electric bike and I have driven over 1.5k kilometers with them already. And its nice to know if I decide to make some alternation I can get easily get constant 5KW feed form those two in series. And best part it took me only 5-10 minutes add whole thing to ebike.

      Als Motoren will ich die 6380 170KV verwenden. Akku: 2* 12000mah 6s (turnigy Graphen) in Serie.
      ESC bin ich mir noch unsicher. Entweder die neue focbox Unitymedia oder die flipsky vesc. Vielleicht kannst du was zu den ESC sagen.
      Was ich aber noch nicht ganz verstehe bezüglich des anti Spark switches: es gibt doch bereits xt90 mit einem integrierten anti Spark. Warum kann man die nicht verwenden. Zu viel current?

      Ich will ja keine kabel stecken wenn ich mein fahrzeug anschalte. Der XT90Antispark hat n widerstand am anfang im stecker drin damit er die kondensatoren auflädt beim einstecken. Ich mach das gleiche elektrisch mit ner schaltung.

      You are propably right, but I got my Anet fully upgraded better than almost anybody out there and it has 1500h of printtime so far and still works great. Thats why I still think its the best budget printer for 100€ absolutly unbeatable.
