Thanks Chris! I really appreciate it! Check out Cedric Burnside, Cam Kimbrough and Trenton Ayers to get some more of this style! These are some of the best players today IMO keeping up the style!
Infinite thanks for all your videos. What you share with us is awesome and allowed me to play some of the tunes that I absolutely love in life. Much respect to you, sir.
Yes! the one I was waiting for couldn’t get this one down by ear thank you for the help man best channel out there props to you for teaching the true hill country blues🙌
Love your lesson, thank you! Hope to see ya'll at the next North Mississippi Hill Country Blues Picnic, held annually late June in Waterford, MS (not too far from Memphis). RL's talented sons and grandson Cedric, amongst others play for two days. Awesome music
44 pistol and shake em on down from the "too bad Jim" album are some of RLs songs i would kill for a lesson on, but still you already got more burnside lessons than anyone so cant complain really, awsome vid as allways
I love RL and I love your lessons!!! Could you maybe teach a lesson on “Just Like A Woman” by RL or “Feels So Good #1” by Junior Kimbrough so I can practice something else in this tuning? Thank you so much for all of your videos!!
Thanks a lot for doing this request. I was struggling to work out the horse gallop bit. Much appreciated. I have been using the same RL video to learn his songs then found you. Love your stuff and thank you again
Our last Zoom lesson we were talking about technique and effects. Now we have the horse gallop 👍👍 Thanks for another RL lesson and thanks for keeping learning guitar so interesting.
How about "See My Jumper Hanging On the Line"? The video on Alan Lomax Archive was my introduction to hill country blues. But I never could nail the rhythm part...
Hi Crazy running into your channel. And, am so glad your doing this. I think you're doing this song fine and just the fact you care about it at all is great! I'm no expert at playing in R.L.'s style but I can play it somewhat because I toured with him between 1981 - 1994. A few gigs in '99 too sat in. Mainly harp/some guitar (Acoustic Stories and Well...Well...Well...) are the 2 CD's I'm on with him. I play my own stuff based on R.L.'s style. But, I did learn Skinny Woman and now I'll relearn it watching you. But, I swear he tapped his fingers below the strings when we played live to get that drum effect. A bit different than in this video of him. I use my knuckles. It's a difficult song to sing right while keeping everything together on guitar. Even though it seems simple. I also think you may be putting a few cool embellishments in your version that neither R.L. did, or I do. The very first record back in '76 I bought of R.L.'s was under Arhoolie Mississippi Delta Blues Volume II with Joe Callicott. But, those players were from the north Mississippi Hill Country. In your opinion what do you think are the differences between Mississippi Delta Blues, and Hill Country Blues? Mississippi Fred McDowell was considered a Delta Bluesman, but his home was Como kinda in between the Hill country, and the Delta. Thanks and good luck! Jon Beckley Morris
Wow Jon thats cool- thanks for sharing! Yes you're right, RL does tap his fingers on the fretboard to make the percussive sound on this song. There's a few differences between delta and hill country. Delta blues usually loosely follows a 12 or 8 bar progression (although most players would add a measure here and there to match the lyrics) but Hill Country Blues mostly uses one chord vamps and riffs with percussion to make a groove. The most obvious difference to me is the use of percussion in Hill County Blues. Of course there is a lot of variation in both genres and some overlap from the two styles too. I like them both! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@FeedbackGuitarAcademy Well thanks for getting back to me. I'm no expert guitar player, but sitting there next to R.L. for many years you get it if you want it. I can do his chunking thing Jumper On The Line standard, and his style in G. But, I never wanted to learn his songs, rather write songs from stories he told me based on his style. Which I've recorded some of. Thanks for pointing out the difference Delta, and Hill Country Blues. As I recall Fred McDowell hangs on the 1 alot, but sings the 4,5 as R.L. did. It took me a alot more than a minute to accompany him on the harp where it finally became natural. How could I reach you seperate from the comment section? On my UA-cam channel Jon Beckley Morris sometines I'm playing guitar, piano, harp underneath telling R.L. stories, or other music stories. Anyway, thanks again, and please let me know how I can reach you.
Dude, thank you so much! I love this version of the song. That entire RL one hour video is him at his best. ua-cam.com/video/BLF-f4kUtAw/v-deo.html Nice breakdown of what’s going on. 👍🏻
