Argh, I am literally looking for a review to compare these three brands as they have my final choices of a harness for my rescue dog after researching online 😩 I’m going to have to just find shops that sell them so I can compare them all in person.
I’m so sorry I just watched the video about losing Rancho. I’m so sorry. Here is something that helped me, after losing my soul dog in April. Our animals are more than just our pets - they are our fiercest protectors our tolerant therapists, our triest and most loyal friends. In a world where everyone leaves, they show us what it means to stay. They remind us that some hearts will always love us, even when we feel unworthy. Omg thank you so much for this video! I purchased a blue9 harness about a month ago and was using the front clip while teaching my friends dog not to pull and it definitely made it easier. She's gotten way better at not pulling so I've switched to the clip on the back of the harness and it looks way more comfortable for her. One thing I noticed is that the front clip causes the pressure from pulling to focus on one shoulder much more then the other while the dog is pulling, which I imagine could cause stiff/sore muscles in that shoulder even in a harness that is perfect when the back attachment is used.
I really liked your description of the various dog harnesses. I have a Shepherd mix and she loves bike joring. We both are new to the sport. I understand Shepherds have a tendency to have hip problems later in life. Is an adjustable harness or a x-backed harness the best for a shepherd’s hips?
After watching your clearly illustrated explanation about how the dog's shoulders need to move freely, my eyes were opened and I abandoned my plan to buy the Julius K9 harness. Instead I went for one of your recommendations, the Hurtta padded Y harness, and I am extremely happy with it! So is my dog! She is a shelter rescue with some issues and needs the extra safety of a harness. I never liked harnesses before because I thought they encourage dogs to pull, but that is not happening. She is so comfortable in it and moves freely on or off leash and doesn't pull at all. We both feel more secure and relaxed. The padding is great and the chest strap is WELL behind her elbows. The design is simple, not bulky, and just works! I'm so glad I watched your video! Thank you!
This is such a lovely video. So informative, and unlike most others, it talks about the nuances that you really need to come to a decision. I had been wandering in the www for a few days, and I am glad that I eventually came here before making a wrong choice that could have had an everlasting impact on my baby. I just want to jump in to the other videos in this channel.
Your recommended brands weren't immediately available, but I found a Y shaped Roman style PetSafe harness after seeing this. At the very least it's a great improvement over the collar that my 1 year old shepherd was choking herself with when pulling hard. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this! The step in ones have always been what we’ve used but I’ve always seen the chafing and frcition burns but I didn’t know what harness to get next. At least now I know exactly what I need. Thank you!
I bought a no-pull harness that's really easy to slip over my dog's head and then clip under her chest. I chose it because she has a tendency to get scared of everything. She got scared of some rustling flowers and nearly bolted into a business street (She's 50% American Pit Bull, 20% German Shephard, 100% Chicken.) Thank God she had this on because it actually sent her falling to the ground so she didn't get run over. Also, most of the no-pull harnesses I saw also have a clip on the back to use once you teach them not to pull any more.
Very helpful thank you! I believe that a front clip harness is better than using just a collar during training, to save the dog's neck and throat from damage. I know it sounds a bit silly, but I rather my dog's gait change a bit, instead of having a trachea or throat injuries. Ideally, the best way to train loose leash walking is on a backclip harness, but a front clip is the next best. You can actually get y shaped front clip harnesses, unlike the one at 10:35, that one has the restrictive strap on the chest. I don't believe in those. Y shaped front clip harnesses like those from Ruffwear, Perfect Fit, or Balance Blue 9, do not restrict movement very much. It's actually been proven now that harnesses do not cause pulling. Harnesses make pulling a bit easier because they don't restrict breathing or cause pain/discomfort like when pulling on a collar, but what's important to remember is that the training is what gets the dog to walk nicely, not the tool. The tool is meant as a safety device so that during training, their sensitive throats and faces won't be damaged. Even if a tool is used to train loose leash walking, it often will not train the desired behavior entirely. Training is the key, the harness is like a seatbelt. We wear seatbelts over our chest and torso, not our necks.
Really good video straight to the point and lots of info, I've had dogs all my life and have become a bit neardy about harnesses after having some dogs that were hard to find a fitting harness for, but I've never seen such clear examples with how much certain harnesses affects the dogs way to walk. For a larger dog around waist hight that pulls I would suggest a harness with a handle preferably a y front but they are not so common, that way you can just grabb the handle and get a lot more control when needed. It can also help to position the dog correctly when training.
The most detailed and accurate explanations I have ever seen. Very organized and very informative. Not only refer to dog harness but the way it's presented. I suppose the lady is very successful in her professional. Excellent.
I think my comments got deleted as I moved my old youtube channel to a new one. Watching your videos helped me choose the best harness for my dog, and as your recommendation - I chose the Line Harness Grip. I also checked out your review on Julius K9 Y-Harness and decided with Line harness because my dog has very narrow chest. Thank you again for your response and the good reviews. Looking forward to your videos and Rancho :)
Out of all the harnesses you recommended in the description, which one do you think would suit a reactive dog that can slip out if she goes backward hard enough? I’ve had such a hard time finding one thats both comfortable and makes it harder to get out of. She can also slip out of a collar, she’s a small dog and I just want to keep us both safe while out on her walks. (This video was very informative! I will definitely refer back to it when harness shopping)
Hi sorry to butt in months later, but a suggestion could be to look into the harnesses with an extra chest strap? I don’t have much information about how well they will fit a dog’s anatomy, but I’ve heard a few people with the same problem as yours who have been very happy about harnesses like that! And I think it would be fairly comfortable and non-restrictive considering it’s basically a Roman style Y shaped harness but with that extra strap under the chest!
You can try to google “dog harness no escape” to see what I mean! They do come in a few different designs and again, I don’t know how well they fit a dog’s anatomy, but they might be your solution!
Thank you so very much for your informative video. We have a maltipoo that is larger than normal and we have had a challenge finding a good harness. I am now better informed regarding the different types of harnesses. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, Josh. I really appreciate that. 😊 I'm no expert, but If this video helps someone choose the right harness for their dog, I'll be more than happy :)
What type of harness do you recommend for a chihuahua/beagle hybrid who is more on the beagle size in height and weighs about 20 pounds? I'm trying to find one that my rescue can't easily escape from because she keeps slipping out of the one I have for her even though it's as tight as I can get it while it's also comfortable for her. She's about 3 years old at present and turning 4.
Rancho!!! Thanks for this! I needed to get a better harness for my big dog, Roman harness looks like the one for my lab/pit bull. Your drawing is awesome, the skeletal pics are so informative!!!! Brilliant. Thank you! I love you Rancho! 🥰🐕💋🌹
Thank you so much for this video, I learned a lot! I've been thinking of getting my dogs padded harnesses, but it's been hard to find actually good information about what kind of harnesses would be best and most comfortable.
This is the most useful information about harnesses. Can’t thank you enough. Could you please tell me what type of harness should I use for my 45 days old gsd? Thanks in advance
Thank you for this very detailed video. I am horrified that I did not do the research first before just going to the local pet store to pick up a harness that looks like it fits. The Non-Stop brand looked like the best option for my dog. I love him to pieces and want him to be comfortable and secure.
Thanks for this video! My puppy started with a norwegian type harness but he easily managed to step out of it so we had to upgrade. He's now 2 years old and we've been using a Rabbitgoo Y harness for a while (we rarely use the front clip unless walking in busy places). As I researched options, I always saw a lot of "no pull" harnesses were non padded and movement seemed to be restricted... Somehow it never felt right for us and seeing the comparison assures me I chose right. I'll be looking to upgrade soon but Hurtta is not easily sold in my country (and through Amazon and such it becomes much more expensive than it should be...). Any other recommendations would be most welcome :) Again, thanks for the info! I took notes on the correct fitting of the harness to check if there's anything affecting his movement.
Using the two finger gap method with a non-stretch strap across the back can result in damage to the dog's back if your dog is of a configuration where the chest expands considerably during exertion such as running full speed. As the chest expands the strap is pulled down into the back, stressing the spine.
Hi Could you please let me know what the brands of Y harnesses and no pull harnesses are that you used? I am trying to find the best harness for my two Border Terriers. Thanks!
Why do you think most police dogs wear norwegian style harnesses if it restricts the shoulder movement? And then I'd also be interested in hearing about saddle harnesses that are similar to norwegian style harnesses, but where the shoulder blade isn't covered. What do you think about them?
For a pug with a shortened palate (palate surgery), is non stop dogwear , dog Copenhaguen or hurtta better? Or do you recommend another brand or model?"
I have a 12 y.o. 17 lb. furry dog that wants to pull in the opposite direction! Which no-pull training tool would work for this? We take his favorite 'longer' walk, and on the way home, he literally drags his feet! I hate to 'pull him along' behind me. I probably need to be trained!
I have seen that. It doesn't change the shape of the chest strap though. I know, I know. Many poeple swear by it. I just wanted to show how it affects a dog's movement. I think for short walks it's not gonna do any harm.
I’ve been researching harnesses and halti products and I’ve read lots about them basically teaching your puppy/dog to pull and lunge forwards! Harnesses look very uncomfortable for the dogs - just imagine those straps under your armpits as you’re pulling and running. Like husky dogs for instance who wear harnesses that enables them to be able to pull sleds. I think I’m going to stick with a good quality, soft collar and a good lead. I’ve been totally put off by the extendable leads too!
can you please tell me which brand or model is that roman style harness at 4:06 on the right? i like how on that one dogs front legs are free. normally this type of harnesses tend to dig under their front legs, under armpit.. this one has that strap is really far back on middle of dogs body which makes his front legs move completely freely. i have checked all of those linked in description but i cannot recognize this one and i really wanna get this exact one
I appreciate your video, now I’m more confused than ever though, I was just going to order any old halter because my vet told me my dog could possibly have a trachea collapse so she recommended a halter but now I do not know which one would be best for that situation, can you recommend a type of harness that would be best for her?
I don't know much about the springer, but I think any good Y-shaped harness will do well. My favourite is the Nonstop Line Harness, or the Hurtta Padded Y-harness.
I have a Norwegian Elkhound 8 months old. I am finding it so hard to find information on this breed. I have read they get large boxy chests. What type of harness would you recommend for this type of dog. Would the Y shape fit him.
I have the problem that my puppy doesn’t like his y-harness, and I hesitate to try a better quality y-harness due to it. He won’t try to get it off, doesn’t chew on it, is fine walking in it, but he hides when I prepare for walk, and he looks very uncomfortable when I put it on. Doesn’t try to escape, but immediately after it’s clipped on, he runs off with arched back, tail down, and digs furiously in his bed. I’m sorta hoping a nice padded one will be ok, as it should be more comfortable, but I worry. If it’s the head through the loop that bugs him, he’ll never be happy. He’s almost 6 months old, japanese spitz. Worn three different sizes of the same harness from 8 weeks old.
I am not one that uses or suggests the use of a harness however your video is excellent and I would suggest that folks pay close attention to what you say here, very well done
I loved ur vids and im having doubts now im 12 looking harnesses for my furry pooch max the pug 🤣. Anyway , So roman ones are the most favourable ones Right. Will roman ones fit for an almost 2 year old pug ?? Also is roman ones or no pull ones more favourable for pugs since its small also what are reflective harnesses are these bad for dogs health
hi, I don't know a lot about pugs but I suggest you try them on first as I can imagine their body structure is a little different than other dogs'. Maybe get one that is adjustable. Reflective harnesses are ok ;)
It is the best video on the topic I've ever seen. Really! Finally somebody made it so clear! Thank you very much:) I am aware it is off the topic but would you consider to share more about your Canicross experience with Rancho, please? Specially, the way you started... My Groenendael is almost a year old and I can't wait to start training with him. There are tones of information out there but we feel more related to the Ranchos case, who is not only our favourite UA-camr but also is a Belgian Shepherd:) Basically, we know all that nibbling and panting into face and jumping to a ceiling etc. drill :P Thank you, our hearts with you. Hi Laura & iO, thanks so much for saing that. It means a lot. It's a good idea to make a video about our canicross experience. Thanks for the tip. :) Yeah, Belgians are pretty special ..lol
Hello, thank you for that great video! Can you recommand which type of safe and comfortable harness I should use on my boxer for an aerial cable dog runner. Thanks!
Hello, thank you for the video! Do you have an opinion on the 2Hounds Freedom harness - I see it recommended a lot, but I'm now noticing it does sit across the shoulder so we should probably switch our dog to a different harness? What do you think of Ruffwear? Our dog is young and we're still training her not to pull when she gets too excited. She chokes herself on the collar.

Brilliant this is so knowledgeable.. Thank you for sharing this incredible insight
Thanks so much my friend 🥰 Glad you liked it.
My dog always used to wear a Norwegian harness and she could not run and we got her a step in no size fit her so we got a roman and she was happy
Thanks guys - an informative video and very interesting. Have a great weekend.
You're right this video was awesome
Thanks for watching Smudgie 🥰
Which harness do you recommend for a 53 lb. GSD who likes to back out of her collar?
Probably the Hurtta Y harness or Nonstop line harness. There are links in the description on the video. You can take a look 😊
You can combine the Julius K9 with a Y piece seperate sold. Love my Stealth Harnass.
I have seen that. It doesn't change the shape of the chest strap though. I know, I know. Many poeple swear by it. I just wanted to show how it affects a dog's movement. I think for short walks it's not gonna do any harm.
This was so helpful and informative, thank you!
You're so welcome!
Best harness review video I’ve seen! Thanks a lot!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for this well explained video. 👍
this is super informative, thank you!
I don't know what brand this harness is. I know 4dox has similar harnesses but not sure if they deliver internationally.
What do you recommend for a Standard American Eskimo Dog, 37#s...I have troub!e with the harness cause g matting. Please help. Excellent video
I appreciate your video, now I’m more confused than ever though, I was just going to order any old halter because my vet told me my dog could possibly have a trachea collapse so she recommended a halter but now I do not know which one would be best for that situation, can you recommend a type of harness that would be best for her?
wow thanks for this really detailed video!
Thanks for watching 🤗
Great video, very informative. Thanks!
No problem. Glad you liked it. :)
Can you suggest a dog harness for a Dutch Shepherd using a springer on a bike?
I don't know much about the springer, but I think any good Y-shaped harness will do well. My favourite is the Nonstop Line Harness, or the Hurtta Padded Y-harness.
I have a Norwegian Elkhound 8 months old. I am finding it so hard to find information on this breed. I have read they get large boxy chests. What type of harness would you recommend for this type of dog. Would the Y shape fit him.
Definitely, Rancho is quite deep-chested too. We now have the Non-Stop Line harness and it fits him well.
I like the harness easy walk I always buy it for my dogs
What do you think about the “rabbitgoo” harness it’s most popular on Amazon
It's not bad, as long as you get a good fit.
Great video!☺️☺️ Super helpful
Thx for this very informative video. A roman style harness is also the one my Fenna likes best👊👋
You're right
She knows what’s best for her 🤗
What do you think of the "k9 IDC Longwalk"? It looks very interesting to me.
Just made a video about it 😊
This is a terrific video. Concise and well articulated. Btw where is your accent from??
thanks :) We're from the Czech Republic.
I am not one that uses or suggests the use of a harness however your video is excellent and I would suggest that folks pay close attention to what you say here, very well done
I liked it
Thanks a lot my friend 😉 I do hope it helps people make the right choices for their dogs.
Is your dog a rough collie shepherd mix
Thank you so much this is save me and my dog ❤
Awesome 😊 glad you liked it!
Great information! Thank you.
Hezký, ale já chci víc Ranečka😁🙏big like a přeji hezký víkend Ranečkovic💕🐺
Hehehe! Ranecek bude 😂
It is the best video on the topic I've ever seen. Really! Finally somebody made it so clear! Thank you very much:)
I am aware it is off the topic but would you consider to share more about your Canicross experience with Rancho, please? Specially, the way you started... My Groenendael is almost a year old and I can't wait to start training with him. There are tones of information out there but we feel more related to the Ranchos case, who is not only our favourite UA-camr but also is a Belgian Shepherd:) Basically, we know all that nibbling and panting into face and jumping to a ceiling etc. drill :P
Thank you, our hearts with you.
Laura & iO
Hi Laura & iO, thanks so much for saing that. It means a lot. It's a good idea to make a video about our canicross experience. Thanks for the tip. :) Yeah, Belgians are pretty special ..lol
Great exposé on the different types of harness 😊
Thanks friend 🥰
Amazing information!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ty show much for yore lessons.
Hello, thank you for that great video! Can you recommand which type of safe and comfortable harness I should use on my boxer for an aerial cable dog runner. Thanks!
hey, thanks. There are links in the description of this video. I think any one of them should be fine as long as it's a good fit.
This was very helpful. Thank you soooo much!!!
You're so welcome!
What do you think about the X shaped harnesses?
Hello, thank you for the video! Do you have an opinion on the 2Hounds Freedom harness - I see it recommended a lot, but I'm now noticing it does sit across the shoulder so we should probably switch our dog to a different harness? What do you think of Ruffwear? Our dog is young and we're still training her not to pull when she gets too excited. She chokes herself on the collar.
Hello my friend and Rancho 🐕 So nice content 👍 Thank you for sharing 😊😍🐾
Bless you!
Thanks for watching 🥰
Fantastic things I never thought about !
