Good luck Nick! You inspired me to start running at 33, and I recently run my first park run ever! And now my wife has also joined in, and we're both going running together a few times a week, spending more time together and improving as a team. Sub 2.20 or not, you've already done so much for us and had a huge impact on so many people. You're an inspiration. Thank you!
Love the way you've approached this block, and love the way you're always trying to find small changes that could make a difference. Sub 2.20 or not, your journey has been incredible to watch. If hard work and dedication were the only factors, you would smash 2.20. And since the other factors are out of your control, whatever happens you can be incredibly proud of the work you've put in. Boomshakala Bester, you gonna Breakthrough in Berlin Baby.
Always tricky balancing all life elements and attempting to break 2:20. But hey I wouldn’t have it any other way. Embracing the challenge and it keeps me motivated in so many other aspects of my life. Running teaches you how to work hard. Onwards and upwards! 🙌🏻
Good luck Nick! You’ll smash it👊🏻. Started running in February and your videos have been a massive source of inspiration for me. I run my first half marathon on Sunday and can’t wait!
Excellent post, great for the motivation. 2 small children this side also (of the non-sleeping variety), coupled with the most consistent element of my training being the leg injury! When you finish in 2hrs 1?min., feel free to stroll off, get a shower, changed, 3 course dinner, bit of sight seeing and a few beers, then take a leisurely saunter back to the finish line to see me drag my carcass over the line. Hopefully! All the best, come on Berlin! 👊🏻
So many factors that we can't control. But you are doing all you can. And I think you can focus this one time on your performance at Berlin. Forget us 🎉
Really hoping everything clicks into place this time Nick. Fine margins and executing those fine details. You've had a great training block. Let's goooooo! 👊
Again great video! It was nice from to you described how different running with/without cam recordings. I mean the mindset. I of course will miss the race video, but totally understand to run without it. You worked really hard for this, Im rooting for you! And I will be glad to wach the video after the race without footage as well! Good luck Nick!
Vamos Nick, el lado bueno es que esta famosa barrera de 2:20 te ha hecho mantenerte más motivado aún, tú me inspiraste a volver a correr hace poco más de un año, cuando vi tu video corriendo una competencia de 5km en el parque
All the best Nick! I'm also running Berlin and it will be my first major after running Sydney Marathon as a training run on 15 September. May see you, may not as I'm aiming for my first sub 3.
You will get many chances to wear the head cap in other races but right now breaking 2:20 is your priority and it should be.All the best, hope this time you do it.
Good luck Nick! I will be watching in TV and Live timing as well 😃 I will run Valencia Half in October, hoping to run sub 1h25min, I believe it's possible and proud to run my trainings in BestAthletics T-shirt, maybe in Valencia as well 😉
Process over results. But here's hoping you have as few bumps as possible on race day so you can be satisfied with both the effort and the result. I'm running a half tune-up race this weekend, ahead of Chicago in 3 weeks.
I will be watching this event live so you better be able too do it 😜 My target for this year is to run 3:59 per km in marathon and my test day is one week after yourse berlin. I will try my best is Skopje in Macedonia 🤞 hope as well it will be not to hot.
Awesome Nick, I'm rooting for you! Any tips or advice when it comes to shin pain? Can this point to wrong shoes, lack of stretching? Whenever I want to up my mileage I always get to a point where my shins start to hurt even though I'm not out of breath at all.
It’s something a lot of runners suffer with. Especially while your body adapts to running. When I had that problem when I first started out, I found that compression socks helped a lot. But as always if it gets worse than 7/10 pain, cross train instead and see a physio 👊🏻
Hey Nick, been watching your vids for months now and loving the journey to the sub 2:20. I do have a question though, I really want to start chasing down the sub 3 marathon and doing the 6 majors, all the marathons seem fully booked or I just get a ‘unfortunately not this time’ email when I enter a ballot. Any tips on how to get into the marathons? Boomshakalaka 🔥
I honestly envy you that you can run that much mileage while having 2 kids. I have a 1 year old daughter and I run about 50km/week and my gf keep saying I run too much 😅
Have you been loosing some weight too or is that irrellevant you think,? I will follow you on tv from Denmark. I really hope for you to break this 2.20 maraton time you are in all aspects a great athlete at all and really you deserve to break it and get a time under 2.20 in Berlin. REally good luck from me. Inga DK.
Looks like a great preparation. I'm looking forward your video on your race strategy. Curious to know if you will use HR during the race to decide about the pace, especially because of your HM experience. Turns out that enough deep sleep is also important for muscle growth, is that something you have been focussing on as well?
Yes for sure. Banking as much deep sleep as I can over the next 10 days. I’ll peep again HR but won’t religiously run to it. We’ll definitely analyse it afterwards 😉
I know you use Garmin 965... it would be interesting having one of your clip in which you share your feeling with this smartwatch. i.e. pros and cons, suggestions on how to use it.
I'm curious why none of your key changes going into this training block focused on getting stronger mentally? IME, this would improve your probability of PB'ing as much as anything else you mentioned. Good luck in Berlin... i'll be interested in how you do.
Good luck from Ireland 🇮🇪, even though you're an Adidas athlete do you think you would do any better if you could choose to run in one of the other Super shoes?
For me that’s it. I would be much more confident if it was 5 degrees. But it isn’t, and will never be at Berlin. So let’s still give it all I’ve got and try stay cool.
As an adidas sponsored athlete, have you heard anything about the release of the adios pro 4’s please ? Would make sense for them to be available for Berlin …
You’ll see visuals of them on the 25th of September. There’ll be a limited release after Berlin (I think), with much more availably a few months later. It’s an insane shoe 🔥
Thanks champ. 50 Best Athletics runners doing Berlin again this year 💙🤍 lots of motivation in that. I’ll see you guys at Winchester half on Sat. I’ll be at the finish supporting
We don't need content for Berlin. You have worked too hard. Just put full focus on the race and giving it all you got. Good luck!!! Go smash it!
Trust me I’ll be fully focused! 🙌🏻 looking forward to making the post race vlog. But in that moment I’ll be fully focused!
Good luck Nick! You inspired me to start running at 33, and I recently run my first park run ever! Great video, keen to see how you get on. Was wondering if you would be in the Adios Pro 4, but the evo1 are gold dust.

@@justalilbester good luck man!
I have Amsterdam Marathon 20th October 😅 Good luck for Berlin you can do it
My predictions : new pb 2.18. Your motivation n discipline super amazing

I hope so. They felt incredible!
Hey Nick, been watching your vids for months now and loving the journey to the sub 2:20.

Boomshakalaka 🔥
It’s tricky, especially as the demand in running and races is climbing every year.
There’s always charity entries.
But keep trying, you never know 🤞🏻
I honestly envy you that you can run that much mileage while having 2 kids. I have a 1 year old daughter and I run about 50km/week and my gf keep saying I run too much 😅
One of the hardest life balances to get right. I don’t always, but I always try 🙌🏻
I taking german this year
If you still can't crack it, maybe spending 1 month training at altitude would help you get an edge.
I have shredded a bit more than in the past. I’ll try to for a pre race Dexa scan and get nice accurate data which I’ll share. Thanks

Training towards my first marathon which will be the Cape Town Marathon. 20 Oct 2024 I guess I will find out if I have done enough for a sub 4:30.
Do your bester nick!
Love it! 🧀
Can you describe that 54321 workout? Sounds great!
Yes sure it’s on my Strava.
5/4/3/2/1k (at mp, and getting faster)
With 1k easier between for recovery
I know you use Garmin 965... it would be interesting having one of your clip in which you share your feeling with this smartwatch. i.e. pros and cons, suggestions on how to use it.
Yeah sure. I’ll get on that after Berlin. I’m also reviewing a couple of other watches coming up, so I’ll share my thoughts on those too.
I'm curious why none of your key changes going into this training block focused on getting stronger mentally? IME, this would improve your probability of PB'ing as much as anything else you mentioned.
Good luck in Berlin... i'll be interested in how you do.
I’m mentally as ready as I can be and I’ll be mentally tough on race day too. Always been one of my strongest attributes. Thanks 👊🏻 let’s go get it!!
Good luck from Ireland 🇮🇪, even though you're an Adidas athlete do you think you would do any better if you could choose to run in one of the other Super shoes?
Thanks 🇮🇪 na I think the adidas Pro Evo’s are the best marathon shoe around
just curious what is your adidas shoe rotation? what do you use for easy miles, speed sessions
I’ll do a video on this soon. Boston 12, and Supernova for easier runs. Faster runs: Prime X, Pro 3, Sen 10
What do you think is the most important variable that needs to be right? I think it's temperature, if it's too hot I'm done with running
For me that’s it. I would be much more confident if it was 5 degrees. But it isn’t, and will never be at Berlin. So let’s still give it all I’ve got and try stay cool.
I predict 2:18:38 exactly lol

Anybody know any safe dirt roads to run on in Pretoria/joburg
Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve, Hedianga Farm, Wolwespruit. All trail runs, some loops more technical than others
With two kids as well, I hear you on nursery germs. What is your mileage like when you are not in a training block?
best of luck Nick for sure you will do it. Why I feel like your confidence is lacking
Boomshakalala🫡
Boom Shakalaka 💥
You do enough content mate, you deserve a free pass. Just focus on the race, leave the cameras behind.
Great honest words Champ...You've got this!!! 💙💪🏼🤍
Thanks champ. 50 Best Athletics runners doing Berlin again this year 💙🤍 lots of motivation in that.
