I think a few viewers here might benefit by being reminded that this is just all fun and games and that if the hermits have actual problems with each other they can talk that out behind the scenes, so everything we get to see is to be asumed to be alright.
I get why some may feel weird about the Doc-villager-arc, I mean if I was Doc in this situation, for me there would defenitely be a crossed line there, but I am not, nobody of us is, we don't even realy know them, so we shouldn't project our emotions onto this.
And if you find to not be able to keep yourself emotionally distant: take a step back, take some time. This is entertainment, if it is causing you stress something is going wrong and it is totally fine to pause and reflect.
If there actually was a problem, both of them are adults, they can solve it themselfes. And if they can't then there are way bigger problems which also nobody of us could solve through the comments lol

Thanks for the reminder. I had to step away from Doc's videos because his pettiness this season was getting on my nerves... Now I just put his videos on mute to still give him the views, but this season I'm actually being more selective about the hermits I effectively watch.
great observation. there was a bit doc and someone was doing and doc was getting really mad. but it was a bit and doc was acting. but of course, someone made a very insulting comment about doc. I mean get a grip.

Sell books for 64 diamond blocks apiece so you don't lose the permit. No one will complain about the price if no one needs books, but the permit will be reissued if books aren't for sale.

i think they'll be able to keep it on technicality at least, the books are *available* even if they're a free gift with purchase of drink (also the rules are up to them all to interpret, the only person against them doing this would probably be doc)

But if there was an alternative price (like diamond blocks or deepslate emerald ore) then they would be for sale on their own.

I would love for the "spare drinks" to say "cup return" or "used cups", or something to that effect. Indicating that they did enjoy the drink at the cafe. But they can also get takeaway if they want to keep it.
The amount of shenanigans that these permits are causing is fantastic.
I love how much this small change feels like an actual real life planned economy. Everything instantly turns into gaming the system and abusing the power of fiat authority.
Something that might be cool is turning the drinks into modified water bottles so people could actually drink them lol
Maybe even potions with some fun effects, like what if coffee gave you swiftness, tea gave you jump boost and hot chocolate gave you regeneration? That’d be very fun

@@YumiSparkles unfortunately consuming a potion (or stew) clears the NBT data, so you'd have to write a really complicated (and unreliable) datapack to keep track of the consuming of the custom items

The drink models are so cute! Phsst did SUCH a good job. And who doesn't want to enjoy a nice drink and a book surrounded by cute little cats. This is clearly the ideal business model.
(Though if you're thinking of cat names, I feel they either need to be super fancy and posh sounding... or food/drinks themed.)

He just wants to convince them that duping sand in the Minecraft way is better than duping sand through constantly trimmed and replaced chunks. To show them that if you're cheating anyway you might as cheat in a way that's easier and takes advantage of vanilla Minecraft mechanics.

What you should do is offer to sell the books for a ridiculous price so Doc can't call you out on "not selling your items on the permit"
(If you just sell the drinks, he could claim that you aren't actually selling the books like you are meant to and get another permit put into the system for books)

The Kitty Cafe selling tea and then giving away books brought this to mind. Back in 2012 I managed a non-profit and we had a fund raising event. Unfortunately, the board refused to allow us to get a one-day license from the liquor control board to sell wine. I discovered that giving away wine to legal age people was perfectly legal in our state. So, we sold empty plastic wine glasses for $5 per glass and then filled the glasses with a serving of complimentary wine. Made a lot of money from it. 😀
Cleo now has the most creeper-proof shop on the server.

Also, the 'buy the drink, get a book free' is a lot like what some speakeasies did, where you pay for something small and get a drink for free, because prohibition was against the sale of alcohol, not the consumption.

A certain plant used to be illegal to sell where I lived - but, you could "gift" it however much you liked. Your Kitty Cafe scheme is exactly analogous to how several legally-grey businesses used to sell very expensive t-shirts and stickers with extra "free gifts"

Love the shop! A book return idea. if you lock the hoppers, perrhaps with a daylight sensor, customers could return the books to the shelves and then they would refill once a MC day.

Actually sell the books..but at a high price...then you can offer to give it away with the drink as well. At that point you can show doc that nobody is buying books, only your drinks. And you are trying to sell the books, nobody wants them is all.
To add a layer of protection from having to pay Doc, you might set up a second book shop where the prices are higher than the the three diamonds people have to pay for the drinks, then advertise that you are giving the books away with drink purchase at the cafe... perhaps a bulk mailing deal with pearl.

I like the idea of selling the books by themselves for 20 diamonds each, to prove to Doc that nobody wants to buy books, it's just hot beverages they want. That's not your fault.
Oh I absolutely love the kitty cafe! I know it would be a lot of work but wouldnt it be nice that every cat there has a story? At least where I live there's little posters about all the cats that tell their personality, age, if they were a rescue and so on. It would be a nice touch

I’m not sure if anybody else has suggested this, but why not go to the permit office and register to own the permit to sell coffee and tea? You would be the only one requesting it, that way, Doc can’t find a workaround to own the permit that sells the tea. I also love that you out-Doc’d Doc 😂👏👏

That chiseled bookshelf and hopper setup to sell books is such a clever way to do it! It looks cool and it even shows when you’re running out of certain books!

3:44 Public Service Announcement: This is a classic example of why Advanced Tooltips should be enabled for any type of Minecraft player.
I highly recommend having a hopper underneath the return book barrel, and a water stream to send the books to roof storage. That way it will be easier to reload them to their correct place.
Doc might argue that there's no other way to sell the books, so buying a drink still counts. What if you say that a book without a drink costs 1,000,000 diamonds, so that you are selling the books, but no one will buy them like that and everyone will still buy a drink?
you should make sure to put on those signs that the book is optional so if anyone asks you can say that there is no way to know if they took the free book or not and therefore you cant actually tie the number of distributed books to sales of drinks lol

Cafe items would work so well as a custom-modeled suspicious stews.
When the kitty on top of the building gets a body, if its tail comes down the side of the building, that might make a nice back staircase up so you can get to the chests easier~

I really love all the custom content on the server. It's all aesthetic, so it doesn't ruin the vanilla feel that's so important for hermitcraft, but it adds some absolutely necessary pop to what used to be a rather achromatic game
Do books come out of the shelves with a hopper, if I remember? “Do not reshelve books” bookshelves could be added by the door like in libraries etc that could just pull the books into a hidden chest… same thing, but cooler because redstone lol.

Wish there was more room on the roof, could put an item sorter to allow you to just throw all the books in one chest and they go to the place they belong. Chisel Bookshelves was such a good edition to the game.

Cleo, just to be safe, when Grian makes the permit office, ask for a permit related to the cat-café. That would make you bulletproof. Like "Permit for Custon Kitty-coffee models". Otherwise Doc could get revenge by getting a permit for it before you and telling you that you need to pay more or something like that.
Or instead of giving the books for free. Say that they need to pay in one of the for models and you can give Doc half of the models after X'D
