  • Before I can start with performance modifications, I needed to get the wobble out of the swingarm. I’ve put nearly 20 miles on the bike, since the fix, and it seems to be holding up. Time will tell.

      I’ve messed with bikes for over 50 years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bike with a zerk fitting on the swingarm. I’ve only had Hondas, maybe other brands use them. These have rubber bushings, not bearings. I don’t see where grease would help.

    Fantastic video between making the mirrors usable which they really are not from the factory and a awesome swing arm repair for a little or no cost obviously most people are trying to repair the swingarm replacing the internal bushings which does not seem to be the real problem.

    Common problem with all the clones. I replaced the swingarm on my 2012 clone with a
    stock CT70 swingarm and bolt. It works great. I think that would be a better route
    than the washers. You might consider that if you do some heavy mods.

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  2 роки тому +2

      Maybe I didn’t make it clear in the video…..the Icebear swingarm and the CT70 swingarm were basically identical. The difference was in the frames, the Icebear was slightly wider at the swingarm mount and they used the rubber lined cups to take up the space. Using a CT70 swingarm would have required the same fix. The rubber cups allowed to much play in the swingarm mount. The washers gave it a much more rigid surface and a larger surface against the frame. I’m super happy with the fix, no reason it shouldn’t last for the life of the bike.

    • @MiniBikeMike

      I would guess 40 to 50 miles per tank. The chain is tensioned by loosening the axle bolt and adjusting the tensioners on each side of the axle bolt.

    just got a 2024 icebear and noticed at around 20 mph the entire front end seems to shake quite a bit. not sure why. wondering if the swing arm in back is causing this. it doesn't do this while coasting down hill at faster speeds, only when accelerating past 20 mph. seems very unstable and I don't feel confident on the bike when it does this. any ideas why? would appreciate any help. thanks.

    • @MiniBikeMike

      @@DrLarryVanSuch I’ve not experienced that problem. I would look at the front wheel/tire and make sure something isn’t off balance.

  • @LanceZ
    @LanceZ Рік тому +1

    when installing the swing arm back is there a reason why you wouldn't install it with the nut on the other side so in the future you can easily remove it?

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  Рік тому

      The swingarm bolt would need to be cut down. At its stock length, if you install it from the other side, the bolt will interfere with the foot brake pedal. It will work, if you shorten the bolt, I just didn’t feel like taking the time to do that.

  • @danmorency4383
    @danmorency4383 Рік тому +1

    Two comments: You should use stainless washers and you should add a zero fitting so that you can grease the bolt/bushing interface. Then you just grease from the middle of the swing arm gusset until the grease squirts out around both ends of the bolt inside and outside of the bushing.

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  Рік тому

      All of that sounds goods, but really unnecessary. The fix I’ve done is perfect for the cheap, throw-away bike that this is. I’m guess the swingarms themselves will bend and trash the unit before this joint gives out. And, when it does, I’ll replace with an original Honda swingarm.

    Not to be a Ball B but if you remember all the moving joints of the the front end of cars had zerk fittings after they were replaced even the upper and lower control arms pivot points, sway bar bushings and had the same movement. Looks like you are working in an old car dealer ship? Thank You for the response minibike mike and have you seen the mini bike ride they have in outside of Phoenix AZ. once a year . Four hundred one lungers all in a pack going for a 40 mile ride. I don't know if you ever heard of Montauk New York at the end of Long Island but there's nothing but battery powered bikes out there and i will never own one. hahaha. I'm interested how the semi auto works and Maybe you could make video on how the semi automatic transmission works mike.

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  Рік тому

      I know nothing about auto design, but if you look at a CT70 swingarm, the steel center sleeve is slightly wider than the rest of the swingarm mount. Honda designed it so that the sleeve would be what the frame is tightened down against. The sleeve isn’t intended to move. The movement is suppose to happen within the rubber bushings.
      Sorry, I don’t do rides or shows, etc. I kinda stick to myself within this hobby.
      If you’ve ever watched many of my videos, I don’t work on engines or transmissions. That type of work just doesn’t interest me.

    • @MiniBikeMike
      @MiniBikeMike  11 місяців тому

      I live out in the country, between Martinsville and Trafalgar. They are very reliable. They do need a little dialing in, when you first get it, but fantastic bikes. They come with too small of a counter sprocket on the engine. If you install a 17t sprocket, yes, it will hit mid 50’smph and do it at an RPM that’s reasonable. I put a better flowing exhaust, bigger tires and a better carb on mine. It tops out right at 60mph.

      @@MiniBikeMike Thanks for the reply. Also I'm curious as to what size main jet you are using because I have the same MOLKT carb I saw on yours in another video. It took me quite a while to find the right size, and needle setting, and I'm not convinced I am entirely happy with it quite yet. When I am crusing at fairly high speed with lower RPM's I can't ease into the throttle without it wanting to bog. I kind of have to goose it. I'm not sure if this is simply operator error, or a carb setting as I am pretty new to this stuff.

      The swingarm shouldn’t be rotating on the bolt. All the movement from the swingarm should be within the rubber bushings.
