Mid Island Produce was owned by my grandfather, father, and uncle, and sat just east of Fox's. The business moved to Hicksville and then Farmingdale, and Mineola bought the building, razed it, and put a much needed parking lot in its place. As a kid I loved watching the switches move from the yard, which literally went just to the edge of the right of way. Any time an express or freight train went by, the whole building shook. Lots of great memories.
I really makes me sad to see the switch tower get demolished. Im just glad i got out here before they closed Willis Ave (As of 4/12/2021 its gone and the underpass is being built, and Main Street is closed and the signals gates have been removed) great video though!
Nice video Tim Tim: I’ll watch one more train Also Tim : here comes the last dual mode train from Montauk to Penn Station at 8:50 am Me: watches train go by Also me: second train goes by
Haha! @21:10 that dude heading to the port-a-potty with his fingers in his ears as the train speeds passed, I think he picked the wrong profession if he doesn't like noise!
Nice visuals in the delicate, low angle early morning sunlight. It's good you captured the tower, one of the last vestiges of LIRR in the steam era. Speaking of which, I noticed that the soot stains are gone from the Mineola Blvd. overpass. Of course, steam has been gone from the LIRR since fall 1955, but diesels put their own deposits on the concrete. Had the bridge been sandblasted recently?
516 is in diesel mode politically in the open mornings when an average commute is about 1.5 garbage hours openly between Oyster Bay in Grand Central and New York Pennsylvania station.
I know it's a late response, but if you're still curious, the signal controlling the train was at Stop and not requested to be displayed by the block operator. With the signal at Stop, the gates stay up, since the train isn't allowed to pass it and having the gates down would cause traffic to back up. When the block operator finally requested the signal to be displayed, the signal logic then activated the crossing. With electrical confirmation that all crossing gates were between 0 and 5 degrees (down) and the crossings protected, the signal was then displayed and the engineer could proceed.

This was a nice presentation. You narrated this show like a radio announcer. I enjoyed each moment.
@for the love of God Also, I am a subway buff and a railfan. I hope the lowercase f will be an uppercase F in your username.
6:27 why is it so rare to see an m7 go to Oyster Bay?
They only went to East Williston once each weekday and they don’t run them there anymore

Great shots, narration. Like being there! Thanks
6:27 I have never seen an M7 go through that branch
I’d like to see an M9 go that way
Nice video Tim

I was hoping that Sea Shore trolley museum would be able to buy the tower

Another excellent video.
Cool to see some of the stuff you caught today! It’s very unfortunate Nassau Tower will be no more soon.
21:39 Why was it operating on the left track ? Was it passing another train which was slower and on the right track ? Aarre Peltomaa
That’s a common occurrence during the rush hours. They don’t run many eastbound trains in the morning so the dispatcher can be flexible
Is Mineola the last station with a grade crossing in all the LIRR’s history?
No wonder Aqueduct and Howard Beach stations are longer than the trains that serve them.
Nice! You were able to catch every dual mode train except 2791. It does run on the Babylon branch though
The only way I can catch all 5 of the dual mode trains is to go from Jamaica westward. I might do that one morning
@@3985uprr Identifying all those trains would be chaos. Interesting they only run 4 dual mode trains back for the evening rush.
Why Does 2791 Run On The Babylon Branch
@@byronchavarria4954 Idk why. It's probably less crowded than the mainline at that time.
Byron Chavarria it’s the preferred route to NYC unless the line is congested.

I would assume the towers going to start being taken down this weekend...
An employee friend of mine doesn’t think so.
What happened to the M3s

Could you do another morning rush hour? Also why are they honking for the crossing if they are closed?
It’s still technically open for pedestrian traffic.
For train 505 did the dispatcher put the gates down some how? They went down before the train moved.

Are you going to be there during the protest?
I don’t know anything about any protest
