Hummingbird Cake from scratch | A 3-layer banana pineapple cake with a sweet cream cheese frosting.

- New Orleans native Charlie Andrews demonstrates how to make a Hummingbird cake from scratch. This cake originated in Jamacia but it's also popular in the southern United states. It is also referred to as the "doctor bird cake", which is named after the islands national bird, the scissors-tail hummingbird. It consists of a 3-layer banana pineapple cake coated with a sweet cream cheese frosting and roasted pecans. This is my version of the cake. You can get 15 slices out of it since it's a 3 layered cake. Wonderful, banana pineapple flavor, soft, moist and absolutely delicious. Hope you all will give this classic cake a try.

Hey Brenda! My grandfather was from Germany. My Mother being German decent made this Hummingbird Cake also. I learned how to make it and finally made my first Hummingbird Cake a couple of weeks ago. It was delicious. Cost quite a bit to make but it was worth it. My Mother is deceased but she would of been proud of me making it all by myself for the first time. I was so amazed about the history behind why it's called a hummingbird cake. My Mother never shared that with me. Thanks to Charlie I learned the History!!!

My Mother who was German made this cake alot but shes now deceased and never shared that history. If she was alive she would be so proud of me making my first homemade Hummingbird Cake. As much as you cook for yourself and for this channel, I'm surprised you haven't run out of steam. Cooking/baking, especially for money, can feel so grueling sometimes. How have you maintained your high/fun spirit for so long??
I know right. lol ha ha As far as the cooking and baking goes, the grueling part comes with the territory. I actually enjoy it. I don't think about it being grueling, I just do the work and once it's done, it's done. I like to take my time with my work and also take time away from it to recharge. That way I can focus on the next upcoming video and ideas for future videos etc.

I love how this cake turned out because it looks moist, but still has a nice crumb on it. I’ve seen some people make this cake and it look a little too wet and doughy with no crumb.
