He has never had any vocal training! He was homeless in the streets of the Phillipines from 2 years old until around 16 years old - he was looking for his family. He can sing in 7 languages (neither his own language) but he cannot carry out a conversation in those languages. It is totally amazing! Enjoy your journey listening to Marcelito - you won't be bored!! :-)

Memorizing a song in another language is not very hard. It's not remotely comparable to actually speaking the language. It can be done in under an hour.

Neither the English or Italian language is native to Marcelito. He is Filipino. He's singing in a feminine voice, who is probably not singing in her native language. On top of all that, singing Italian and English in a masculine voice. He is also doing it sitting down. And doing a amazing job! Thanks for a great reaction. Cheers

I'd say he's just Gifted, don't you? I'm not a Professional but Love to sing. I'm q Die Hard Fan of Marcelito and he's also my Countrymen. I SAW him here in Canada in 219 Concert and he's great, Humble and a very Talented Singer. He grew up very poor and didn't have any Formal Training at all, he just just Love too sing since Childhood! There is a wedding video where he sings "Perfect" in Italian. Also on AGT he did a quicky version on "Time to Say Goodbye." He has also got an appearance on Ellen. With a translator as he spoke only limited English.
be aware that all those american shows require songs to be cut down to some specific time to allow for enough commercial breaks. and shows like AGT also often manipulate performances and twist and turn backstory and what is shown, even copying scenes from the finals and pasting them to the semifinals (both recorded half a year earlier) and then suggesting that it might be live. the producers make a small list of songs to select from, and Simon is an executive producer of the show, and yet he said that he was surprised by the bad choice of songs that Marcelito did. Therefore i avoid to watch these shows or performances from these shows if a song is available somewhere in a longer/original version (which is the case with the wishbus "prayer", but apparently not for "con te partiro / time to say goodbye"). privately watch the "less than 2 minute AGT version" of the prayer to see what they have done to the song.

At this time he spoke no English nor Italian. He had no idea what he was singing. He was homeless from age 7, until age 24. He learned songs by listening to them over and over and copying what they did. He literally sung for his food. He won Philippines Got Talent with this song and was homeless no more. Amazing isn't it
The only thing missing from this is the beautiful harmonies... and as good as he is, I was half expecting him to do those too!! 🤣

He was born into a broken family, his mother left him and her family after his father ended up in jail. With no other relatives wanting to take care of Marcelito Pomoy while he was about 2 years old, he ended up joining his father inside the jail. After sometime being inside the jail cell living with other genuine criminals and his father, a police guard was moved by his plight that he took Marcelito Pomoy to live in his home with his own family. He went to kindergarten to about 3rd grade in a public school in Mindanao. He was neglected in that family so at a very young age of about 9 or 10 years old left the only home he knew and walked the streets, often going for days hungry, doing whatever odd jobs he can do to be able to buy a piece of bread or scraps of food he could find on the streets while searching for his mother he never really knew. All that time he learned to humm and sing himself to sleep. He did so much variety of odd jobs at a tender age just to survive, like being a helper in construction sites, mixing cement manually with gravel and water and carrying it to the guys needing to build hollow blocks with cement, etc., selling boiled duck eggs which is a popular delicacy called "Balot" upto the wee hours of dawn, any job an under 12 year old kid could do Marcelito had done it, excluding any criminal activities which he never did. He would hang around clubs and restaurants and watch in amazement at the talent of the singers' performing while he watched from outside the door. He started singing himself and follow the way he sees the singers sing and thru the years he kept on singing. He was a no read no write kid having left his 3rd year public grade school education to fend for himself and survived all those years. It was while Marcelito Pomoy was in his teens while cleaning inside massively large chicken pens in chicken farms that he discovered he could sing both male and female voices. His very first audiences were those clucking, egg laying chickens... we will never know whether Marcelito encouraged those hens to lay more eggs while being serenaded !!! He honed his skill’s on his own as he barely survived day to day, so he could never afford a vocal coach to teach him to sing properly. He was able to travel to Manila and still live the streets of the city. When he was in his early 20’s, he was urged by his circle of friends to join a nationwide TV network singing competition in Manila. He won the competition hands down despite so many excellent competitors. He eventually signed a record deal with the recording studio arm of the same TV network and the rest is now history. His SUFFERINGS in life I barely touched on the surface.... You won't be able to watch his UA-cam videos about his life story coming from Marcelito Pomoy because he is not comfortable talking in conversational American English. He can now sing almost all songs in so many different languages with the help of a vocal coach but talk to him in English, interview him in English and he would need a translator to assist him. He is very rich now in terms of an average Filipino earning a decent living in manila, he bought a beautiful home and got married to his girlfriend and they have a child now to enrich their married blissful life as a family. He has returned to school to be more confident in his life but it's still a very long way to go for him. He does an excellent job of emulating the diction, way of delivering of the singers he hears and watches. His favorite singer is Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli and the prayer is one of his favorite songs. He first listens to each song he wants to sing, following their pronunciation, breathing patterns, etc until he's able to follow them like he did with Celine Dion etc.
I hope I had shed some life on Marcelito Pomoy so you'll understand better why maybe you'd notice some slight imperfections in the way he emulates other singers' songs.
In one of the interviews Marcelito Pomoy was asked in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, the media wanted to know what was the meaning of the gesture he did pretending to cough at the end of doing a recording in the Wish bus of the emotionally filled beautiful song THE PRAYER, he jokingly said he wanted to bring out the woman in him but did not expand any further ... maybe he wanted Celine Dion to come out perhaps ????

For Macelito's "normal"voice" Try is rendition of "Despacito" (Luis Fansi and Daddy Yankee) and is done in Spanish. Also, I you know Morisette Amon, for 2017 Wish Awards where they sing a duet of Secret Love Song (Little Mix) - try to get the Wish Video, it is better quality. If you want to see his switching ability, there is the Remote Control Challenge, that cannot be rehearsed since it is an impromptu. Although not singing in two different languages, He performs "Endless Love" (Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie).Make sure it is the Remote Control Challenge, since there is a full performance Endless Love in a video of it's own.
