Luke ripping the rips, Luke was all Act of Depression. Corey was all cries of the past. Octavio on the side hating playing the bass, and Aaron going with the flow cause he’s hanging with the older kids from church.
This is awesome. I am somewhere in that crowd. I actually still have an old Underoath shirt hanging up in my closet that I bought at their merch table that night. Too bad I can't post a pic here. A relic of a lost time. I remember seeing so many great bands there. World Against World, The Blamed, Squad, Lugnut. Many others I'm sad to say I can't even remember. Man I feel old now.
Thanks for all the kind comments everyone! Also - thanks to AltPres for putting this out there. Watching through again - the Audio gets off a little - and I am pissed about that - but such is life. Many of you may have only watched a little - but my favorite part is actually at 14:08 when Dallas drops to the floor and begins to do some amazing windmilling - classic stuff. Here's to our youth!
I am almost 100% sure I am in that crowd. I can't believe I'm seeing this footage....the refuge was such a special place to me...I saw chalice and zao when that split album came out...one of my favorite hardcore albums. And at this time Blindside was up there as one of my favorite bands. I also saw Extol at the Refuge... absolutely nuts they head banged the entirety of the show. We were all amazed they didn't hurt their necks! Also the hardcore dancing was hilarious to me, the windmilling lol. What a special time to be alive. Thank you for uploading this footage... I'm very late to see it... but I'm so happy to see this.
Thanks for sharing, saw it posted earlier on the Underoath FB page. I like the brutal side to the early stuff but definitely prefer the final three albums with Spencer on vocals. It's all good though and it just shows that at an early age they already had something special, awesome.
Old Underoath > New Underoath. Act of Depression and Cries of the Past were easily their best 2 albums. Still loved the new Spencer Chamberlain stuff. But their original stuff was unbeatable. Weirdly I never really got that into Maylene and the Sons of Disaster though.
I prefer Spencer Chamberlain era Underoath but cannot lie I like listening to their first 3 records with Dallas from time to time. Maylene's first 2 records were their best the others were let downs for me.
As a drummer myself, I feel confident saying that it is the kind of instrument that comes naturally to a person. I don't think anyone can really master the instrument without being a drummer at heart, in their very soul. I've got it, and its clear Aaron Gillespie does too just by watching this video of him at 15 (':
Luke left due to dealing with some personal problems very early on in the Underoath timeline. Corey left a little while before The Changing of Times due to wanting to focus on making more metal-style music, as the band was shifting to the more post-hardcore influenced sound.
77cyclops This guy interviewed Dallas Taylor and he gave the whole history of the band back in 2007 or 2008 or so, if you look up Dallas Taylor interview it should turn up, I used to be super into the band at the time, especially their old stuff, so I remembered that stuff heh.
remind me quite a bit of Suicide Silence. Not sure if thats good or bad. i couldnt get into the early albums because i like underoath from "The Changing Of Times" onwards really. i feel they were a better band when spencer came in. but this is such a good performance, they have got some fucking ENERGY
From @nathanschiro above Here is the track list unless I am mistaken. (0:00 - 7:50): Heart Of Stone (Act Of Depression) (8:00 - 16:38): Act Of Depression (Act Of Depression)
Hey buddy. I'm just praying you don't have any footage of us from this era.
Copeland I think I do have some footage of Evangel at Covenant Presbyterian... :)
hahahahahahahah...
Chad Fair Please please please please upload that footage!!!
HA James Likeness I don't think I have any...but after all of this hoopla over this video I wish I had taken more...
Copeland hahahahah its was too much fun.
Luke ripping the rips, Luke was all Act of Depression. Corey was all cries of the past. Octavio on the side hating playing the bass, and Aaron going with the flow cause he’s hanging with the older kids from church.

Brian LaBarbera So many good memories there for me as well.

I can't believe the quality of the sound in this video despite being almost 2 decades ago. Props!
alaris1337 thanks! good ole VHS-C camcorder.
So great, i wish i was old enough to see this show. i was only 1 when this happened.
This is so amazing to see. This was when I was two years old haha, yet they are one of my all-time favorite bands today.
Oh dude! This is pure treasure right now...
Wow. Aaron was a sick drummer back then and still was. That's freakin crazy !! I got into em after Spencer came in the band.
Hayley Williams posted this on her twitter!!! Because it was also on the AP website.
I love this and the Blindside video. Thanks for sharing! It's pretty interesting to see how talented they were even so early on in their careers.
Here is the track list unless I am mistaken.
(0:00 - 7:50): Heart Of Stone (Act Of Depression)
(8:00 - 16:38): Act Of Depression (Act Of Depression)
Nathan Schiro, you are correct.
This is so sick. You can really hear their potential here. And within just 4 years they had 3 really solid albums under the belt. Awesome stuff.
I am almost 100% sure I am in that crowd. I can't believe I'm seeing this footage....the refuge was such a special place to me...I saw chalice and zao when that split album came out...one of my favorite hardcore albums.

I can't believe this was 20 years ago
I can't believe this is 23 years ago.
Thanks for sharing, saw it posted earlier on the Underoath FB page. I like the brutal side to the early stuff but definitely prefer the final three albums with Spencer on vocals. It's all good though and it just shows that at an early age they already had something special, awesome.

Damn C# on act of depression.. that's something new for a recording stuck in Underoath history
Drop D
@@Xbrayan777X No, they are using Drop C# tuning in the video, even though the original recordings are in Drop D.

Gotta be one of the only times they played Act of Depression live
I didn't even know this existed, it was a few years after I stopped going to shows at The Refuge.
Wow Aaron looks so young and I cant even recognize Dallas without the beard
this makes me SOO HAPPY
Man I was at that show with my sister... Haha she was dating the bass guitarist from luti-kriss hahaha those were the best days
That unappreciative crowd... what I'd do to be there now !
RIP Corey
Considering this was one of their first shows, they actually sound pretty tight.
THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN METAL BAND EVER
August Burns Red
rzutr fehgtr NO!
nacho9010 well, if you can't accept the greatness of ABR, I feel really bad for you
LOL
Sorry but underoath is better than ABR. Sorry again :p
Dude! Aaron was so fucking young!!! :o
fucking awesome the scene in the 90s would be so awesome to experience
Old Underoath > New Underoath. Act of Depression and Cries of the Past were easily their best 2 albums. Still loved the new Spencer Chamberlain stuff. But their original stuff was unbeatable. Weirdly I never really got that into Maylene and the Sons of Disaster though.
I prefer Spencer Chamberlain era Underoath but cannot lie I like listening to their first 3 records with Dallas from time to time. Maylene's first 2 records were their best the others were let downs for me.
I'm with you on that, man.
Holy fuck
This makes me wanna learn how to scream and sing along oof
Their is not a best album by underØATH. Each album old and recent was epic . RIP

Amazing too see where they went till they broke up.

Thanks for your valuable contribution!
yeaaah underoath :D
YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love Luke and Corey. anyone know why these guys left?
Luke left due to dealing with some personal problems very early on in the Underoath timeline. Corey left a little while before The Changing of Times due to wanting to focus on making more metal-style music, as the band was shifting to the more post-hardcore influenced sound.
appreciate the closure :)! how do you know these things??

you cant say you like underoath until youve listened to act of depression and cries of the past
LOL Aaron and Dallas!
Whats the name of the first song?
kevin zuniga, the song is Heart of Stone from the Act of Depression album.
remind me quite a bit of Suicide Silence.
