Fabulous and very encouraging video. Thank you so much for posting it! I loved the music and Seppel. What a great mom you were! I am so sorry to read you lost him. Getting teary-eyed now. I was already depressed because my little “foster fail”’s total hip replacement surgery this morning didn’t work (his hips are a complete disaster) and he had to get an FHO. Feeling much better about it after watching your video and seeing how well Seppel worked out. Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the other hip.
Karen Rylander I’m sorry to hear your pup’s hip replacement didn’t work out! I don’t know how big your dog is but I’ve seen several bi-lateral FHO dogs (even a 60lbs dog) and the dogs have done very well. I was really happy with Seppel’s FHO, he could do all the things and it never hindered him. Thank you for the kind words, I miss that dog so much!

@@tatstoo1 when I first got my dog he could not climb stairs, he couldn't jump and he could run but it was so slow and clunky it wasn't really running. It's been about 9 months and now he can climb, jump, run fast enough to keep up with other dogs, wrestle with my other dog, etc. He even can jump over a baby gate i put on a door to keep him in a certain area of the house. You can tell that his back legs had an issue sometimes by the way he stands or shifts his weight BUT his quality of life has improved 100 percent. He is like a whole new dog. He isn't perfect but compared to his old self the surgery ended up being a success. He did stay very and I mean very active which is necessary during the healing process...don't know how he would have been if he didn't do a lot of playing and running while he was rehabbing.
Did you do both hips or single hip? Vet is looking at possibility of FHO. My boy has both hips affected. I am scared that with both hips it might take longer to recover. He is a jumpy boy though which i am trying to suppress right now.
@@p2a0p2e0r1 thanks for your reply. He had the surgery Monday and is feeling very sad and sorry for himself at the moment. He will not put the leg down at all but he has been carrying it since mid-December when they put him in an Ehmer sling hoping he could avoid another surgery.
@@p2a0p2e0r1 same for my pup. She like rotates her bad legs foot pad a lil when she walk. Pivots and stuff. But never any signs of pain. I mean when we start to walk she limps for a min and doesnt limp after at all. We hear a click when we stretch her leg. To get her to not be active was hard.
Thanks for posting this video! It has been just so inspirational and has helped me so much. Two years ago my agility BC was diagnosed with hip displasya on both legs. A biateral FHO was done on May of this year. Se has been doing quite good. Se has already started to train again (without height) and we're still working hard on her recovery, but many people say her agility career is over. But thanks to you, and with a lot of hard work, now I know that she can go back to do what she loves the most. We're in the middle on the way to her total recovery, I know it will take time, patience and a lot of hard work, but I will continue because she deserves the best. Really, really thanks!!
Corisandra Ruiz Pastrana I'm glad this was helpful! I think it took a good year post surgery before I saw my dog more back to normal, but it can be done! I think especially for our athletic dogs it is easier for them to return to sport since they were in shape before surgery. I hope your border collie makes a full recovery!
just one last question; someone told me that the "false joint" formed by scar tissue can present problems in the future. Has your dog presented any kind of problems? and once again thanks for helping me taking a decision (I thought I would have to put her down) and specially for giving me hope!
Corisandra Ruiz Pastrana I have heard that as well but never saw an issue. I think it can be a problem if they over stretch something during the healing process but I never saw an issue with my dog. Unfortunately my boy actually passed away 10 days after I put this video together from a heart tumor. We competed in Schutzhund and physically he could do anything he did before prior to surgery. We never had a problem related to the FHO.
