Nicholas Rodney "Nick" Drake (19 June 1948 - 25 November 1974) was an English singer-songwriter and musician, known for his gentle guitar-based songs. He failed to find a wide audience during his lifetime but his work has gradually achieved wider notice and recognition.
Just today. It wouldn’t have been for the movie Serendipity…but I absolutely love this song! It’s been 7 years and I honor Nick and his talent. RIP! Wonderful talent!!!
This really is something else. I have listened to Bryter Layter (the album from which this wonderful song is taken) for 50 years near enough. It never looses its beauty & its effortless ability to sound fresh, evocative & transcendent every time. Amazing. RIP Nick Drake. 🫶
@Deborah Wilson u mean Drake would love it, not the wifey, can't be certain (unless u are) still a lot of wifeys out there that aint hes...just sayin🤷🏼
I never felt magic crazy as this I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea I never had emotion in the palm of my hand I felt sweet breezes in the top of A tree But now you're here, Brighten my northern sky👍👌😘😘
2:16 ^ Would you love me for my money? Would you love me for my head? Would you love me through the winter? Would you love me til I'm dead? Oh, if you would and you could Come blow your horn on high I never felt magic crazy as this I never saw moons, knew the meaning of the sea I never held emotion in the palm of my hand Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree But now you're here Brighten my northern sky🎤🎶
Nick Drake was so far ahead of his time. What a hauntingly beautiful voice that shakes you to your core. Such a talented artist that left this world far too soon.
Serendipity Movie is the reason I know this beautiful creation. It's been over 15 years when I heard it for the first time in the movie and loved it ever since ❤️❤️ my 3 months young daughter too love's this ❤️❤️❤️
Drake signed to Island Records when he was 20 years old and a student at the University of Cambridge, and released his debut album, Five Leaves Left, in 1969. By 1972, he had recorded two more albums-Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. Neither sold more than 5,000 copies on initial release. On 25 November 1974, Drake died from an overdose of amitriptyline, a prescribed antidepressant; he was 26 years old. Whether his death was an accident or suicide has never been resolved.
"Truly beautiful" ... From one of my favorite love stories: (Serendipity), my Christmas season heart movie, of all times ".. Blessings always, Ms. Deborah J. Steele - 12/26/21
Mine too…Serendipity and the feeling of the “what if” and the magic of the myth of fate and destiny….I’ve been waiting for my Jonathan Trager for 34 years now, maybe one day. Happy New year 2022
I don't know if they are specifically on this song, but both the Fairport Convention's Richard Thompson and the Velvet Underground's John Cale play on this album with Nick Drake. This is one of those truly most beautiful and wondrous songs ever written during the rock age. Impeccably performed by Nick.
If I have second marriage I hope this is how I will feel…. Otherwise for my children I’d hope n pray they feel this way! A very talented n tormented soul hon to soon!!!!!
Northern Sky I never felt magic crazy as this I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea I never held emotion in the palm of my hand Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree But now you're here Brighten my northern sky. I remember first hearing this song while watching Serendipity and I absolutely loved it. Recently I was watching an episode of Mayans and it was so strange to hear it as background music...hmmm just threw me off. But I still enjoy this song very much
Hi Phil! Agree with you about his talent, but he did want fame or more accurately recognition for his talents. Unfortunately he was to introspective and shy to promote his music by tour etc. This led him to become frustrated by his lack of recognition. This i feel is summed up in his song 'Hanging on a Star'
The amitryptiline business was indeed never as clear cut as some have suggested. I suspect he may have been fed up that evening and, as it's pretty sedative over the first few weeks or months, thought 10 or 20 might just knock him out for a bit. Such doses can cause fatal cardiac arrhythmias. But enough of the futile forensics. Wonderful music, Such craft, sensitivity, mastery. We won't see (or really, hear, since there's little or no movie footage) his like again.
My favorite Nick Drake song from my favorite Nick Drake album. The organ is phenomenal -- the crescendo that goes from 2:09 to 2:17 is so powerful, and then starting at 3:30 the celeste plays those incredibly high notes that almost peal like tiny bells -- such a beautiful way to end.

He is so loved and people know that you were and astounding musician and guitar player.❤
I'm so in love with this song ... I never get tired of hearing it so beautiful xx
If only Nick knew how well his music has been received over the years. 26 is far too young to die, truly saddening.
He lives on thru his music. Thank you Nick.
I hear different sounds every time I hear the song. Perfect in every way.
That's why I love listening to his music.
Hauntingly beautiful music that I listened to over and over again. And when I read his story, I cried for quite some time.
What an amazing music artist. Sing out loud nick.

Perfect song in what I believe to be a nice romantic movie. I associate the song with the movie and vice versa.

Christmas and I feel I survived another year ...I don't want too...but...my soul is not ready to leave this hell.
I trust you are still around my friend - yes life is shit at times but the good will always outweigh the bad in the end - stay safe ❤
I’m in the same predicament.
I needed this today. Thank you for the massive shift of perception. 🙏
Just heard this at the end of an episode of "Elementary!" :-) Amazing that it's still going after all these years.

There is another lovely song by Nick Drake featured in the film The Lake House it's called. Time Has Told Me.

Perfection, just sublime...
Northern Sky
I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky.
I've been a long time that I'm waiting
Been a long that I'm blown
I've been a long time that I've wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind's eye.
Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me 'til I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high.

My boyfriend likes to speak to me through song lyrics, and this is the song I have loved the most. *dreamy sigh*
Beautiful song. I think Nick didn’t find his Northern Sky. Sad.

real talent, and never wonted fame, you don't get many like that.

An "Organic" Artist that passed too soon.
ill be using this song for my son and future daughter-in-law's wedding slide show.
First time I heard this song was from the comedy romantic baseball movie “Fever Pitch” with Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore
