Imagine a bere barley version of Highland Park made from the orkney farms grain. 8-ish years old, 50% abv, no colour, no stupid viking larp packaging. Keep under 80 bucks and people are going to storm the retailers.
Or a local barley Clynelish - but Diageo would slap a price on that that's best expressed in kidneys.

All I kept thinking about was Macallan.... Overpriced and much better out there for much cheaper. It is a brand first and a scotch second.

Macallan is basically Aberlour Abdunah with a fancy social status marketing. But i don't think it's going to last it's basically a boomer brand no one i know cares about it.
@@Soldano999 That is Aberlour that I enjoy. It's cask strength. Yes. It's a non-age statement, but I find it very enjoyable. The standard 12 and 16 however @ 40%, hard pass.

Ralphy. Appreciate your reviews and your contribution to this wonderful whiskey community. Also, I'm fortunate to have both of these bottles. Easily in my top 10. Exquisitely crafted Scotch.
I prefer the 10. Amazing drink.
Just look at the Scotch mist on that dram of Islay Barley!
Do this with Bere Barely. The recent release and say…one that was put in the barrel in 2009 or 2010. I’d be interested in the comparison. (The newer release is slightly older).
I'd love to know more about the barley - their varietal names - used by distillers, as well as where it's grown. When you know, that is.
Just imagine the local barley whisky aged 3 more years!

That Islay Barley looks like Ardbeg 10 with that slight greenish tint.
I had just purchased the 2013 Islay Barley and it is also magnificent.
That's the one i received as well. Makes me wonder how it compares to the 2014w

Local barley, 50 percent ABV, abundance of info reference growing - sounds like what I also like about Waterford Whiskey
Waterford is excellent i agree. I had some at a whisky event at my local wine store and was impressed.

Hey Ralfy, I’ve been enjoying your reviews for around 10 years now. Bruichladdich is one of my top distilleries, and Port Charlotte 10 is one of my favorite single malts. I’ve been hesitating on pulling the trigger on the PC Islay Barley, but I think you’ve convinced me to try it. Thank you for always putting out great content and for being straightforward. Finally subscribed
I had been stop for awhile due to some personal reasons and now i am back. But i realized starting from tbis review Ralfy is changing his nosing glass, may i know why?
Eh, we like seeing reviews of cheapo mainstream malts too… it gives us a reference point to where those compare in your pallet to the integrity stuff. A mix of everything is nice
There's cheapo and there's crap-o. Speyburn 12 is a decent dram.
Label 5, clan campbell and J&B are a whole different category. Even the stores know it and put them on a separate shelf.
@@Soldano999 haven’t tried Speyburn 12 in a VERY long time… may have to come back to it. I like to buy three cheap bottles to every expensive some these days to stretch the malt budget
@@Soldano999 also, I’m not against a blend every now and again. I like to blend them with my malts to try to make a better version. Recently I tried Old Parr 12, and while it’s nothing Ralfy would rate above 80 *these days* I find it to blend well with almost any malt and it cost under $30.

Ralfy, guys, sorry to interrupt. Looking for some thoughts, need a dram to share as we say goodbye to a Kirkcaldy man. A good man. I'm not so mindful as cost, but aware that not all are whisky drinkers. I'm leading the procession. I'd like to say thank you to the pallbearers, the piper, to everyone that plays their part. Crap question, sorry, but thoughts??
As he was a Fifer I would suggest Lindores Abbey. Perhaps the Friar John Cor.
I bought my first PC10 about 5 years ago. At the time the bottle was transparent.
It was the best whisky i ever had. I paid 60€ for it which was really crazy to me.
Since then i've been buying dozens of much more expensive bottles. But very few can compare and none can surpass PC. It's the top of the line, period.
World changes Ralfy... You know that, don't you? Bruicladdich Classic Laddie is sold in supermarkets in France all year long including in discount stores such as Lidl during whisky fares at a discounted price around 40E. Wtf! 🤔

Would really love to see Ralphy do a review of the hyper marketed Singleton. I suspect they're the distillery he alludes to.
