Whether or not this camera is relevant or not in 2022 is kind of a pointless question. Canon has made it clear it is doing away with DSLR cameras. It won't be long and this and the rest of the DSLR cameras won't be available. If you like or prefer DSLR models, ( I do) get them while you still can. Pentax seems to be the only maker committed to DSLR cameras. Considering how cameras (as opposed to cell phones) have become less desirable, it seems foolish to cease making DSLR cameras, since many still prefer them for at least some things. I think the 6dii was given a bad rap. It is a much better camera than was given credit for. I am 71. I have been a photographer since I was 12. I started out with an old Kodak Signet 40 rangefinder. Since the, I have used probably 15 different cameras and that's not counting medium format and 4x5 sheet film cameras. In all those years, not one of those cameras was PERFECT. But I got good images from them by learning to deal with whatever shortcomings we're present. Do the same.
Great vid I say! I watched it a 2nd time to catch some of those gems you made about considering the R or RP. I am on the borderline for my 1st full-frame body upgrading from a Canon 77D. Thank you.
hi! so i shoot with a canon rebel t3i at the moment, and i’m looking at switching my camera body. i am deciding on a canon 6d mark ii, or just saving the money to transfer to the mirrorless world, while using a lens adapter to use all my canon ef-s lenses. should i spend the money on the 6d mark ii to transition before mirrorless? or just save the money and not waste time and just get the sony a7iii?
So if you'd be changing systems entirely by going with the mirrorless option of the Sony A7III then I'd recommend going with the Canon 6D Mark II instead. That's because it sounds like you already have Canon lenses and if you were to switch to Sony you'd either have to get new lenses for that (which are very expensive) or getting a Canon to Sony lens adapter which aren't always reliable. If you're looking to switch into the mirrorless world just because it's new and "the way of the future" I still wouldn't recommend buying mirrorless then. Yes, buying mirrorless would future-proof your gear, but not by much. Canon is still selling EF mount lenses on their website and even if you couldn't find what you're looking for on their website, then you can always try places like Amazon, Ebay, or Facebook Marketplace. So, I guess, in my opinion, I'd invest in the 6D Mark II. Mainly because you already have invested in the system and learned how to use Canon cameras. However, if you are willing to continue using the T3I for a while until you can afford a mirrorless camera, that's definitely a good option too, but I'd make sure you buy a Canon mirrorless just because you've again already learned the system. Hope that helps!

Hi jake I’m been trying to look for an upgrade, currently I own a t7 rebel with a sigma 85 art lens. I lost my 50 EF 1.8 lens. Currently my rebel shutter speed is terrible with the 85 art lens and only works on the flash off auto setting. Do you think I should invest in the 6d mark 2

Yea and also I went to a camera store recently and they thought my lens needed possible calibration. instead to save more money on that the employee said I can use it on the non flash option however on manual option it isn’t performing properly. The 6D Mark II is a semi professional camera and the T6i is more of an amateur camera. I haven't been paying much attention to newer releases but I know Canon has the R10 and R7 I believe coming out soon if not already. Those would be worth taking a look at.
Got one myself two weeks ago after comparing that one with the rp aggressively (EOS R/6/5 we’re out of the budget) and something that doesn’t bother me, but it might in the future is it’s cross type AF viewfinder. I mostly take photos with center focus, and coming from a T7 it is still a big upgrade. And I saw Dual pixel AF pretty much covers that if I have the need to focus something out of the cross AF. Outside of that might-be-an-issue-sometime. I’m in love with it.
Yeah upgrading from older models and APS-C models makes a huge difference. It might not match up completely to the top dogs out there right now like the R3, R5, R6, etc. but it is nice for those that can't afford those top end models.
It means the type of photographer/videographer that wants a lightweight quick to setup package for shooting. So something portable and simple to use and get set up. Hope that helps!
Hey, thanks for such an informative review. I’m looking at this camera for taking pictures of my son playing high school baseball then at the college level next year. I would love to get a Canon R or R6 but because of the higher price & the astronomical prices of the new RF lenses; I don’t think I can afford either of those. Do you think the 6D Mark II would be the best choice for me? I already have some Canon lenses, so I want to stay with the brand, plus I like the feel of their cameras.
The 6D Mark II is technically not geared towards sports photography, but I've used it for sports before and I think it works great. However, I've also heard good things about the Canon 7D Mark II. For baseball that could potentially be a better option because it has a crop factor which means that a lens on that camera will be able to zoom in further than if it was on the 6D Mark II. So, if I were you I'd do some research on the 7D Mark II as well, but you really can't go wrong with either one.
Learn and watch some videos on how to hyper focus. You should be ok. Concentrate on the moment and not a 1000 photos when taking your kids baseball photos. It's a boring game to begin with. And the MLB like NFL is rigged
I am still using my Canon 77D and planning on upgrading to full frame. I saw a used 6D Mark II for $850 and planning to buy it but… I keep seeing it as 77D body with full frame sensor. It just looks the same 😅
It is a very similar camera. There really aren't many differences, but the ones I noticed when I briefly glanced at the specs was full frame vs apsc and then I'm pretty sure the ISO sensitivity might be a tad higher on the 6dm2.
To be honest with you, that's exactly what I did. However, I only did because I already had full frame glass anyways. So, it made sense to just get a full frame body. If you only have aps-c lenses then it's a good idea to sit and think about it because if you buy a Canon 6D Mark II you won't only be buying that. You'll also have to buy full frame glass to go with it. Hope that helps!

I find the dynamic range of the 6D MkII being no sufficiently better than my Lumix G7. I also hate the shutter button on it. It feels like a cheap push button you would find in custom RC Cars. It's a shame this is a Full Frame camera and you can't really push it above 3200 ISO... And also this dinosaur of a camera was £1700 when new! That's insane!

I take some day pictures and some night pictures and still trying to figure out the best iso to use in both situations without creating lots of noise.
Well for the day time I'd say the lowest you can go for ISO, so if you can keep it at 100 then that would be best, but for night photos I probably wouldn't go above 6400 ISO. That's just me🤷
Hi thanks for this the only think I like bout this camera is the roundness at the top where the built in flash would be like on most cameras and obviously the flip out screen thanks 🙏
It very well could be more useable for your daily practice but you'll just have to remember that Canon doesn't plan to release any DSLR's in the future. Also what makes the RF lenses not attractive to you?
Been thinking of getting this camera for a while and with the DSLR's going out It will be my last camera. The biggest downer is the single memory card slot.
Yeah I thought that too. But I've never had a card quit on me, "knock on wood." So I feel pretty confident with it. Also if you shoot a bunch of different types of media, such as UA-cam vids, professional videos, photos, etc. So in my opinion it's worth it, but if you do get it I wouldn't buy new. Used prices are much better. Mine is used and I've had no problems with it yet.
I would say so but I also think there are better options out there for about the same price that Canon has release within the last few years. Most of them are their mirrorless cameras so I'd take a look at some of those options.
Ummm yeah it honestly kind of is. If you're looking at full frame Canon DSLR's good luck finding one that they still make that sits in between 20 and 26 megapixels. But hey thanks for the comment my dude😂
I have been using the 6D mk II since 2018 I and I have some input to this review. First of all. I'd say it is primarily a photo centric camera. Not because of the lack of 4K but because of the poor video quality. If not the lighting is spot on you will get a result that more reminds of a cellphone camera than a fullframe offering from Canon. The R6 that I also have, is has a much more pleasing video quality regardless of the resolution you choose to film with. The autofocus on the 6D mk ii is also slow and the low burst rate makes it really unsuitable for sports or any form of action photography. The dynamic range is again, blown away by the R6. This is especially noticeable in landscape photogray. While it seems like I am given the 6D mk ii a hard time there are also reasons why I pick it up instead of the R6. 1. The top lcd makes it easy to fast spot the settings without having to look at the screen or the viewfinder. 2) If live view is used the focus coverage cover the entire screen. I often use the screen swiveled and shoot in live view for low angle shots my children, and for this the camera is perfect. 3) Teamed up with the 40 mm Canon pancake lens and the Canon 85 mm F1.8 it makes for a phenomenal compact and lightweight portrait setup that I often use instead of the R6 and the RF 24-70mm F2.8 lens. To sum it up. It does not hold up as a video camera neither in 2021, when this video was made, or now in 2022. It is however a phenomenal budget portrait camera paired up with the right lenses and with subject that does not require a fast autofocus.
I agree with some of your points, however if you're saying the video on this is similar to a phone then you could probably say that about just about any DSLR or mirrorless camera out there. With that said phone cameras have come so far when it comes to quality, but they start to fall apart in certain situations much worse than a DSLR and mirrorless cameras. On top of all of that I wouldn't say the 6D Mark II is made for sports photography, but you can still get some awesome results with it for sports photography and any other type of photography for that matter. Most of the time it's who's using the camera rather than the specs. Other than that though. Thank you for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video!
@@JakeBorowski15 I have been using borth the 6D mk ii and the R6 for coporate video work and sports photography. The difference in performance in that regard is quite large. Back in the day of the 6D mk II's release it was also criticed for those two specific areas in comparison with other cameras back in 2017.
I think if you are good at lighting you should be fine. Why you all crap on 1080 p? A lot of great films and TV were shot on it. As far as sports and at. Some of the greatest sports photos were shot with out at. Learn how to hyper focus.

Used prices are much better. Mine is used and I've had no problems with it yet.
Hey it's 2024 Does It Still Hold Up Today?
I would say so but I also think there are better options out there for about the same price that Canon has release within the last few years. Most of them are their mirrorless cameras so I'd take a look at some of those options.
@JakeBorowski15 are these options also full frames?
@@jake-346-4 they have some full frame and some apsc
"I wouldn't go below a 20MP sensor and the 6DmkII's sensor is just above that". So 31% more megapixels is "just above that"? lol
Back in the day of the 6D mk II's release it was also criticed for those two specific areas in comparison with other
cameras back in 2017.
@@roglar I don't think you're wrong it's got it's flaws for sure, but I think it really comes down to who's using the camera again
I think if you are good at lighting you should be fine. Why you all crap on 1080 p? A lot of great films and TV were shot on it. As far as sports and at. Some of the greatest sports photos were shot with out at. Learn how to hyper focus.
Your comparing a camera with under grand to one worth Thousands and thousands.
