    So beautiful to the ear! It bears resemlance to Handel's setting of this text.

    • @kaloarepo288

      Actually Handel based his version on the earlier Bononcini version and he actually sought to outdo and improve him as Bononcini was Handel's great rival in London.Furthermore Bononcini himself based his version on an even earlier aria by Cavalli the great Venetian master.A bit of musical archaeology!

      He is a sopranist and doesn't use falsetto. He sings with his modal (normal) voice.

      @@robertocarvalhodemagalhaes3648, I am a sopranist myself. Mr. De Sa's managers at Parnassus Art Productions list him as a countertenor, not a male soprano in the vein of (retired?) Radu Marian.

      I’m happy that you appreciated my voice and work. In fact I’m real male soprano (not singing falsetto at all), and appears at my Agency‘s web site at Counters category, just because would be easier to locate myself.

    On my way to tonights concert at #bayreuthbaroqueoperafestival. Soooo curious and excited to hear you live. However, I spoiled the "wow-effect" a little with this vid, I fear. I prepared the scores for the broadcasting some time ago and I feel a bit sorry, to hear this lovely piece "only" as late as the 2nd encore, which - I am convinced - will be asked for by the audience... and i will clap the hardest. 😁

    Until today I didn't know there were two other aria's for this text. Found this, found the Cavalli version. Thank you Bruno for this little peace of heaven. Hope to hear you soon in the Netherlands.

      Haendel's one is pretty much a copy of Bononcini's...

    • @donnaalfa1084
      @donnaalfa1084 2 роки тому

      @@robertocarvalhodemagalhaes3648 No, I don't think so. Part of the melody returns in the Handel version, but for me both arias have a quality of their own. But the Bononcini aria is more tender, fragile, whereas Handel is a bit more solemn. Anyway, I like them both, but for different reasons.

    • @robertocarvalhodemagalhaes3648
      @robertocarvalhodemagalhaes3648 2 роки тому

      @@donnaalfa1084 Although Haendel's has a different arrangement and some variations on Bononcini's, it's nevertheless a copy. You can spin it as much as you want, but this is the reality. I didn't say I don't like Haendel's version and nor that they were identical. Copies - in music as in painting - are not necessarily identical to the original. Replicas are.

      Geralmente são peças religiosas o que se encontra do barroco brasileiro, especialmente de compositores mineiros como José Joaquim Emerico Lobo de Mesquita, Francisco Gomes da Rocha, etc. Gosto muito da Novena de Nossa Senhora do Pilar.
